Radio Luxembourg-Black Friday
I used to work next door to their office in Hertford street, London, one day I got off the tube at Green Park swung across Piccadilly and there were thousands of young screaming girls in the street I had to find a telepone box, ring the office to find out what was going on. David Cassidy was in the studios and the word had leaked out Used to listen to it all the time I could, their last record everynight (in my day) was the long version of the Doors - Light my fire...........

What's The Most You've Paid
I bought a Jerry Cook demo at the Torch in '72 cost £18, that was like a months wages back then (played it all day the Sunday non-stop )

What's The Most You've Paid
Bravo, don't think I could bring myself to spend that amount of money on a record, no matter how good or rare it was, well done.

What's The Most You've Paid
7th Ave Aviators, $700, sold it on when the pound collapsed at a profit, from an Ebay seller although not from Ebay itself she contacted me and did a deal outside of Ebay. Some say I shoulda held on just a little tighter........... Don't think I ever paid more than that for a single, if I did I can't remember. Best buys I ever did were 3 x Trends + 2 x Willie Kendrick all for $225...........

Your First All-Nighter..where & When
The Torch opening night, no idea what 1st sound was "off me 'ead" like in later weeks I was standing in the que to get in when they played "Hit & Run" and the crowd outside started a stampede to get onto the dancefloor, lifted my mate Phil right of his feet !!!

Your Top 10 Northern Soul 'characters'
Tony Rounce for telling me and my mates about Northern Soul, telling Ian Levine we'd come up north where we got a warm welcome Ian Levine - for about 50 things of which only 1 is negative Les Cockell - he really made us laugh (I think) Tony Jebb- he made us laugh even more (nice stride there Tony :-) Richard Searling - getting us on the radio for 2 hours where we yacked a load of old bo**ocks and played some wonderful NS tunes. Alans S - DJ superstar at the Cats - let me look at his record box on my first night at any NS venue, boy did I ever write down some titles, labels, etc. Bob Shoreman - My 1st true Northern Soulmate, the only bloke I knew who could dance to the left whilst his trousers went to the right Kev Roberts - for getting some of the artists we both love on his radio show The Stoke DJs - Neil, Nige, Sean, et al........they make my UK trips all worthwhile The Bloke Who Built The Golden Torch - can't imagine life without that place having existed

West Indian Music In The Uk History ?
Is there anything out there that tells the story of of WI music that came to the UK in the 60s? I'm assuming it want from ble-beat to ska to rock-steady and finihed up being called reggae. As a kid I bought tons of stuff on Trojan, Bamboo, Gas, Pama, etc. I can never ever remember calling it reggae

Your One Golden 'five Minutes'
2 years ago walking into the hotel where Abdul Fakir from the Four Tops was staying and chatting with him, me remembering seeing him in 1975 Best Golden 2 hours was meeting the legendary Arthur Wright in my hotel in LA, the guy is awesome. Best golden 5 hours was hanging out with, seeing naked and getting drunk with Leola Jiles from the Apollos Best Golden Day was getting the Ad-Libs, Spellbinders & Chris Bartley together in a hotel in New jersey Best Golden car ride was me driving Sandi Sheldon around London. Is R'nb More To Do With Northern Soul
Most R n B I've heard sounds like it's been recorded in an airport toilet. The ONLY reason it's barged it's way onto the soul scene is that people who "didn't make it" first time round or have come on the the scene much later want to make (or to be seen making) a contribution today and as most, if not pretty much all, Motownesque sounds (Motown is 50 years old today !!) have been discovered and played on the scene only this low 'nee' no quality R n B is out there. R n B gets camoulflaged as being "the" progressive soul sound of today, never was so much poppycock written by so few................ Like Rock & Roll? Webby, don't insult the Rockers of this world.....................
