  1. 1st we went to the Cats, me Brucey, Hugh & Phil, there was only Alan S and some dopey bird in there, all the rest decided to go the Mecca, most bizzare. Mind we didn't 'alf 'ear some great sounds, plus that bird gave Phil a big bag of sweeties to get home with "know what I mean?" The rest, as they say........was spewing our guts up down the M1 Chris L

  7. Very true young man. Most of the ones that do write these vindictive posts tend to be people who really haven't "done much" on the soul scene. When you've been there, done it, smoked the tee shirt, all in a MK I Cortina to boot, well it just ins't worth it. Soul fans who've stuck their necks out will, unfortunately, get them hacked off, usually by the "Only Three Known Copies" crowd. Live and let live. Chris L
  8. They didn't notice it and never gave a sh**

  10. If you lived in London (we I dunn like) there was only 2 places to go to get clothes. First choice was the Ivy Shop in Richmond, they sold brogues, plaintops, BS's, all the right stuff. Then later, about 70/71 would have been Quincy's, also in Richmond, into loafers, pringle jumpers, etc. We were so cool we had icicles between our teeth. Me at 16 Chris L
  11. I guess it all depends on your point of view. If you believe that the Northern Soul scene is an amatuer boys and girls club where we are all "good mates" then yes let's by all means take all these issues into consideration. If on the other hand you think that it's a pure commercial decision then make that commercial judgement. You may of course get it all wrong, there are many stories of venues having an attendence figure of 20 or less, or..........if you research it well, get the right DJ's and music policy, a great venue then good luck to you. after you pays your money and you takes your choice, cream will always rise to the top. 12. This is one of those choons that's souns a tad naff in je bedroom but rocks a dance-floor at about half past midnight. Not sure if they reach much more than £50 nowadays. Chris L

  15. Gerry & the Pacemakers (no pun intended) recorded "Today I'm In Love" who did the original ? Curious Chris.................
  16. I've seen the Mod scene in LA when I've been there, of course Nancy Yahiro very much the Queen of the Mods (although think she's now in Italy). They're very, very much int retro sixties wear and their musical tastes on the rare soul side. They all seemed very naive when I spoke to them, mixing up the Merseybeat, Mods, Northern Soul, the Who, etc, guess they've made it in their mould, seems to suit them (no pun intended). Nice people though, in a place where being over 30 is akin to being ready for burial they seeme in awe of anyone who'd gone to an old all-nighter. Chris L
  17. Span Always get your seller to declare "value for customs..........." as low as possible, this is legal and not tied to the price you paid and will not affect your insurance. You know what my job is, so you know that I speak with straight tongue. Just had a $310.00 record come in on a Customs value of $7.50. You know it makes sense......................... Just to cheer you here is a pic of my son wearing a Indian headress and 3 snakes..................... Cheers.............. Chris L
