I just find it odd that it’s a small selection of boogaloo things that have gained popularity hector rivera chance for romance bobby Valentin use it before you loose it harvey averne never learned to dance manny corchado pow wow Tony Middleton Spanish maiden yes there are others that may get a play now and then, Subway Joe, Hey Sister, heads head , already satisfied, true love etc the genre has so many good soulful tunes, yes often on long players but it’s interesting to me why only a handful of boogaloo tunes sort of made it massive on the soul scene and then that’s the end of it
-
So I am wondering why the soul scene sort of has a handful of boogaloo acceptable big sounds but seems to ignore the genre as a whole just wondering

I have collected boogaloo records since I first heard soul drummers and Joe bataan gypsey woman when I was 16 Why are there only a couple of popular tracks like Hector Rivera and Bobby Valentin , Tony Middleton etc that have sort of broke All the boogaloos are on the lps it was a lp scene not a 45 rpm scene Just a point of view

I haven’t the answers I just love collecting things I like I’m from a mod point of view to me if I like it, it’s Mod I won’t stop collecting records , I collect Jamaican 60s and also boogaloo things, along with soul and rnb but also British mod and soul things Everything I like is mod and if it isn’t mod if I like it becomes mod I couldn’t give a shit bury me a mod

Or alternatively you can buy couple of 3000 watt DAS audio speakers and put them in the house in your record room this set up ensures ear blowing sounds in the comfort of your record room What’s not to like !!!!

Thanks Chalky haven’t been on the scene properly / regularly since the 90s Apart from odd thing here and there. Just get my fix from collecting so expect the odd daft question from me now and again
-
Is it getting popular and played again tho Chalky ? Hence £480 on JM this week ? Imagined it was one of those tunes that had been mostly forgotten since the 80s / 90s I don’t go out to events anymore, thats why I was enquiring . I think I only paid about 75 quid for my copy, probably 10 years ago. off craig Moerer. i deffo first heard it a 100 club , and from a tape swap with Alan Handscome around the same early 90s
-
that’s where I first heard it early late 80s 90s used to be there regular at the time as I lived in Colliers Wood / Mitchum I know the meaning was played more at the time as far as I remember

Rose St John , fools don’t laugh Fantastic record, sort of reminds me of Monique never let me go and Nothing in this world by Dottie and Millie I’m guessing this has started to get played at events ? was always my fav side of this 45

Eddie Billups - Shake off that dream - bootleg?
Gaz T replied to Nickinstoke's topic in Look At Your Box
I guess it’s time to compare the matrix stamp / information on the copy with both sides and the copies with the different flip If it’s definitely vinyl with proper moulded label and the matrix matches , that would be interesting. -

I would guess it must be the copy sent to radio stations if it’s got the push side on both sides ? -

It was available to pre order just before Covid lockdown I ordered all the first bunch of Penrose 45s and then Covid happened I was e mailed asking if I wanted to cancel the order a number of times , but just thought I would see it out when things started opening up again they eventually arrived I can honestly say that was the longest I have ever waited for 45s Great tune , I love Joe Bataan and he sounds very similar vocally
