  1. IMPORTANT NEWS FOR ALL GOING TO HOSE STREET MEMORIAL PLAQUE !!!!!!! PLEASE READ Just at the top of Hose street is a barbers shop called "FeeAli" - voted Nr.1 barber of the year by the Tunstall Sentinal (I kid thee not) they'll do you a great trim at £7.00 a head (pardon the pun) - after all, you do want to look your best when those cameras start clicking.
  2. 10-Alan Day, Martyn Ellis and Tony Jebb djing live at The Torch CD £?? Considering its a live recording from 1972 done on a small cassette player then transferred to CS, I for one was expecting a muffled recording however it sounds remarkably clear. 15 mins of Alan Day 30 mins of Tony Jebb 40 mins of Martyn Ellis The sheer excitement on pressing the play button on this piece of history was immense. Not only did I find myself waiting for each sound to come pounding out of the speakers with the excitement of a six year old on Xmas day but the piss take and camaraderie that was prevalent at Hose St is there for all to hear via the DJ exchanges, hardly any noise from the dance floor just three iconic soul dj's doing what they did best. Copies of this wonderful piece of history will be available on the day for £5 each ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This will be the best £5 you ever spent - if you went to the Torch you'll get the most severe shivers down your spine - if you didn't then you'll get a real feel how the place was - what stikes me is how young we all were - don't think (apart from KM) anyone was over 20 years old.

  4. Does anybody have Chris Kings set ? (no cheeky remarks like 'next years ?' ) Thanks
  5. Well the real question is would all those Motownesque soundlikes been produced had there not been any Motown. The answer is yes, may have sounded somewhat different, a lot of soul music isn't/wasn't Motown.
  6. Great thread, scans, memories, top stuff..............................John Abbey top geyser.....................
  7. Yes Dave, they did it at New Brunswick in the hotel lobby, they hadn't seen each other for years. What a smashing bloke Bartley was, no wonder Van McCoy loved him
  8. As opposed to being on the "Colder Sisters" label.................
  9. Nice set, yes the floor was packed
  10. This is Sandi Sheldon giving Chris Bartley the cuckoo eyes........................
  11. I was her driver........................... I have a poster from the Chris Bartley album with her gazing into Chris's eyes........
  12. I wrote an article about Van McCoy for Dave Moore's "There's That Beat" - the more I dug into the man the more I was in awe of him. The real highlight was tracking down and befriending David Kapralik his long time partner at Columbia/Date, freckling awesome dude !! Van McCoy has been forever synonymous with soul music and not many soul stars can match his contribution. Chris Lalor takes a look at the man, his life, his music and pays tribute to one of the few people who wear the mantle of "legendary" in complete comfort.
  13. Good idea thanks, what's the "book price" for the book ?
  14. The co-writer Alecia Evelyn, wrote a bunch of pop and rock & roll songs too........................ Also listen and learn langauge tapes This record holds "The Record" as being the most played soul record on TV & film. When you hear the intro you just want to hug the nearest secretary
  15. During 1968 to 1970 there were a large batch of earlier released UK soul records that got re-released. Can I find anywhere a list of what got released in those years?, preferably by label, to avoid scouring through some 100.000+ releases............... Any info welcome, it's for a magazine article I'm writing, any assistance is welcome, thanks. This for example got released originally in 1966 on UK CBS and then re-released in 1969 on Direction.......................
  16. Wot Me A VMC Fan ?
  17. Hope so, guess it'll never leave the UK shores....................
