  1. Finally got to track down Gilbert Govaerts a kind of Belgian Popcorn cross between Richard Searling & Ian L Anyway he said the record has been authorised by SABAM but reckons no royalties were ever paid. Released about 75-ish in answer to the BP fans demand. If you want to know his exact words they are : een officiele bootleg,d.w.z.dat degene die deze plaat heeft gereleased, een toelating heeft bekomen van SABAM(als men maar betaalt is voor SABAM alles ok)om deze plaat te persen, maar geen valabele overeenkomst hebben met de eigenaar van dit werk!tenzij met een fictieve(nep)overeenkomst.
  2. I couldn't find the previous thread about people who'd bought records thinking it was top notch single only to find they'd paid for a lemon....... Here's one you'd need to read carefully before parting with hard earned cash
  3. Bit of trivia, group contains James Wright, ex Spellbinder..................
  4. Well, we're all aware how many labels/artists tried to copy Motown, the most successful black operated label of all time. Berry Gordy was very fast on his feet if he suspected plagiarism, he won court settlement against Curtis Mayfield for "Can't satisfy" and stopped the release of "Baby reconsider" because of a threat of court action, as far as I know this didn't happen to this tune, thanks heavens. I always thought CC looked a bit like a Supreme member. What's really interesting (well to me anyway) is that Heartaches away is a Super K production, these were the Kasenetz Katz people who went onto huge success with Bubble Gum.
  5. Another artist that recorded on Vando was Art Robins, he's still around living in Syracuse, you can actually see him on YouTube singing live, old soul numbers. Not even his son knows much about him............
  6. Try and get the other one on Tower - Another Chance b/w Rain. The former a dreamy mid tempo delight the B side wonderful ballad all done by that Philly genius Tommy Bell, you should be able pick one up for a tenner in today's market. They did a couple on Tower too, well worth having one "It's unbelievable" is a re-recording of their earlier release on Sheryl. Good luck
  7. Not sure that this qualifies for CSOTD but for sure HTMHF............................ https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/The-Sweets-Satisfy-Me-Baby-Something-About-My-Baby-Soultown-Original-/300730156793?pt=UK_Records&hash=item4604ea06f9#ht_500wt_1202
  8. I guess this is considered a re-issue ? Love it but at a cool £1000 plus for a US one way out of my league.............
  9. It probably is, don't forget the current US rare soul scene, it's pretty big : https://windycitysoulclub.com/ The Belgian Popcorn scene is a parallel world with the UK NS scene, born in the very early 70s, 60s soul music (when it started) totally underground, full of politics and posy DJs, sellers, collectors and matrix reading anoraks and to top it all it's in the north of the country.
  10. In London in the early 70s there boxes of these, honest, nobody wanted it "played out" was the term along with Darkest Days
  11. Have added more..................... https://www.ebay.co.u...sid=p4340.l2562 Thanks for looking...............
  12. In my experience UK pressed records do play better, well I think so anyway, perhaps some anorak could confirm this
  13. There's no law on what you can play, good road map is it it came out in the 60s/70s in the as a 1st issue (Stateside, Parlophone, etc.) OK. If it got "issued" only because of demand, probably in the 70s, so as Pete says Yvonne Baker, NOK.
  14. Great thread, there's been a few about Blue Sharks - These things................................ I do realize that this record causes some indignation, eyebrow raising and soul-searching but it does fill that dance floor, that's for sure. Whilst it's not so expensive as it was (around the £400 - 500 mark) it is and remains well sought after. The thread(s) intrigued so much that I a spent a bit of time this weekend digging. Blue Sharks has been a common name for groups but few (if more than 2 ?) have had recordings issued. There was a Belgian group that recorded for Star records in Belgium, just look how similar it is to the Gran Prix label. The Star issue came in a picture sleeve and gave the impression to have been taken on a bridge in New York however the number plate is Belgian. It's not unusual for Belgian groups/artists to go "abroad" to try and get some success, this is a small country with limited possibilities. Anyway I've found the writers and producers and will get to talk to them in a week or 2. Would be great if they all still lived here, maybe they did other soul sessions !! Wonder what's next, Sylvie Vartan - De ma vie ?
  15. About 50+ will get listed, here's some of them : https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/watchguyone/m.html?hash=item3cc7a537c2&item=261047531458&pt=UK_Records&rt=nc&_trksid=p4340.l2562 Thanks for looking......................
