  1. Cheers guys! Getting there!! Some B Sides to fill in (Will hunt these down) So we're left with: 143 / 150 / 153 / 154 / 193 I know there's the Joneses - Love Contest b/w Baby There's Nothing You Can Do - Number anyone? Personal Touch number? And 703 in the 700 series..... Not started on the 3000 series as yet - if anyone wants the list will mail or post? ATB Rich
  2. I'm assuming the 700 series is the start of the label? Assuming the 100 series started at 101 - Little Eva - Mama Said / ? Missing numbers - 102 / 143 / 153 / 154 / 177 / 180 - 183 / 186 - 188 / 196 / 200? Then I'm guessing the 3000 series?? Cheers Sebastian Rich
  3. Manhattans - Its Gonna Take A Lot To Bring Me Back (Deluxe 115) Nice nice NICE!!!!! Albert Washington - Somewhere Down The Line (Deluxe 135) Thumper! Think I got a Dee Dee Joseph & David - City Called Loneliville b/w Devil Made Me Do It - Can't think how it goes tho! Rich
  4. C'mon Steve!! First thoughts were maybe a Fatback track lurking somewhere ( Their ' If You Could Turn Into Me ' is quite a nice slowie /ballad ) Street People ? Haven't seen one on Spring Sebastian - what number? Great group - have their Vigor 45s and LP Am trying to put together a Spring discog - have most of the 100 series - still missing quite a few. Any one with a complete discog? Baz - Any luck on that Millie - House For Sale US 45 - Still not seen one - !! ATB Rich OK - just found a Spring 45 mentioned - I Wanna Get Over? Rich
  5. Agreed Baz - Have a few bits on this label too - Pat Lundy / Reuben Bell / Manhattans etc Will check the racks later . I'd assume the discog is pretty big. There is quite a bit of R&R /Doo Wop on the lable. Will have a dig around. Seem to recall - Golden Bond - I Know Its All Over - been a nice bit o soul1 Dan Brantley / Gloria Edwards / Vicki Anderson / Donnie Elbert / good thread! ATB Rich
  6. Think what Steve might be implying , and he does state ' it seems KNOWN rarities are still demanding money ' - that the market / demand is bigger than ever for the established rarities / classics? Steve may correct me on this but I think he might be saying that there are many many great and good 45s out there without the price tags that are worth chasing and are worthy of more exposure? This is a time old argument about newies / underplayed etc etc. I think Steve is promoting his ethos on collecting and standing firm by it -nowt wrong with that! We all know there are more copies of certain 45s out there - but , and it is to the detrement of those who cannot afford fave 45s - once a price is established it tends to run with it. Maybe not for ever for a certain period of time. Re. Cashmeres disc - A mate of mine on a US buying trip , ooh about 12 years ago - found a couple. Guy walks into his shop - gets chatting -and sells it for £500. Over paid? Maybe at the time, but he offered the cash and that was what he was prepared to pay. He seemed the ' catch up collecting/come into money" type of collector Steve mentions. Same sh*t different gravy! Rich
  7. ============================================================== I thought RC had closed ? And was only doing mail order? Hope not - bloody excellent shop.. Second hand wise - Cheapo Cheapo records (off Leicester Sq I think) - if its still there there (was) masses of LPs/12s to wade thru - Theres a lot of crap but me and a couple of mates used to pull some great 70s LPs outta there. Rich
  8. ================================================================= Nooooooooo!!! Ah well - Another one for y'all - at work at mo - but picked this up on ebay a while back for a fiver - Soundclip at JM & Soulclub... McKinley Mitchell - No Love b/w Town I Live In - Sleazy R&B backed with a classic! I count a ONEDERFUL / TODDLIN TOWN / PRESIDENT / MIDAS & CHIMNEYVILLE release on same song. Presume the Chimneyville is a later cut? Will have to check but is this a record for a 45 on different labels? ATB Rich
  9. ================================================================== Cheers Mikey, but I have it Nice to know someone is finding decent soul 45s (bad nick or not!) at boot fairs! ATB Rich
  10. https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/marvlus.htm https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/onederful.htm https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/mpac.htm ALL Otis Clays 45s are invaluable to me - Harold Burrage / McKinley Mitchell / Cicero Blake (LOVE this guy!) - Above links to Dave's excellent discographies - A fantastic set of labels from ballads / group deep / R&B / Northern etc - If anyone doesn't have Robert Pruters excellent book on Chicago soul I highly reccommend it. I have a couple of CD's of the label inc. the aforementioned goldmine one and (I think!) a Charley comp one too. Considering the output of the label - Has there been or is there to be any unissued material (Can't remember if the Cd's had any on).Any ideas? Rich
  11. Cheers Baz Must confess never seen a US 'House For Sale'... A few more to add... Millie Jackson - There You Are (Spring 164) - Yes Dave F - A right belter! Brilliant! Joe Simon - I've Got A jones On You (Spring 178) Joe Simon - Theme From Cleopatra Jones (Spring 138) Joe Simon - I Found My Dad b/w Trouble In My Home ( Spring 130) - really like this one! Cheers Rich
  12. ================================================================== Is there much in the 'can' re. Spring Ady? Cheers. Rich
  13. Hi Eddie Will check on the above - Have a pile of Joe / Millie 45s to go thru - Just one of those labels I've not paid too much attention to! Why I dont know... Thanks again Rich
  14. Like many on here I have a fair broad collection - stemming from my mod days in my teens buying up 60s Hammond Instrumentals / Boogaloo etc (Now called 60s funk...) to being a predominatly 70s buyer Sweet / Deep / Group etc. My church is big enough to let all in as long as it sounds good to me! Inside the genre of funk though you have splits /diversity just as you have in soul music. There's the obvious (to me anyhow) 'political' funk - coming from the post Martin Luther K era - Without going into 'Freebasing' mode - A lot of funk has that ' Busting out of the Ghetto ' message carried across to a increasingly marginalised black community in the late 60s/early 70s. There is a certain strength to the music just as Marvin Gayes ' Whats Going On LP. I'm no social anthropoligist but you catch you my drifter... Also you have the dance craze / jam type stuff - OK some of it sounds like it was recorded in a tin shed on a raint day but surely this is what draws us to unknown / under appreciated / rare and obscure little 7 inch plastci things! But this type of stuff was/is an extension of the 60s instrumentals that lie in many peoples collections. Bring up a classic set list of Mod stuff from the mid /late 80s and the relationship between that and what constitutes been on funk playlists is clear to me. Funk , just like soul has evolved. Many ' Crossover ' soul / funk 45s now nestle in many a collection. I agree to a certain point that the funk scene seems to a bit transinet, but ' northern soul ' became trendy again but the hardcore music lovers will always remain! Oh yes and in my 60s only days - flicking thru racks of US 45s at record fais in Roundhay - How many post 67 45s did I pass over - ' funk?? Nah..I'll leave it mate.....DOH! ATB Rich
  15. Thanks to all for the tips.. Will play thru the Spring stack tonight- hopefully pull out some others - Will attempt a discog if there isnt one about - Of course just seen the Kent Spring comp (shoulda looked there!) . . Thanks to Dave F for the Act 1 LP tip - Also am I right that Millies ' House For Sale ' didnt get a US Spring release but a UK one???? Bit of a mystery to me if it didn't. Cheers guys - keep em coming! ATB Rich
  16. Hi Garv Have the first two Millies - just trying to eek out some faves from others - Seems like a pretty big catalogue - Must be some faves / sleepers in there! Cheers Rich
  17. Afternoon ! Picking up on Baz's label faves posts... PIcked up Millie Jacksons - Ask Me What You Want ( SS tip! Thanks!) Also picked up Eddie McLoyd - Once You Fall In Love & a batch of Joe Simon / Millie 45s (Yet to play thru) Know there is a lot of Millie/Fatback/Simon 45s on the label- Anyone have any faves / underplayed / criminally ignored from these artists? Anything else you rave over on the label? ATB Rich
  18. Not entirely sure myself on these - Had a look around the net - Don't see anything so assume pretty hard! Pat Cooleys - Only seen the Ichiban 45s about recently - But also interested if anyone has a Future Stars / Cat / Alston discographies ? ATB Rich
  19. https://www.soulfulkindamusic.net/ovide.htm See above for discography Baz; Faves on here include Seb Williams - Get Your Point Over (Superb and on the up!) Bobo Mr Soul - Hitchhike To Heartbreak Road (Brill southern beater!) Great label. Rich
  20. Tis that Karen! Uk Label Dome is always worth a visit too - plus of course Expansion - their Friends In High PLaces comps from a few years back are worth checking - And of course on Uk Expansion - Dennis Austins - ' I'll Shine For You ' - Magic stuff! ATB Rich
  21. ================================================================ Seens as we're on that Soul / Gospel tip - How about ' Don't Give Up' Island Inspirational All Stars - Which i think includes sadi Mr Franklin! Rich
  22. Its funk! and yuk!
  23. ================================================================ Hi Miff You should be able to get it on 12 pretty easy - Another one I can highly reccommend by them is: If Only You Could Be Mine (Also available on 12) Don't see the LP about too often - Have sold quite a bit of this UK Soul over to Japan in the last couple of years. Some very under-rated stuff IMHO. ATB Rich
  24. ================================================================= Too right! Couple to add: I Believe Everything Is Gonna Be Alright All should be able toi be had for less than a fiver - Can't fail with them! From the ' From Africa to America ' LP I think! The period of late 80s to mid 90s - Esp. from the UK saw IMO some great music - Affair / Paul Johnson / etc etc Labels such as Boogie Back etc. Across the board indeed. ATB Rich
  25. Kinda what I thought Steve - Cheers anyway! Rich
