  1. This is a great tribute to him I found on you tube from all the industry people , it’s a trailer for a film about Freddie Gorman Did it ever get released,? I haven’t seen it
  2. And then by a twist of fate he ended up back at Motown when Berry Gordy bought ric tic he then joined The Originals He along with the rest of The Originals were the go to for backing vocals at Motown, apparently on many big Motown hits later half of 60s And of course the classic “suspicion” NS classic He also co wrote “please mr postman” for the Marvellettes Quite amazing considering he is probably not a famous name generally
  3. Except Ric Tic did not discover Freddie Gorman He was active from the mid 50s. He was writing at Motown and released a 45 in his own name with Motown early 60s The day will come / just for you on Miracle Granted, he achieved more success at Golden World, Notably co writing Just like Romeo and Juliet for The Reflections which sold millions.
  4. The last one he auctioned (an issue if I remember) went for around the same I don’t think people realise how rare it is on uk , or its been forgotten as a dj play I wouldn’t sell my copy anyway cause it’s fabulous
  5. Would probably be an expensive uk 45 if it had been played loads and took off not many us copy’s on Popsike either Classic Motown style Northern that !! I love the way John Manship lists the interesting overlooked and underplayed on his auctions, not just the established biggies
  6. I like the Kim Weston on MGM I had never heard that before really grows and builds , love it I see it’s written by Willie Hutch not really that many copy’s gone though e bay on Popsike either. I take it that it has never had much DJ action Another overlooked gem ?
  7. Not forgetting Bessie Griffins liberty lp which has a couple of outstanding tunes on it , including two little fishes which is a lovely jazzy R&B mover also available on a French ep but get the LP as it has another track on it which is just as good
  8. this is a very good R&B screamer sort of uptempo mod R&B with obvious gospel lyrics and backing
  9. Drummonds , went there myself yes there was a period of “smart dress only” door policy in the 80s on the Mod Scene I always put it down to keeping the “casuals’ out of clubs as they were the royal pain of a Mods life in the 80s until everyone went mellow and laid back towards the end of the decade with the on set of ecstasy but that’s another thread
  10. You should have gone on a few Mod doos bud. We were worse with each other I have a different memory Mod corner at the 100 club (left of stage as you faced it ) was always a friendly place IMO I had been doing all nighters all over the country by 86 / 87 Bradford , keele, etc etc and was more of a skin I suppose by early 89 when I started going to 100 club i was a regular at the 100 club and absolutely loved it,. loads of mates from up north and wales used to get down great memories I keep getting asked by my pal Rich to get my arse down again.
  11. Chris, Alan, Dave E are all still about and have always been , playing records and doing events I left London in the late 90s and moved back to Wales to be a record collecting hermit , which is what suits me.
  12. I used to go to Kings Cross on a Sunday played records there a few times , I’m on this attached flyer on march 28th I imagine this was 1991 or 1992 great memories Chris is a nice bloke , so is Alan H , in fact all that crowd were great it was a great end to weekend you deffo should have given the 100 club a few more try’s
  13. Mine is a virtue press see scan always loved the 45 Teardrops is nice aswel
  14. And the fact that the bluesbusters version of this song was massive on the Belgium popcorn scene and was re issued by EMI in 1980
  15. I don’t know the origins of the yellow Byron Lee credited 45 it did get a ep release as Keith and Ken on Kapp in France
  16. Yes I had to pay a bit more that the price when released of the 2 records I posted I’m on their e mail list now so hopefully get on em early in future
  17. Im impressed with kimberlite So far no re presses due to NS demand So far a proper ghetto label I love what they do ! any further info on this Canadian record label ? These 2 45s are in my opinion fantastic big shout to these people !
  18. Yes fair play there is 5 copies strange !!!!!
  19. larry williams - strange great record that has disappeared for sale online and sits in collections as its a fantastic moody soul / rnb record lydia marcell just another kind of fella is an amazing new orleans soul 45 I always guessed that this release was why Gerri Hall didn't get released on Sue as they are both Walter Quezergue latest releases (check nola release lists) and Im guessing Guy just had to picke one. there is only one or two nola usa release 45s known to exist of this rare record - I have heard a well known DJ in Stoke has a copy. And the Sue uk release has disappeared And both of these records have had little Northern Soul exposure regarding plays by DJs So my opinion is these two are woth keeping once you snag them
  20. Tricky to find The Jaybirds The Right Kind for sale these days due to it being a fantastic uk only dancer
  21. Yes but On Sotoplay imprint
  22. That’s a decent tune, but the record I remember had loads of horn breaks and was a bit more uptempo I always thought it was a version of the blues standard but it could be a version of this listening to this Thanks for that
  23. Back in the mid 80s as a young Mod lad in North Wales I used to attend local events in North Wales run by "North Wales Soul Club" Great days - my great friend Rich Buckley and I cut out teenage Soulful teeth at these local North Wales nights. There were a couple of different venues, one being a venue called TTs Nightclub which was part of the ancient Abergele Castle buildings, really different. The events were organised (I Think) by Mark Speakman and, Chico, Mark Speakman, Chico, Phil Blacknell and Chris Fenny DJing mainly with the odd guest. So a favourite of mine that used to get played at the venue was "one room country shack" which was introduced as Charles Perry or Charles Berry It was a great up tempo RnB Soul version, I loved it, So 40 years have passed and I have searched for "one room country shack" and have never ever been able to find out who or what it was. I imagine it was a cover up played off a studio acetate or something. My question is - Who actually played this record and who was it by ? Was it a one off studio acetate ? Does anyone remember this record being played? I never heard it played anywhere else. Anyone have any clues ? I would love to know what it was and who played it.
  24. I would be interested to hear the AI output of something everyone knows like maybe Sam Fletchers I’d think it over Then listen to the results and see what turns up
  25. The wgumcd side must have been a studio version recorded separately The b side has different production credits (Moses Dillard) if they were both recorded live at the same time they would have the same production wouldn’t they
