  1. I've been playing this out at every opportunity, over the last eighteen months or so. As has been said, a stone funk classic already, and indeed I first heard it on the fantastic, Jason Perlmutter/jazzman 'Carolina Funk' CD. I thought it had great potential for the soul scene largely due to it's fantastically danceable, relentless groove, and it has gone down particularly well when I've played it in Europe. I saw Sam pick his copy up from Andy Dyson at Thorne a couple of weeks back and I told him that both you and I had been playing it out for some time......must have slipped his mind
  2. Dave Thorley was telling me the other week that Charles Mintz had done backing vocals on this session- wow would like to have been a fly on the wall for that one! I'm sure Dave has more info...... Dave
  3. Do you know for certain, because all your reasons above seem a bit speculative.I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more proof.I have bought from this guy in the past without problem. That, of course doesn't mean he's not pulling a fast one, but it's very easy to bad mouth someone and wreck his auction if you're so inclined.
  4. Thanks for that! Great info!
  5. Had this on the racks for many a year now- real nice lo-fi feel to it, and love the way the label credits 'Mckenzie records PA and guitar rental'. If you need any label info etc let me know.. Dave
  6. I may have inadvertantly misled on the 12"-I called my 5track ep with the 6min+ version a 12", as it looked the same as the eddie owens/billups "old Gold" 12", but I reckon this is what others are calling the album.
  7. I think you're right Helena, my brother Jordi had the 45 for a while before trading it on. I remember being really dissapointed in the LP mix when I subsequently got one, and have never felt like playing it from the Lp knowing that it's inferior.
  8. I remember standing behind him when he pulled that out of 'Blacknight's' sales box at Pitches.
  9. Reckon it is . Only one i've seen was on John Manships auction last year some time. Will get a clip to you.
  10. I have the Album, Brian, also on JM from '79. It's live at the 'classic supper club 1' and it features a much livelier take of both these cuts. Much bigger (different, but IMHO, not necessarily inferior) sound as a consequence of all that brass that Karl mentions. let me know if you want a sound clip.
  11. I hope you didn't, mate
  12. Not sure Simon, he really should have more gigs, but he mainly plays in the Midlands-though if you fancy a weekend break Me and Him are doing Edu's Movin on night in Barcelona on June 13th.
  13. It's been out for a while Ian - our kid's been playing it for a couple of years now!
  14. Without wishing to hijack your thread, I am desperate for a copy of 'Trying to Survive' if anyone out there has one lying around... Dave Ripolles
  15. you're right, picked mine up for about $60.....can't hear the better track though
  16. My Issue is bright yellow with green writing.... Dave
  17. I kind of like it! Great groove and the rhythm guitar reminds me a bit of Rivage . Agree with Simon that the vocals could be better but could really see it being a huge record. Nearly got one myself but it just lacks that 'edge' if you know what I mean. It came out on two labels, one with a muddier mix. They have been tracked down and have been placed in influential hands..... ian Wright has been playing it for a while now and it was certainly part of his 'Soul Spectrum' set In March...
  18. Tom, Check the sales section, Andreas has a copy of the Three prophets on Together, which I think is the record that you want. Dave
  19. ...and there I was thinking it was just me that got lucky on that one...£30 wasn't it?...one of Gary's dear ones Dave

..you only have to ask my friend... Dave

Dean would never play it at Parkers because he hated the fuzz guitar so much-I kept telling him that he should! Dave
  22. ...if i thought anyone other than you me and our kid were reading this , I might feel wounded by that remark...
  23. In fairness, Rod, you didn't say that about the Ernest Bolden, but you did, however, say it about the Tolbert- 'I Got It' 45 i had from you at your flat on the same night...... Hope you're well fella, Dave
  24. Yes you did Rod, and thanks again. Same artist, same red label and , yes, quite possibly you are getting senile
  25. Try George at Concourse records I'm sure he had one listed on his site this week ( May even be Les' copy as he has been known to dig in the crates at King Bee).
