  4. Mr Smithy Allentown to NYC is around 100 miles so less than 2 hours drive, in USA terms it is next door................ .like i say the guy i bought the 002 record from appeared quite knowledgable about this release and definitely said it was a local release. My guess is that Ike was local to Allentown but the records where recorded / pressed in New York.... Gaz
  5. . Hi Fellas i have GRAJON - 002 - THE EXCELS FEATURING ISAIAH (IKE) JOHNSON -- JUST ANOTHER NAME / LAST LETTER J - 002 & L - 002 The label design is identical to the one above but orange. i got it in the States around 90/91 from Allentown, Pennsylavania...and i remember the guy i bought it off told me that it was limited press and that the group were local to the Allentown area...... i did have two copies and mustve sold one, either to one of my mates or at the Wilton or some other nighter.. (did you get it Andy?). The 'just another name 'side is pretty good mid to uptempo,,better sounding than the one above imo but wouldnt cut the mustard at northern venues. the flip 'last letter' is a Wilson Pickett-ish vietnam mid paced ballad and also pretty good. My scanner is knackered at the moment but i could upload a photo and a soundfile later this week if anyone is really interested Dont know where this release stands with Abtone?...the plot thickens....... hope this info helps you Mr Smithy. Gaz .

  13. Lots and lots of interest on this, normally wouldnt let a record of this quality go but needs must for another purchase....To be honest ive had this for a good 20 years and never played the "CYW" side until i saw it on a playlist a year or so ago. Do'h Paypal will be ok for all the European enquiries, registered cash is the only other payment option im afraid. Like i say i'll let it go till Sunday night and send the winner the record (postal strike pending) Monday morning. Biddings over 250 already before i get any more 75/80 bids. Gaz
  14. . Oh so rare and in-demand VOLT 4052 - Charlene & The Soul Serenaders - Can you Win / Love Changes In great shape, a little label wear on both sides, vinyl Ex on "can you win" side, a couple of slight surface scuffs that dont affect play at all, it plays perfectly. there are a few deeper scuffs on the "love changes" side but still plays great. Not sure what to ask on this so sensible offers by PM please, best offer by late Sunday night wins it.. Cheers Gaz
  15. . Thats right, The Professionals on Action Pac (no relation to the Detroit group) were originally The Hollywood Saxons i believe....Action Pac is a pink label, West Coast (LA i would imagine) Both records are incredible soulful group harmony tunes and rare as well, ive been looking for a copy of the Professionals for 20 odd years and seen it only once on Ebay and once on a Lew Stanley list (outbid both times) Good luck on finding the H S's Nev mate, great record. Gaz .

  23. How about "love stormy weather" ? rare as hell at one point, seen quite a few go through ebay over the years reasonably cheap?? Wasnt Sy Hightower classed as mega rare in the old Thorne days? now you can get one for the price of 2 Ruby Andrews'!!
  24. Youre right Tommo, there is a feint but definite frankford/wayne stamp on the "love has to grow" side and a familiar machine stamped triangle...so i guess its a genuine US release...phew. Didnt fancy an 'islands' release (not sure what one is to be honest) Strange though that the (arguably) rarest record on the label is in a different format to the rest...anyone got an issue of this on styrene? Gaz
  25. Another query related to this.... Ive got Lets love / Love has to grow on a Silver Blue issue and its on thinnish flexible vinyl with the grip marks around the label (which seems more akin to a UK release)..its always bugged me that it looks a bit iffy somehow Ive got virtually the whole Silver Blue label and every other release is on styrene (issues and promos) Has anyone else noticed this? is there an explanation? I found it in the States so it cant be iffy surely...........can it? Gaz
