You know if you look at the DJ line up that should give you a good idea of what will get played. If you don't know them then feel free to ask in advance what you can expect, you know it makes sense..........

Yes that one was called the Wooden Bridge but the Plaza went W A Y W A Y back, reckon 1969-ish latest I was not quite 16 (I was dating an 18 year old girl from a local Guildford council estate meethinks Belfields - was long time ago). Very much sta-press, Harringtons, plaincaps era

I really don't remember the Shades of Green, I used to go, I know Mike Ritson very well, bit of a blur I'm afraid Bet I'm the only one on SS that used to go to the Guildford Plaza pretty decent soul nights on a Sunday, meethinks called the A Train some great nights out......... Chris L

The 1st car we ever went to a Northern Soul venue was a Ford Popular, only had three gears and lorries were overtaking us. It had those vacuum driven windscreen wipers that used to slow down when going up a hill It took so long to get from south London to Blackpool we took in turns to sleep on the back seat Chris L

Jake The best of all is the one on the inside of the Torch CD from Goldmine, your father in his prime doing what he did best DJ-ing at a Northern Soul venue. If you contact Paul Donnelly he's made a CD from a tape I have of your dad performing at the Torch circa Oct 1972. Good luck Chris L

He was indeed a real character and it's lovely people are still talking about him. A super DJ in spite of the fact he had no or little records he seemed to come alive (more than usual) on stage, Martyn was always destined to go out with a bang. Gone but not forgotten.................... Chris L

There was an all-dayer somewhere, I went once, thing was we had such a long drive back to south London in some rather dodgy cars we couldn't risk leaving too late for fear of having to drive in the dark Chris L

Yes Barry you're right and just where do you draw the line ? You wanna play Eddie Spencer ? Does it HAVE to be on Canadian ARC or on a UK release, after all the UK release isn't a boot, you could argue it's an original, I suspect the real reason has far more to de with being snobbish, that's always been on the scene. Right it's 06.58 it's cold time for some porridge..................

Generally speaking the scene is a pretty mature one, if possible one should play original vinyl at a venue however it's hardly a hanging offence if the odd pressing gets played here or there (like those unreleased Motown tracks). The vocal minority that posts on this forum (aka The Soul Police) are no way representative of the NS scene at large in fact most have their heads so far up their ar**s you can see their tongues sticking out of their bellybuttons.

Dave Evison played this at Stoke, meethinks in March, can't be sure which date but he did play it, it went down quite well, probably the most expensive record Dave owns Chris L
