  1. 4.7k I think. Not as much as some thought?
  2. About 2.5k wasn't it??
  3. Price now reduced to £50. So in theory your £5 offer Pete should now be 50p.... Maybe he was a tad over zealous on the zero button.. Ooops Sorry Sheldonsoul didn't see your edit.
  4. Ebay really for the 'retro' ones is your best bet - there are a few that go through. Though it does surprise me some enterprising soul hasn't had some of the more retro types manufactured - Even if its just the small 50/80 count boxes.
  5. The Thelma Jones LP is superb for the Salty Tears & How Long tracks. Winners! And for 5 quid! THELMA JONES - SALTY TEARS - CBS - THELMA JONES - HOW LONG - Rich

  10. Personally think the rare groove thing in the 90s did this very well. Brand New Heavies , Young Diciples etc mixed up with 70s soul/funk/jazz etc. My own, and indeed quite a few others early entrance into the whole rare soul thing came about from listening to Tamla/Stax etc. The more commercial side of soul. No reason why certain nights that have that (commercial) crossover appeal can do the same with the soul scene with some imaginative dj line ups - cross promoting more 'rare' nights and exposing people to the 'other' side. What are we really looking for? People to continue the northern oldies scene or just the rare soul scene in general? Once we 'hook' people in they can choose whatever path or paths they like as we all have done over the years. Lets not get pigeon hole - just get on with promoting the longevity of what is one of the greatest genres of music that has ever been produced. What better than for someone to say I love that Eli Paper Boy track then hear a say Invictus/Motown 45 and say I love that too!!!! There are many ways into this great music and none should ever be discounted. All avenues should be open without compromise and everybody has their part to play in the continuance of this scene.

  13. Is that true of all 2 room allnighters then? If it is I'll shut up! If it isn't..........
  14. You know one of THE worst things said to me was when attending the Bradford allnighters early 90s (my first allnighters as a 16 year old) was a good friend telling me to forget that bollocks modern room etc. Not 60s blah blah... Ignoring that 'advice' i got to see Lew Kirton and my mind opened to a whole new spectrum of soul. Now..I'm not saying that applies to everyone BUT for longevity I can see it as the way forward at the very least keeping both minds and scenes 'open' . Will oldies/pure northern nights die out? I very much doubt it but I can see a northern/modern scene having longer legs. Blinkered approaches to music could lead to decline. I look at the playlists of our scandanavian soul cousins and see a future.
  15. But to quote an entirely different genre of music is just as much missing the point is it not? And if you like both why shouldn't there be a an event that plays both? No reason? Come on ... your putting an awful lot of people out of the scene with statements like that.
  16. Know what your saying Dave and whatever has happened to the room at Stoke may happen at other venues but just thought the statement verged on the ridiculous! Like you and many others I'm 'across the board' - so I'm guessing there are venues to support that ethos/belief which you would then back up by attending. the scene is fragmented enough - and that can be a positive thing - to give punters what they want but to say what Golden101 wrote well to me is just plain daft.
  17. But thats a ridiculous statement is it not? And rather sweeping no? Just because it doesn't happen for Kings Hall Stoke doesn't mean thats the 'rule'.
  18. Ernie. It pains me to say it - As a Forest fan - but £35 for that Masqueraders.. Someone buy it. Beautiful BEAUTIFUL soul 45. May the best team win.... (crosses fingers!)

  20. Doesn't answer what is an alarming (and bloody expensive!) predicament for a few collectors though does it? Rich
  21. The fact that Sebastian puts sound clips - scans of both sides of the label - a quick review of the disc plus great service must help but other than that I'm amazed. $100 for Jeff Perry too! Do like the way his pages are layed out!
  22. Yep agree with above Steve = most of the above aren't on the list (Wasn't sure about a couple). Some great new suggestions and will update tomorrow due to having a very long day working. Agree on the Garland Green tho. Not a headache at all more back ache from todays merriment of a days hard graft! Thanks to evreryone so far! Rich

  24. So are we right to include GC as 'recorded for another label but remained unissued until Flamingo released it? ' Percy Stone gained a release on a 45 but remained 'promo only' on Grapevine so would think not for inclusion here. (Thanks Brett - Chinese went well but Tofu is a f*c*k*r to cook well!) Amending list now. Rich
  25. Absolutely Eddie - Was trying to find a list of Goldmine 45s that warranted inclusion and asked the question re. the Connioseurs label. Many thanks and will update in a tad (cooking chinese for 4 at mo) and will update later if no objections from anyone? Also - I know the bulk of these 45s are issued from UK sources - Have any of the US ( or anywhere!) got anything from their respective countries? Rich
