  1. OK, following on from the boot vs original pressing debate, imagine you were given £500 to spend in two weeks, to play a half hour slot - and impress (either yourself or others)!!! All original pressings ........ What would we see on the decks. Never mind the prices during the 70's, you're playing a week on Friday PS. I work overtime to buy that original I've been hunting.
  2. This certainly wasn't an anti Wigan thread or a debate about the final niters. We were just trying to clear up which was the last Motown song played - I wondered whether members of the forum would differenciate between the Motown labels etc (including British). I only managed to attend twice because of my age at the time but remember the overwhelming feelings and amazement at the place. Cheers.
  3. I'm sure this has been asked before but can anyone settle an argument between a few of us at our club. I wasn't there so can't answer it but .... What was the last Motown record ever played at Wigan Casino? We had the usual banter about what is considered as a Motown track i.e. Soul, Tamla, Tamla Motown etc but have still not come up with an answer. Some say Do I love You, I thought it was Ghost in My House? Cheers for what may be a much asked question.
  4. Wow, they are going like hot cakes!!!! Jim
  5. Just a quickie really, does anyone know if the 2-CD Cellarful of Motown was released anywhere on vinyl and if so where. Much appreciated! To be honest, I'm trying to find "A Weakspot In My Heart" by the Isleys Cheers - Jim
  6. I did quite a few scooter do's and rallies before my first Northern Night proper. I felt fairly confident going on for the first time but Mr Jack Daniels managed to help me out in that respect - 1st big mistake. I had never seen anything but a full floor so had no real worries. 2nd big mistake. As the floor emptied, I decided on persistence in the hope that the crowd would come around to my way of thinking - 3rd big mistake!! Made a few more mistakes on the way and continue to do so (on a regular basis) but in general terms I do try and keep current within my small budget and play stuff that I hope the majority will enjoy and dance to. No wonder I'm bald!!!
  7. Seem to remember Sam playing Sam Cooke's Chain Gang at Brighouse a few years ago. Some looked astonished, some shook their heads but most thought what a refreshing change and it packed the floor!! Haha
  8. Thanks for all your help on this one, just to let you all know what I found out: Emorise was also known as E Morris Kelley who sang with the Paramounts. There was an issue copy of this record on Peacock but issued later - I have a scan but not sure if I have posted it correctly! It was written by Bono (sonny) and apparently he was working for speciality at the time. They were bought out by Peacock and he went as well as the promotional man. A simple question throws up so many questions!!! Cheers all Jimbo!
  9. Just digging around in one of my older, never play boxes and came across Lee Tillman singing Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye on Montel-Michelle. Youu guys got any info on this chap? Would be much appreciated. However, last time I asked, it was only sad news!!! Know anything up-beat about this guy who I think was from Mississippi? TIA
  10. Many thanks for the info - appreciate that. Shame how his life ended before he could cut more tracks though.
  11. Just got hold of Emorise Kelly singing Biggest Fool - it's been a long time since I shuddered during a song - any thoughts on this track or the man himself?? Was written by "Bono" on Peacock 1919.
  12. A whole lot of trouble is just what I have trying to locate this track! I have it on "Greatest" CD but can't seem to find it on any vinyl. Any ideas please??
