  1. I think under the circumstances, an underground scene which it very much was upto 76 , if a DJ played a record that had a dancefloor appeal you had a choice , dance or wait for the next one . We didn't have the tools or knowledge at the time to consider Soul or not , it was more about the dancefloor, lots of blue eyed soul too many to list here now Bobby Goldboro for one , & Paul Anka , I Can't Help Loving You , albeit covered up , but yes it was a drug fuelled scene , full of kids , lead by older mentors , " this was played at the Torch , Wheel , Catacombs, VaVa's , the Mecca etc but every week we travelled to where ever ,to packed out All nighters more for the buzz than the odd shite record . And the gear wasn't soooooo much better back in the day , unless you had a good supplier, lots of dodgy dealers around at the time , best to source your own .
  2. https://soulbot.uk/wayne-gibson.htm/ Also numerous memories on YouTube claim it to be earlier , I heard it played at the Casino to , to a packed dancefloor was very popular , also featured on Crackerjack ,check out the link .
  3. That's exactly why it's now being debated , when it was first spun probably the Torch or Twisted Wheel , it was probably a UK based label scene , they would not have had the wealth of US labeled sounds , that followed. At the time it was also a scene in infantsy, & records where played for a week or two then dropped, by the time of the Casino most of these type of sounds where oldies , & suddenly got a second lease of life & reissued for one reason or another. Fortunately we're still going strong , & as was said by a prominent promoter / DJ , " We've Separated The Wheat From The Chaff" & so the scene goes on , so we don't have to play this kind of tune anymore , unless requested, still has plenty of likes from people who where there at the time on YouTube , personally would like to hear an instrumental of it
  4. Very very sad news , although I haven't seen him for years I was always aware through the media , just how much he was loved & appreciated on the scene , RIP Ted condolences to family & friends.
  5. Hi Xss, Have pmd
  6. B- side , Up On Top Now , + Instrumental with a bit of Sax , then yes definitely a worthy release .
  7. Controversial ,,,, why ? When there is a finished , polished , totally without any doubt a version that is perfect , available already . Sorry Rob , I don't see the need .
  8. It was never in doubt the sellers status , it was only the fact that buyers are buying Emidiscs wether djs or not that is why I mentioned it . So to the sales of carvers and disguising them that's all .
  9. So do they still have their online sales shop of previously owned vinyl ?
  10. Just had a quick search for MD records , personally bought a few records from their sales "shop" over the last few years , and their excellent MD records label , but now it only seems selling from their own label via Bandcamp , when did that happen?
  11. Still a bootleg Upcycling an Acetate surely with a hand made paper label ?
  12. 2 x weeks ago a Temptones Emidisc played by a prominent Dj BITD was auctioned on ebay with a few others , it fetched over £50 . so it's must be still going on , plus boots with stuck on original or Acetate labels always popping up for sale , got to be from Djs . Surely nobody is doing it just to play at home ?
  13. Yes , but I'm not talking about cuts made & distributed , I'm talking of individual djs who did it on a regular basis , selling on the original & then playing Emidiscs cut to fool the audience/ dance floor , or who just played Emidiscs , made to look like Acetates . Pre Internet, yes a lot of records where thought to be scarce .
  14. I find this kind of topic infuriating why ? From the Halcyon days of the Casino ( I picked this one in particular because it was rife ) Stafford (not as bad but it did happen) 100 Club ( 80s it did happen) Lots of Djs would play a record , when it took off , sell it and just before have an Emidisc. cut and play it untill it was booted . There was quite a few Emidiscs cut and made to look like Acetates , nobody batted an eyelid & the only thing that mattered was dance floor reaction. Nowadays it seems that the so called Soul Police , insist a record is only played if it is played on the first possible release . That would be a test pressing or promo surely . None of this , stock copy , first issue bollocks , that is surely one day going to finish off the scene because the younger generation have no chance of ever owning an original copy in any format unless , they remortgage ( if they can afford a mortgage in the 1st place ) so if not an Acetate , no record can be an original ????
  15. The Junior Scaife , Nobody Gets My Love , is very good & I know I've said this before Jalen definitely sounds more like Donnie Elbert than Jalen .
  16. Are you asking regarding this particular record or in general, lots over the years have the same label both sides , & quite a few back to front , both labels wrong .
  17. "The Soul Source Finding Lost Souls Bureau" never fails , great work guys
  18. Have seen it on discogs for much more , but that doesn't mean it's worth £300 + , I think in today's market , Promo it's probably near the mark , is it currently getting spins again ??
  19. Got mine today , another superb release by Soul Direction , thanks Kitch
  20. The crazy world of Northern Soul , could there possibly be a better take still in the can ? Doubtful
  21. I'm sure somebody on here said that Kent only reissue cheap records , Tommy Tate £5K+ was it meant as tongue in cheek , wonderful record .
  22. Since my last visit to this topic , due to bladder issues I have had a PSA test , to rule out Prostate issues , & the result 1.1 , Diagnosis a constricted Bladder , more medication & further tests on my Kidneys , the relief is unmeasurable . I still have Colitis following Covid in 21, add to that Diverticulitis in 24 & an annual Nerve Blocker injected into the base of my spine plus 3 types of meds for neurological pain daily . The Bladder issue the Doctor said was more than likely a side issue to the Colitis . My wife says "you don't know how lucky you are " after reading your story Mick & all the other guys affected my Prostate Cancer , I now know what she means.
  23. Hi Larry , he walked out with is ego in a wheelbarrow lol
