  1. Beautiful looking shark - Blues. They used to fish for them out of Looe, as they are more an open water species (I think) back in the day. There were also plenty of Mako and Thresher Sharks around UK waters then iirc.
  2. We were in Newquay last week and took this pic down at the harbour of a rainbow that lasted about 10 seconds.
  3. I started going in 1978 at age 14. If I close my eyes and remember, it's so vivid. Sunday morning was always strange, going out into daylight with nobody else about..... Saturday night chip wrappers blowing about and the occasional milkman, with some newly discovered tune going round in your head. Very melancholic. Incredible memories. We were very fortunate indeed and its a lifelong addiction.
  4. Really interesting article and great detective work. Note: I had forgotten about Bok to Bach I bet its about 40 years since I last heard it!
  5. I am not at all surprised. The thing is, there are so many people in the world nowadays with spectacular levels of wealth. From footballers to oligarchs to tech wonderkids to property tycoons......etc. They are now surprisingly common and the Internet makes the world into a global village. And even if they are not into soul music, the bragging rights of owning the worlds most expensive single for a mere £125k would be a bit of fun for them. And once the £100k Frank Wilson sale made global news (I read it in The Times) its open season. All imo. Sad but true.
  6. Apologies for my extremely limited knowledge on current vinyl prices (not collected for decades).... but for a lot of other collectibles (antiques, watches etc) a high profile sale like this can bring the spotlight onto the sector and raise prices generally. A rising tide lifts all boats as they say.
  7. Sounds like it's in safe hands to me. Huge sum of money - but bought for all the right reasons. Fortunately he can afford it and sees himself as its custodian. The fact he has already been offered more for it from various sources.....
  8. I wish to buy 2 copies please. One for my brother Tony (which I will read as well) and one for donation to someone (anyone) on here who loves the music and would like to own it - but may just be struggling to justify the purchase in the current financial climate.
  9. Ha ha excellent. My favourite tune for many years when it was released. Certainly an artist who hasn't forgotten the lyrics, like many of them have.
  10. Worst case is a new crystal, which are relatively cheap. Is it due a service? It would be replaced then. If its oil on the outside it may steam off, with great care! Updated after some reserach; Apparently the service crystals are the same as the new ones nowadays complete with laser etched crown at 6. The LEC should also indicate the anti reflective state of the crystal. Source: https://www.watchwallpapers.com/laserlogo.htm
  11. Interesting watch. Never seen one before. A bit like looking where the sun is in the sky to give the 'about' time. The Oris Deco is v nice too. How old was it?
  12. Just a side issue on a grail watch. Like a lot of other people, I would love a (completely unobtainable to me in every way) Patek Phillipe Nautilus in blue. Watchfinder have currently got a few in stock. Its worth checking out the asking price v RRP..... for a second hand watch which needs expensive and lengthy regular servicing https://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Patek Philippe/Nautilus/5711/1A-010/8096/item/159904?searchId=64a5d387-7fb8-4e5c-be6f-3579fb5be09e&rank=16 One of these on board a Riva speedboat for me please, if any (as yet unknown) rich relatives want to treat me.
  13. I believe the Tudor 'Blue Bay' arrived in a single batch at dealers and sold out straight away as its the only new Tudor release this year. Next batch not expected till autumn - hence the very much engineered demand. Same happened when they released the BB58 and the (date malfunction special!) GMT in recent years. Give it a while and they will likely be obtainable at a dealers at retail is my guess.
  14. Been a constant in my top 3 all time favourites for many many years. It's quite unique in a way. Even though it just chugs along, the more you listen to it, the better it gets - to my ears.
  15. Both nice purchases there.... I actually prefer that Tag to the new Rolex Sub LV (Hulk). I had an original LV from 2003 that got nicked in an armed robbery in 2007. In the meantime it has become exceedingly sought after (Y serial / Flat 4) and would be north of £20k now. And is the strap on that Brietling as comfortable as it looks?
  16. Hi Rob Welcome! Long time lurker and recent Joiner myself (a few posts back). Whereabouts in Portugal are you? We are frequent visitors there (Cascais).
  17. Thanks for the replies on the mystery bird photo. I will snap a pic of something on the same bit of fence for scale, as it did seem a lot bigger than even an adult blackbird. Concensus does seem to be blackbird though.
  18. It was big though. Much bigger than an adult blackbird. I suppose it could have very fluffed up feathers if it was a juvenile?
  19. Sorry, poor quality photo. Snapped it a while back as it was a strange looking bird. Quite big, even though it looks young? Just wondering if any of the bird experts on here can tell me what it is....?
  20. I certainly appreciate all the nature/wildlife photos. I am learning a lot.... Thankyou.
  21. Not sure about other birds named after their song call. But since Radcliffe & Maconie did a bit on R6 a few years back, I know when I hear the following calls; Wood Pigeon - 'my toe hurts Betty' Dove? - 'U-ni-ted' being sung by a rather disgruntled football supporter.
  22. Are they laughing gas cannisters that the kids have discarded?
  23. Thanks Mike. On reflection, it may well be on here where I originally saw it.
  24. Apologies if this has been posted before - I am new here. Also hope it's posted in the right section? Always liked the tune.....then found the vid on YT. I had assumed they were a black soul group. Apparently very not! This is golden....
  25. Behind the Coop on Rush Green Rd....coming in from Partington. It's very discrete (for obvious reasons). https://www.prestigetimeservices.co.uk/rolex-accredited/
