  1. That's what happens on internet sites, you can hide behind your keyboard and pretty much say what you like. If it's rude and trendy enough you'll get some laughs. On top of that there's that weird British obsession about knocking a "big name". Chris L

I have to say I do find it difficult to remain emotionless when I play this tape, we were all gonna live forever, bulletproof and shagged all night long We still chuckle when we do "Martyn Ellis" anecdotes, halcyon days............ 7. I don't live in the UK anymore but me and me old muckers always wanted to go to ska/bluebeat/rocksteady night, some from our pre-exclusive soul days circa end 60T's (the real 60Ts as in 1968/69). The idea of pork pies sounds appetising. Having lost my job last Friday I have to hand back the company car on the 31st so may be some while before I'm over again. Wotz a Rickenbacker ? Learing to fly a SPAD maybe Good luck in anycase, no fights please or "who you screwing chav ?" although high doses of kissing is permitted Chris L
  8. What is actually a "Northern Soul/Mod night" ? Chris L
  9. Rumour has it he's allergic to Vaseline
  10. I listen to anything soulful from the 60Ts to present day, my older brother was a Mod in the 60Ts niether he or his mates ever played any Latin, Mambo, Cha-cha, Tango or Shona Tribal. BTW mohair suits were long out of fashion when NS got started. Seems to me that you can call any genre NS nowadays.
  11. That's very true, no matter what country they are in they tend to be that way
  12. She did a version of the Spellbinders "Chain Reaction" on RCA, early 70T's meethinks Chris L
  13. I recently sold one for £75, probably the most expensive 2nd issue apart from Del-larks. Chris L
  14. I came accros this on an old file this morning : It's a contract for Chris appearing on the Clay Cole Show 9th August 1967, the rate paid was "scale" whatever that was then !! Broadcasting from WPIK Florida, aahh Florida the sweetest thing this side of heaven................... This is petty nifty too...................
  15. I hope it plays OK, it's a great choon, always fills that maple sprung thingy..................
  16. Tony I think you will find that most of the "Venom" comes from people who have never been connected to Wigan, those that were mostly smile, much as they would at Benny Hill. I know a very, very, very famous DJ who played from a laptop and he's still alive so let RW do his doin's and we'll all get on with our lives as you know the marjority of postings come from the same people most of the time
  17. You know that's kinda not true. Whilst circa 1972 there were about 6 largish venues, NS was played "de rigeur" up norf, it was soul or rock/pop in all the large cities. I met some Brummies and visited, guessing around 1971 went down their local pub, right big place, they had a DJ playing Major Lance and others. At that time in London a Major Lance was something a cavalry officer carried about Not sure that the figure of 56 million at the Sex Pistols gig (100 Club) is strictly correct, as their spikey hairdoes tended to inflate the body count...........

  19. YES he was..................
  20. THE greatest soul singer of them all, no ifs or buts, he was the "Tops". Got to see him in 1975 at the Hammersmith Palais, the Four Tops with him singing lead were awesome. We may never see the likes of him ever again. RIP Levi Chris L
  21. Long enough for what ?
  22. What a load of cobblers, get a frecking life !!
  23. When I stay in the US the highlight of my day is when the free copy of USA Today is slid under the hotel room door. I run to pick it up and scramble to find the pages and pages of reviews about soul music. I am constatly knocked out by their depth of knowledge and expertise............ GO !! USA TODAY !!! right on man, hang ten dude, tighten up and keep your flies right !!
