  2. I'm pretty sure our European members here on Source will have the answer .
  3. Hi Rick, As you say great dancer , but possibly very big on the Popcorn scene , hence the European reissue etc .
  4. We here in the midlands ( although I am a Northerner who married a midlander ) have always gone for the Xmas traditional Roast Turkey , with all of the trimmings inc. roast potatoes & parsnips , sprouts , carrots etc , bread sauce the lot , but could I get the kids to eat Xmas pudding never , so then ( I think I created it because at the time 25 yrs ago I'd never come across or scene a recipe for it ) The Xmas pudding creme brulee , now it's a must have and never any leftovers in our house, even the Grandkids love it too.
  5. I totally agree , lots of the big venues djs would break a record on the dance floor , get a copy made Emidisc usually and sell the original for a profit , the dance floor was still full and nobody cared , because most of the attendees where fuelled up and just wanted to dance , and enjoy themselves .
  6. Just watched part 1, didn't expect to hear " The Carstairs, It really Hurts Me Girl " and interesting the fact that the first tune that was classed as the first real disco record was " Harold Melvin & The Blues Notes , The Love I Lost " ,thanks for the heads up Davemac3 , everydays a school day as the saying goes .
  7. Don't think as yet had a mention , flipped it tonight , The Accents , New Girl &
  8. Was looky enough to see this guy performing in Rhyl about 75ish . Wayne Fontana ,we popped over for the night like you used to in those days from Blackpool , Bob Blackwood , Howard Wilson , Rob Laird ,Tony etc , in What was then the vehicle to own , a real cruiser , A Toyota Crown Custom , and was treated to a wonderful set of blue eyed soul , this tune amongst so many soul classics stood out like no other , and what a tune , I was only 17teen at the time but what a lasting impression,,,,,
  9. How can we possibly follow that , brilliant, here we go stay on the dance floor , keep them mince pies warm ! Wishing you all a Merry Xmas & a Happy New Year .
  10. Hi Rod pm sent
  11. Here's another 2 that I'm lucky to have in my collection, both on UK white label promos , Ike & Tina Turner , Somebody ( Somewhere) Needs You , Warner bros . Jimmy James & The Vagabonds , This Heart O Mine , Piccadilly
  12. Hi Mal , Have Pmd Cheers Dave
  13. If you where there at the Casino when this was packing the floor , and then released on a Disco Demand 45 , what a tune so atmospheric and still no version better Ila Van , Can't Help Loving That Man Of Mine , check out the record credits they go all the way back to 1928 , Helen Morgan , from the musical "Showboat " written by Oscar Hammerstein & Jerome Kern , a little bit Doctor Who don't you think , imagine if they had a time machine , " Why are all these kids up so late , wide awake and dancing shouldn't they be at home in bed " lol
  14. Nobody has yet mentioned any instrumentals , so here's one and by far the superior version,, Eddie Bishop ,Call Me , written by Tony Hatch , first sung by Petula Clark , and then probably Tony Hatch and his good lady Jackie Trent .
  15. " Till There Was You " by the Beatles was also a cover version of an old 1950 recording by Meredith Willson & his Orchestra & Eileen Wilson ( on vocals ) titled " Till I Met You , on Decca , the only difference is the wording . But can't find the other , unreleased shrine recording " I Wanna Hold Your Hand " , I know people might squirm but there have been quite a few of the Beatles ( Lennon & McCartney) tunes covered my favourite is, JJ Barnes , Day Tripper
  16. Are we talking here The Beatles songs ?
  17. In memory of the very sad news and the recent loss of our Soul Brother Andy Bellwood RIP , and his terrific work at Last Bastion , I'm pretty sure he would have nominated this version , a modern day release of the highest order of a great soul classic .
  18. Another 1 very successful, yes we the older crowd will have heard it a 1000 times but have the younger crowd ever flipped it , The Supremes Baby Love / Ask any Girl , would have loved to be there the first time this was played , perhaps if never released at the time , could now be in one of those box sets .
  19. Another, always hit the dancefloor when this one was played at the Casino , Norman Whitfield penned , The Van Dykes ,Save My Love For A Rainy Day , more dancefloor reaction than the original version could ever receive, love it
  20. Slightly off the music , but did see a documentary on Dave Clarke all about his successful career and his property portfolio in the states , a very popular guy following his musical achievements worth a watch .
  21. There's been some very popular topics over the last few weeks , and because it's the season to be merry , have searched and no doubt someone will find it's been done before , but I can't . So what's your favourite cover version of a Classic , Northern, modern , etc , that's at the top of your soulful list , This is mine , what's yours ?
  22. Classic , Stanley Mitchell Get It Baby , Quit Twisting My Arm .Dynamo Philip Mitchell , I'm Gonna Build California From All Over The World , & this one all always finds it's way to the turntable .
  23. Always where , Emidisc springs to mind , but a few still sold these days as Acetates and probably still played as such . Carvers, bootlegs to play in the comfort of your own , still bootlegs , may as well play them on any format cd etc, as most of the expensive ones have been released at some time and hopefully royalties paid ,,,
  24. Just finished , Trumpet by Jackie Kay , about a Jazz Trumpet player called Joss Moody , would make a brilliant movie ,,, I'm saying no more wouldn't want to spoil it for anybody , good bedtime read
  25. Although this one when it was played at the WC sounded unbelievable at the time , fresh of the press , new release, in that kind of atmosphere, I know it was first spun at the Blackpool Mecca, but it didn't have that Alnighter vibe -
