  1. Yes he was a very weird man, I heard him talking to the people who run McCoys estate, I think he's been sniffing too much, too long. Chris Bartley on the other hand was a real gent, polite, gentle and just great to spend time with.
  2. Following on there's an album well worth searching out. It's called Van McCoy & friends - Dancin'. On it are some previously unreleased tunes, with Chris Bartley (although uncredited) singing a few. Best track (for me) is "Help is on the way".
  3. Was looking through Kev Roberts Top 500 this morning, dated 2003, he priced Jack Montgomery at £150.00, you can still find a decent copy at this price(ish) today.
  4. Chris Jackson was/is the name used by UK Soul City records to avoid any legal conflict, real name Marke Jackson. Chris Bartley is a completely different person, Both Marke & Chris worked with Van McCoy, Bartley staying quite a few years with McCoy on different labels.
  5. Today's trivia, the group actually record a 3rd single, never released but does have a catalogue number.
  6. Totally nuts but well done John. Most those have gone for is about £75.00 mint with sleeve, £210.00 is 'Coming to your rescue' money.
  7. They were playing Northern Soul before the Torch opened, we went in Jan 1972 to Mecca they played it then.
  8. I wish it was a clearer shot, taken this morning whilst out on my bike.
  9. There were a whole gaggle of very original looking bootlegs in the 1970s, Selecta Disc used to sell them. Johnny Sayles, Younghearts, Hesitations, Barbara Mills, Duke Browner plus whole lot more. Tough te tell from originals but there was always some giveaway like the St Lawrence without the address, Younghearts with wrong matrix number, Barbara Mills wrong size of font. Monarch did a load (styrene) plus another pressing plant did the vinyl ones. They're on kind of on a renaissance now as it's difficult to visually see difference between them and the originals and new pop-DJs buy them with abandonment.
  10. This is the boot, you can't see it on this pic but they're dished in the centre yours look original.
  11. I agree with much that been said above. We're probably at a crossroads now, already sales volumes are down with some lesser known records not fetching much whilst others are reaching the stratosphere. I suspect that within about 5 years or so we'll see far fewer old soulies on the scene and those that are about won't be buying much. A pal of mine who runs a record store in the US says that sales of Do Wop has dimished with mostly dealers buying from him.
  12. I have to say there does seem to be a flood of stuff coming on the market, surely this will have an effect on the sale/purchase prices of originals ?
  13. That's the way of the world, every country adds import duty to imported goods, difference in Europe is that once it's arrived in one of the EEU's member countries it can be moved around the EEU without duty (or VAT). It was never designed for small amounts like £100.00 or so it'll cost more to administer than the revenue it generates. As for duty there is a standard EEU duty % rate the differences will occur when the local national customs interpret that rate list. I worked in logistics for over 30 years and there some goofy things going on. We used import some products out of the USA via Holland because the customs there were prepared to accept a certain (lower) duty rate than Belgium, we then shipped them from Holland to our Belgian customer thereby saving him money, all perfectly legal.
  14. I also live in Belgium, I always ask the seller to put a low value on the record, most are willing to do that. Even when the Belgian customs get it wxrong there's no way to go back to them and fix it, they outsourced the whole thing to DVS (the old DFDS). If anybody's doing it on a regular basis they will be doing this (I'm sure)
  15. About £25 - 35 depending on condition.
  16. I will never buy again via CC only via Paypal, I believe this crook knew what he was doing when he insisted on a CC only.
  17. Probably................
  18. Be interesting to see how it ends. Not such a desirable as "Coming to your rescue", does it get played anywhere ?
  19. There's a boot/re-issue with Jesse James on B side, white demo. Another on white Dynamo and one from about 10 years ago on Harthon, they should be all easy to spot. Besides there are so few originals about you'll be able to tell from the asking price.
  20. You should get one for about £60 - 70, try and get the one with pic sleeve.
  21. Earl Jackson got released there, someone on here has one !! There used to be a foreign labels thread go check it out there's some pretty weird releases.
  22. Post a scan of the label.
  23. Ending today, good luck....................
  24. Never thought it was booted on ABC, was on Soul Sounds and there are a couple of legitimate released, Kent and from NS movie.
  25. Monarch pressed boot.
