Surely it's all pop at the end of the day , the vast majority weren't intentionally produced for the Northern Soul Scene, just that we thought otherwise , and created a scene playing a mix of musical types stitching it together and calling it Northern Soul. There is no denying that some of them if played in the public arena at their time of release would surely have made the charts , I'm not talking of the tailor made shit , live bands playing Northern Soul Classics in 2022 just goes to show just how good this music is , I bet most if not all of the audience retired from the scene years ago , or on their Butlins " Motown" weekend in between the bingo , We had an holiday in Majorca Monday ,The Tops , Tuesday ,The Platters ,Washed Ashore ,With This Ring ,Sweet Sweet Lovin , dancefloor packed , didn't look like a soulie in the house , neither at The Tops but still the same reaction we skipped The Drifters on later in the week , But my original point was it's still all pop music not exclusively for the Northern Scene so can't be a bad thing if it's keeping some musicians in work , and I bet they do weddings too , just like Mr Parrish

Funnily enough , just been reading that Al Bell of the Stax record label says the Monophonics are one of the best live soul bands he ever saw , which is a great recommendation to have on your CV . -

Have just tried pre ordering from Laterna records the cd album and only got an apology regarding unable to post to the UK at this moment in time but can download for around £7. From another outlet , will just have to wait I suppose -
It's what's in the groove that counts...or is it?
Happy Feet replied to Chalky's topic in All About the SOUL
As you say Chalky , the sound is now unimportant ,the value takes precedence , and if released in 2022 say 300 copies , in 5 yrs time it may be 50 copies , in 10 yrs 25 copies but will there be anyone alive who wants them ? , Most records if reissued have slightly different features on the label a slightly lower teardrop on the Penrose label for instance , but why don't the companies involved just release more in the 1st place, why have only 350 or 500 pressed in this day and age , doesn't make sense , and they can't be making a living from these limited releases , the profit is only from resales , I actually contacted the company who released Carmy Love and sent them the discogs page showing it for sale at 120 euros , not interested and definitely no chance of a repress , what do these artists do between releases go busking ? Maybe just thinking aloud , it's time for these companies to grow a pair and have confidence in the product , maybe this is the cause of so many pre orders so they can gauge the possible sales , I know and you know if advertised as limited , it will sell out even if it's piss poor, and to be honest a lot of great tunes worth half as much and deemed not worthy with only 1 issue , greed nothing more , as for OVO etc DJing surely is about entertaining not the same old sounds but 20 times the cost , still new tunes available from the likes of Juno records ie Oliver James ,One And Only , yellow vinyl for £6.50 + P+P , Rarity over quality , surely that's not what the Northern Soul scene was built on ,yes play something new and eventually everybody can get a copy ,if enough issued ,cover ups where apparently to prevent bootlegging , surely we are all entitled to a copy and then hopefully the artists and all involved will be more enthusiastic to make more new exciting tunes , I personally think that cover ups encouraged bootlegging and helped to rip off the artists etc involved , Frank Wilson sold 10k copies as Eddie Foster it's a wonder when finally issued it sold any at the time . I'm not saying exclusives should be shunned but surely no tune was made for only one pair of ears , and as you say , if demand is there press more it's still the same master and sounds the same , it's the promos of well known tunes reissued for possibly the 5th time that puzzle me . -
Somebody , must have still a copy of Blues & Soul which would have posted the Pre Anniversary Alnighter, event that flopped , I was still a regular Saturday night supporter , but living and working in Llandudno at the time , and used to make the pilgrimage via Crewe , and if early enough get off the train and spend an hour or so at a pub close to Crewe Station , where they actually held a Northern night and then onto Wigan with quite an entourage of fellow soulies , but that was the regular Saturday night , not the one mentioned earlier that was cancelled before it really got going, would be interesting to find out if anyone turned up to find it closed , The early session in Crewe I'm pretty sure was still going during the Colwyn Bay Alnighter years , same thing get off at Crewe into the Pub , medication, then back onto a packed out carriage cassette player blasting out the latest floorfiller and and a good night had by all ,at the Casino . I seem to remember at the time Dave Evison , leaping off the stage between introducing records and then climbing back up in time to introduce the next one, Sammy Davies Jnr , then followed by Eddie Parker , he earned his fee not easy at some venues with out steps onto the stage , I was at the doomed Alnighter in Colwyn Bay when the doormen had allowed in a few of the local piss heads in and it all kicked off , big style , tables , chairs ,glasses ok if your up for it , but most weren't.

Found it , currently pre order cd at the moment , From the fourth coming , Truth & Soul album cd , tracks that stand out depending on personal preference, Better. Days Go By, Trust, Better Days ,a definite Northern floor filler, Yeah Yeah Yeah another storming track made for the dance floor , Just found it on Spotify , not one I regularly use , but glad I did .. Just hope the last two make it to a 45 release . -
Help required searched all over the net , usual suspects etc . Tonight on 6 music Stuart Maconie is sitting in for Craig Charles and 2nd tune up was Michelle David & The True-Tones, Better Days , can not find any info or the record anywhere , great tune , is it or has it been released ?

Having read all comments in this topic , had most of The Ethics releases at some time over the last 48 hrs ,and still have a few and the CD album , if the track had been released at the time as the others where ,would it be worth any thing at all , it's nowhere near as good as most of the others , ok now with "Low rider " being a relatively new collective style of the soul genre ,if a 1k or so copies where in circulation a £15 tune , is it just the fact it's rarity value and not a great tune , would make it a collectable item if any at all had been released ? , was there even an acetate , just contemplating ,, This it not a dig at Low rider by the way I do have a vast and varied collection and most only have to flipped .

Happy Feet replied to Dave Pinch's topic in Record Sales
Hi Dave have pm'd -
That's right Chalky , backed with Marvin Gaye ,Love Starved etc ,and have seen it on a white Tamla two globes design boot knocking around on eBay
-
Yes that's right ,but it had its own entrance from the street at the rear of the main building , not forgetting it was a separately run business and nothing to do with the Main room Alnighters , until 21st September 1974 as a one off overflow room due to the demand for tickets , and to alleviate the mass crush in the main room ,I can tell you it was very full , hot and no room on the dance floor and still people on the street outside trying to get in, things could have easily have got out of hand Mike Walker RIP , I don't know how he pulled it off because it was Gerry Marshalls newly refurbished "baby " and we weren't going to get in , we did and the rest is history so they say . If any one hasn't yet got their hands on a copy of Steve Whittles The Inside Story Of Mr Ms ,a fascinating look back at one of the most interesting eras of Northern Soul history warts and all
-
Yes it did ,at least 5djs at least 3 soulies and 15 mins in Mike Walker came in arms waving in the air shouting " turn it off turn it off ,I told you it wasn't going to work " and immediately the event was called to a halt ,, and the 3 off us where kicked out into the streets at the rear entrance into the September morning which was the main entrance to Mr Ms , I at the time was living ,working in Llandudno but had planned to do both nighters as had a week end free If memory serves me correctly Kenny Spence , Keith Minshull , Richard Searling ,possibly Dave Evison not sure of the others but Ms stage was full , people might think I'm mad but it did happen and maybe some one still alive can possibly verify it .I know one of the lads was local to Wigan but pretty sure the other lad like me had arrived by train .

Being kicked out at 12:15 am on a Friday night oldies Alnighter in Mr Ms because only 3 soulies and at least 5 djs turned up , the Friday before the 3rd anniversary was very strange when your off your head with nowhere to go and miles from home , and just had to wait 24hrs to do it all again , At least we got our entrance fee back , and yes Wigan like most places in the 70s spooky in the dark
-
Very Brazilian , looks like a festival going on there , great artwork , this is what we want lol
