Heard that Pantiles will be rebuilt into an old peoples home, can't think of a better place to spend my last days, might even hang around the car park
  5. 10000% on the nail, my wife always says I come back from these events grinning like a Montivedeo mouse Love the drive up north too, my mates have wonderful memories and great feelings for humour, NS tunes on the CD, guessing how long the que to get in will be, will the North Staffs hotel have any running water, we'd settle for a slow jogging stuff, honest............ The NS scene is so healthy right now that the whole Red Army couldn't take it on.
  6. Bruce just called to say "any set Neele duz is grayt....burp....." If fact last Bury (July one) was pretty good, all the DJ's played the right stuff. Glad I went thru 67 million gallons of rain to get there................
  7. I look forward to your next thread with "baited" breath.........................I am sure it will be witty, full of unknown facts, historical, uplifting, mind searing and ever so positive

  13. I have a tape of the Torch, circa 1972, apparantly there are 3 of them in circulation, mine has Alan Day & martyn Ellis. Records played are Jerry Cook, Sweet Things, Toys, Johnny Moore, etc. You're welcome to a copy. Chris L
  14. What's his last name ?
  15. Irish Dad, Jamaican Mum....................or is it the other way around ?
  16. Camberley-Agincourt - DJ called Jamie something or other Shades of Green, Banners/Cambridge Hotel, - did them, Mike Ritson D'd at the Shades Farnborough- Blue Moon - was that the all-niter ? Reading Top Rank (Night Owl), - Boy, did that loadsa times Woking-Atlanta; - won me spurs at that place, remember the floor used to bend and bounce ? Richmond-Cheeky Pete's; - went there a couple of times, used to date a girl from Surbiton Bracknell carpark - Dawbourne's (I think). - used to date a couple of girls from Bracknell used to go there to, I have somewhere some photos taken there on Barbara Morris's 21st, she hired it for the night.
  17. He and I used to hang out when we were 16, made contact with him about a year ago, we plan to meet up end September when I'm next in the UK, boy did we ever get into some stuff together if only our parents knew. Both my girlfrinds of the time were in love with him, mind I was the one shagging 'em so didn't matter
  18. A real long shot but a bloke who I got real friendly with from the Machester area had a girlfriend (later his wife) called Barbara Wright, she also came from Levenshulme. She used to go the Mecca and the Torch. This photo taken in 1973 whilst she and her mates were on vacation on the I-O-W. Bob died over ten years ago but understand Barbara still about. Would be gret to make contact agin, so any leads welcome. Cheers....... Chris L
  19. There were actually quite a few clubs in the area in the early 70T's. In Woking the Atalanta, Agincourt in Camberley (sung on stage with Edwin Starr - Tueday night, way before War made him a super-star - very much riding on those Ric-Tic re-issues), Something underneath the car park in Bracknell, opposite Bentalls, don't know the name, Pantiles of course, best soul club around was the A Train in Guildford every sunday evening, 100% soul, think one of the DJ's is involved on Bisley. There was a real Northern Soul all-niter in Portsmouth, put together by sailors from "Up Norf" called the Marina. On a par with the Wheel as far as music was concerned, loads of imports, M Lance, etc. It started to go pear shaped with the advent of funk/protest "soul" music 1971/72 that's when we headed up to the Cats, Mecca & Torch. Ever come accross a character called Pat Munroe? he used to live practically at Pantiles. Chris L
  20. Don't know how old you are but there used to be an all-niter in Farnborough, close to the station, underneath the then Yellow Pages offices, think it was called something like "Blue Lagoon" or something like that, it was a very, very, very long time ago. Chris L
  21. Good point, if you go to Stoke you'll see Sean Chapman actually dancing to his own records (so do the rest of the punters BTW). I have been to some NS venues (especially in the London area) where DJ's had their backs to the dancefloor while they trawled thru their ever so rare and valuable records to play. I guess it's not really that important if the DJ dances, the real issue is, are the money paying punters out on the floor enjoying themselves? Chris L
  22. Where are you from Moldie ?
  23. Anybody else on Soul Source ever frequent Pantiles, on the A30 in Bagshot, Surrey ? Not exactly a 100% soul club, but in the 70T's the music they played was about 75% soul, old and current. I had a mate Phil barrs who DJ'd there guess about 1974 - 76 he was an old Mecca/Torch hand and snook the odd NS choon in when he could. Many a great night had there over the years, have to say more for chasing women than spinning to Rose Batiste....... https://www.pantilesclub.co.uk/Main.htm Oohhh............if only that car park could talk...................
  24. I tend to like high qualiy productions and arrangements. Van McCoy, H-D-H, Tom Bell-Jackson- Wisner, Renzetti-Linzer-Ross, that kind of stuff. How would you pigeon-hole it, Motown and their soundalikes I guess. Of course a nice back beat to make things swing-a-long. Uptemo and floaters, some ballads, don't care if it's 60/70/80/90/2007T's.
  25. A re-issue, bootleg, pressing call it what you will, went for £200 this week, guy advertised it as such and there were people enough to bid and buy. Those 70T's Alexander Pattons were going for 30 - 40 quid a few years ago, so yes it's part of the scene, besides who would you report it to ?
