  2. Rare Pleasure are best remembered for their 1976 disco classic ‘Let Me Down Easy’ on Cheri Records 12”. However, a follow up remained elusive and their 1977 ‘Superfine Feeling’ only ever saw the light of day as a horribly rare Frankford/Wayne Mastering Labs acetate running at 10:45 and costing over £400 if you were ever able to track one down. The release has been licensed through Good Time Inc. Licensing. This is a legitimate first time UK release. Comes in white inner sleeve and outer cardboard Ramrock Retro stock bag. Dinked centre. Available for the very reasonable price of £5.00 from Ramrock's Bandcamp site: https://ramrock.bandcamp.com/album/rret003-rare-pleasure-superfine-feeling-pts-1-2 In 2020, Dance Music don, Ashley Beedle was approached to edit the unreleased track which had a UK 12” vinyl release in 2021 on Spencer Broughton’s As and Bees label. Having heard the track in all its glory, Ramrock Boss, Jo Wallace immediately thought that a 7” edit would sound like a Blackpool Mecca classic that never existed! And so, the editing process began again and, this time, the North Street Collective of Ashley Beedle, Darren Morris and Jo Wallace came up with ‘Superfine Feeling’ 7” Edit and in the true tradition of soul tracks, named them Pt1 & Pt2. An exuberant, uplifting, Mecca Soul unreleased monster finally receiving the talcumed dancefloor love it deserves 44 years later! Once they're gone, they're gone. Jo xx
  3. The Penthouse was in an old air traffic control tower at Rochester Airport. I went there once. I wore platform shoes to make myself look 16 lol.
  4. I used to go to the Central RnB Club in the mid 70s. But as luck would have it, I still know the DJ, Mungo Parks who was the DJ during the 60s at the Central. He DJ'd for Major Lance and Prince Buster. Are you able to send me these photos to see if they jog his memory. Dave and Lew went on to DJ at the Ash Tree in Chatham - another really popular venue with strong soul roots. The interior that you see in the Maxine photos remained unchanged in the 70's. The Central's ballroom was demolished in the late 70s/early 80s and it became the Avenue nightclub. It wasn't demolished to make way for a housing estate or Tescos. Tescos was across the road. I was the Sunday night resident DJ along with Paul French (RIP) at the Avenue from '83/84 onwards. I was working in Caroline Records in the Pentagon in Chatham and was getting all the imports and white labels into the shop and taking them to the Sunday night do's. One of the biggest 'coups' was having an import 7" of Freddie Jackson's 'Rock Me Tonight', playing it on the Sunday night and selling 200 copies on UK 12" the following week. Caroline's was a chart shop, with a Gallup machine and the people from Gallup came down to the shop as they didn't believe that I'd sold that many copies!!
  5. The whole point is to have dancers from the scene who have put the years into allnighters rather than 'proper' dancers. That is really important. People like me who've been on the scene for years and who still feel the lure of the dancefloor....knees allowing
  6. Most of the best dancers are a sweaty mess by the end of a night. I need people who get the scene, who get the passion behind it. Confidence and knowledge always comes across on the dancefloor. It took a while....but I got there
  7. Morning Russ, Long time and hope you're well. 'Look the part' - good on the dancefloor, representing the scene in a respectful way. I need people who've lived the life. Jo xx Whatever you can fit into these days

  11. Hi everyone and Happy International Women's Day 2022. I thought it would be very appropriate to present 2 overlooked pieces of vinyl from the stunning artists, Pauline Taylor and Kameelah Waheed. Both have a long and strong musical legacy pre-Ramrock and it has been the label's absolute pleasure to release their music. The Pauline Taylor EP is a incredibly emotive 4 track EP with Pauline's stripped vocals riding over her original dark, gospel tinged compositions. The sleeve is reverse board with an inner black paper bag. The cover artwork was a very special gift.....let's just say the artist would want 10K just to pick a pencil up. Kameelah's 'Holding On' is hip house, hip hop - call it what you want - it's just a joyous piece of music. https://ramrock.bandcamp.com/album/kameelah-waheed-holding-on-ep (scroll down the page when you land on it to see the double pack) For this weekend only, take this opportunity to grab two 7" at the special price of £10. There are limited quantities so don't miss out. Have a wonderful weekend. Jo xx
