  1. Gone mate - I went to check my pennies & when I came back it said sold
  2. I thought that Herb Ward was too good to be true at £170 LOL
  3. Dells for me. No disrespect to Laura or The Tops but they don't come close on this one.
  4. Agree. Its more 1975 night out at the local disco wear rather than nighter wear. I've seen a couple of these photos before but not all of them. It just looks staged & certainly not at a nighter.
  5. Some of those badges look 'photo shopped' So
  6. Was this a nighter or just staged for the press? It looks wrong with people just stood watching others in the middle of the floor, the fashions sported by the watchers look very mainstream too, (weren't granny sandals the rage for girls in 75 ?) Edit Could just be me of course !!!!
  7. Edwin - Hands Down !
  8. Here's my take on it....... Back in the day, Joe Bloggs, Fred Blogs, Arthur Bloggs & Terry Bloggs would be guaranteed 2 one hour slots at 2 nighters every weekend. So if Joe played a record twice in his first set & emptied the floor he could still play it again in his second set & repeat the same sets he had played again the next night at a different nighter. While Joe is doing this, Fred, Arthur & Terry are doing the same with their new exclusives. By week 3 people have caught on & we have four new floor fillers from four different DJs. Eddie Smith, Bobby Smith & Tony Smith have managed to get emi discs of these new floor fillers & are playing them mixed in with their usual Thursday night do's at Worcester, Bedford & Thirsk. A new monster sound is born & other tired records are dropped in its favour (probably booted anyway) 2021/22 We don't have the small amount of exclusive places we had in say 76 (Wigan, St Ives, Cleggy, Yate) but we have far more venues & far more DJs. There is no way a newie can get broken as before because the DJs know an empty floor will mean they aint coming back any time soon, let alone being given 2 spots a night to prove their new record is the mutts nuts !....So instead of playing unknown Johnny Sharp Shirt they will play a 2 or 3 k record that will fill the floor (self preservation), & stick Johnny Sharp Shirt on in the car on the way home with their mates to enjoy. Just my thoughts....Tell me if I'm wrong, but just bare in mind ther are plenty of £2 - £20 records on here, discogs, ebay etc That would fill floors everywhere if played consistently for a month or so - So why else arent they being aired?
  9. I know
  10. Used to travel up from Bedford to the Colwyn Bay nighters - Was a really crap drive in those days but well worth it. For some strange reason they used to sell bottles of Pomayne which went down well with the other 'sundries'. Pity they demolished it, drove past when on holiday & it was gone ! Always had a good following from Wales to Wigan & all the other top nighters of the time, its a shame I haven't a Welsh speaker to tell me whats being said on the film - I havent a clue. Did notice the Studio 51 or whatever it was called mentioned so I suppose that old chestnut about Billboard is still being circulated even in Welsh !
  11. I think Hammy's is a blue one (?)
  12. Agree on Continental 4 Wouldn't have thought Mighty Marvelows so much - 2 on discogs at the moment
  13. I would say bargains at those prices. I was quite chuffed to get Andre for £80 & would happily pay the same or a bit more for Kim
  14. What sort of price do you & Tricky recon one would fetch ? Although not 'in demand' I recon it would still stir a feeding frenzy amongst collectors
  15. Never seen a Kim Toliver demo let alone had the chance to buy one ! Have you got one ?
  16. I bought one last year for 80. It's the same one as l had years ago l could tell by the writing on the label. Haven't seen any others for sale, have you?
  17. Andre Maurice - Cream of The Crop on a white Bale demo is hard. Not expensive if you can find one, (paid £80 for mine), but try finding one !
  18. Have had records from Carolina Soul at G+ that many over here would sell as VG+. To the original poster - I've had the same mate, overgrading is a big problem, many disappointing records received. However, cant see the problem in shifting them on as long as you downgrade to your own standards. Many, including myself, would rather have a snap crackle & pop record they can afford than not own it at all. Its when you shell out for a record described as EX or M- that arrives as VG- I get the hump
  19. Agreed - I'd have had a punt at that Living Color if I'd have thought it was going to go for under £250
  20. About the only thing worth listening to in RWs sets at one point. The older heads used to tell me it was played early 70s as a new release but I've no idea. I would have been too busy dancing to Slade at the school disco at the time
  21. First heard The Cashmeres at The Fleet in 79 - Soul Sam I think (?) Posse reminds me of Wigan but others have said played earlier ?
  22. What year would that have been mate?
  23. Paul Sindab - I was a fool Found a Knox copy (plain red label) with a small Powertree DJ Copy sticker covering Knox (show Knox was certainly the 1st release) in 1980 while crate digging. Brought it back & offered it to several DJs as an unknown & no-one rated it (nor did I to be honest. Sam was quite brutal )......Fast forward to around 2002 - I'd been off the scene for a while & had no idea what had been played over the last few years so sold it for next to nothing on ebay
  24. Yes mate, but for some reason The Beeb used to have issues where as all the other stations had free demos (so I was told). But, as we all know "I was told" doesn't mean its 100% fact even though the fella who told me had worked there at one time, so I wouldn't swear to it. As for Darrell Banks, if the above is true they probably wouldn't have had it if the legendary London issues were withdrawn before it came out on Stateside ? Not an expert on British though, I've always been a U.S. Collector
  25. Apparently the BBC copies were all issues (?) I think they sold them off some years back, which would explain your stamp
