  1. Hi all, happy Friday! I've been sat on an idea for a little while and wanted to get people's thoughts on something like this - Northern Soul inspired football shirts. I'm sure some of you will be familiar with Bands FC (if not, check them out) and I wondered how achievable it would be to create something similar that appeals to the NS community. The idea would be that the shirt design itself would be in a similar design to the label, so blue and white strips for Fairmount, plain black with silver trim for Tamla Motown etc. As an addition, the 'away' kit would be in the colours of the promo label, so the Tamla Motown would have the green and white colouring. The crest would be the NS logo and the primary shirt sponsor on the front would be the label logo itself. I imagine there is all kind of copyright issues with what I'm suggesting, so at the moment it's just a germ of an idea, just thought it would be interesting to start the discussion. I've put together some VERY rough ideas using a free kit designer, see attached. Feel free to list which labels you'd want to see as well, for some inspiration...
  2. Never seen that Okeh sleeve before, but that is glorious! Something about that colour!
  3. For some reason, I'm a sucker for the labels and/or sleeves that have the faces of the artists. The Aladdin is a great example! Also like the James Brown King label. Probably a whole other thread there though...
  4. The King and Dot ones are so good! I really like that alternative King logo, shame that didn't make it into any actual labels (I assume?)
  5. I think it must be the colour of the Stateside one, like that one too! Feel like the white box at the bottom could be nicer though.
  6. Yeah that's a beauty! Love that one too!
  7. Hi all! I, like many of you I'm sure, prefer some company sleeves over others. Some of them are works of art in their design or simplicity! Wondering what everyone elses favourite company sleeves are? Mine are attached!
  8. Hey folks! Just wondering if there's anyone here that has had experience with putting out reissues on a label that would be happy to have a phone call or Zoom chat to answer some questions I have? I'm looking at the possibility of starting a very small scale reissue label for some bits and pieces, Northern and otherwise, so would appreciate the chance to bounce some ideas off someone that has experienced it themselves. Thanks a lot! James
  9. Where do you tend to fly in to? Assuming you hire a car to get around to all the shops?
  10. Thanks for everyone's thoughts on this, appreciate it! Seems like there aren't any charges for bringing them in which is good, been stung a few times with customs etc. With a bit of planning it may well work, not this year though...
  11. Hey all, looking to get people's thoughts, opinions and experiences of bringing home records from abroad, more specifically from the US to the UK. Everyone here is well aware of the Ian Levine haul stories but just wondering whether anything like this is even remotely achievable nowadays with all the airport checks, scans, baggage limits etc. I'm not sure on the legalities of bringing home suitcases full of records, whether there are additional taxes to pay or anything like that. Just wanted to see whether people here have tried it and whether a trip to the States would be worth it, purely to grab a bunch of records for much cheaper compared to UK sellers. Any thoughts appreciated! James
  12. I know this isn't the typical fare for this forum but saw a post from a few years ago of someone selling their rare boogie tunes and thought I'd give it a shot! Looking for boogie and rare disco from around 1979 - 1984. Let me know what you got! Thanks!
