Geoff Waddington ft Tameka Jackson - This Is Love
Happy Feet commented on Mike's article in News Archives
Love it , and just played through all the others , love them all is it an on going project with an album vinyl or cd , or individual releases ? -
Having only joined Soul Source during the Pandemic as a means of keeping in touch and listening to the excellent BVAN , apart from JM's and Tim Browns auction site , as there ever been a soul only sales auction, or buy now etc , website , I'm only asking because there as to be a solution to evilbay , it never gets a good revue , personally I've bought a lot and in most cases have been very happy with the results , but it sounds like the sellers suffer . I know there are lots of individual websites that cater for the soul followers , but a site that runs like evilbay is surely only interested in the amount of percentage they can make on each sale Inc extras , so why is it still so popular as an outlet and yet hated so much , apart from discogs , what else is there ?

Yes ,last year April 2021 , Hipshakin 7" , Rhythm "n" soul a couple on eBay , not sure if Legit but did buy one when issued and sounds and looks ok , to be honest a few good releases on the label but I have no idea on legality hope they are good looking with matching sleeves etc

It may have something to do with the Soul Police , the recent Lou Pride version of I'm Comin Home has been available on cd album for the best part of 20 yrs , and a hell of a lot of tracks on Kent for instance cd only , a change of mentality which will never happen and is a completely and understandable reason when some DJ has spent a months wages on one OVO, but as you say with new releases in a modern age a lot of tunes are ignored , In the old days loads of tunes played on EMI disc made to look like Acetates at most venues and big named djs got away with it . Good news though check out the sales section re the Kim Tibbs , regarding downloads can't see the Soul Police going for that one , more for the MP3 player if still in fashion lol .

Back to the thread , still buying everything new that makes my feet happy , oldies within my budget , lots of UK releases old and new , albums instead of expensive 45s and the odd cd , I'd say about 40 items a month. My wife says you don't need anymore records but she doesn't get it , sold up early 90s to pay for house restoration, since then , have had to build an extension to house them , don't know why can't explain it must be some sort of addiction , off now to the man cave ' Sunday Night Is Soul Night ' and to play all this week's buys and the odd beer or three cheers

Limited releases, immediately attracts the sharks , drop the word Limited and it just becomes first come first served , and don't mention numbers until they're all sold , it's a limited market anyway so why should someone who had nothing to do with the making of the record make more by buying a few copies. Promos of old classics released again and again don't get that either .
-
Let's hope they release enough copies , is it cd or vinyl ?
-
Can someone please explain why when a new release , say 300 copies sells out, can a re run not be planned if successful ? It wouldn't be the first time and would allow the artists etc to make a living , surely music is for sharing not exclusivity. The Jon Allen & Kim Tibbs both limited but also very good tunes and would surely sell another 300 copies , these are new tunes and not releases that have been issued up to 4 times in the past ,I have Melba Moore , The Magic Touch on 3 labels with 3 different b sides and I wouldn't be surprised if available on more . Somebody involved with the marketing of these new tunes must surely know the difference between a limited 300 or 500 , confused I am .

Hearing Unexpected Music In Unexpected Places!
Happy Feet replied to Tony Turner's topic in All About the SOUL
Kidderminster Tesco's , actually saw a young guy dancing in the ailes next to the deli last week ,Saturday evening , to Dusty Springfield, Am I The Same Girl , quite often a good tune played in there , and a few years back just before we where going through the channel tunnel the morning of the earthquake, Cornelius Brothers &Sister Rose ,Too Late To Turn Back Now , played during breakfast in the restaurant of the Ashford International Hotel , then we heard about the earthquake and was told due to the design of the tunnel all was okay , still here lol -
Have pm'd

Have seen this kind of thing cropping up from time to time , even in Cold Feet , maybe the producers think it's trendy , but surely Old Skool , would be more appropriate even House it just doesn't go with the characters portrayed within the story lines .

Back in 82 , Clarkies list mail order no internet , Limitations Lonely etc £8. Natural Four I Thought etc £8.Nowadays Jon Allen and the Skinner Bros £12. a week later £75 plus, it's now becoming a numbers market and definitely not what's in the grooves market , a scene that was once driven by the dance floor reaction maybe is taking a deferent route , I remember a similar conversation back in the early 80s ,would these records stand the test of time ,, answer yes But surely nowadays there has to be less collectors , so prices should be more reasonable,, And the amount of reissues of ordinary and cheap original easily available vinyl ,doesn't make sense either ,, I don't think and never have , that the rare soul scene is any different from any other money making market when full of entrepreneurs , who just want to take advantage of a market when numbers are scarce or are they ???

Restoration of old wooden box, DIY project , any others
Happy Feet replied to Happy Feet's topic in Freebasing
Very carefully individually cut out from old mags , fanzines , etc that I'd purchased over the years some had twice and some scanned , each one stuck on individually with clear PVA ,then 5 coats of clear PVA to seal , the base sanded waxed and polished, the felt was from an old poker set , again from a boot sale , and the legs saved from a trip to the tip , the labels are deliberately turned to face each direction of the box/table so can be seen from all directions , even the carpet adhesive to fix the felt was a freebie , I swapped my wife for the handle and hooks , she wants them for a project she's got on the go , separate workshops , it's the only solution lol -
Had this old box , bought on a car boot back in late 80s , thought possibly military or tool box .has been used to store tools and vinyl , but was on the verge of chucking in out , and then I saw one of my neighbours loading up for a trip to the tip and asked him I could take the legs off a naff looking glass coffee table. So this is the result and now a very useful beer/ bar table in the man cave , and going to store spare sleeves in it , top has been PVA'd so it is beer proof , The photos not quite come out in the correct order , but from start to the final action shot about 4 days work (whilst recovering from COVID ) and looks great in the man cave too , has anyone else any good ideas , upcycling etc

First run out for Taw Valley on the Severn Valley Railway from Bridgnorth to Kidderminster , in her new livery of purple to celebrate the Queen's 70th anniversary , although not yet carrying the Elizabeth 2 name plates , still looked spectacular as she passed the House ,

Hi Paul -S , sorry my referral to Once Upon A Time in Wigan , wasn't to determine the fact it was live or soundtrack but mainly the fact it was a piece of work ,I'm sure aimed at the followers of the scene through the ages , correct me if not , and I thoroughly enjoyed the production when I saw it at the Coventry Belgrade. ,What I was making the point of was that in Theatre land they have been enjoying this particular style of music and rightly so and to full houses , and the audience didn't attend because it was labelled as anything more than nostalgia , and a good nights entertainment ok maybe Motown , Shirelles , Wilson Pickett etc , but I was making the point not to confuse and call it the Northern Soul Scene .
-
This sort of thing has been going on for a hell of a long time especially in the Theatre , long before even Once Upon A Time In Wigan ,,. In the Midnight hour , With Geno Washington , doing Wilson Pickett , The Carole King story I forget the title but great theatre , The Motown stories etc all great bands and singers forget how many I've been to at Coventry Belgrade theatre but an excellent nights entertainment and always packed out long live nostalgia , take it for what it is wether play or live band a night of live entertainment , not to be confused with the Northern Soul scene we all love and wanted to keep it an underground secret til that fateful night at the Casino .
