  1. It's a grower and sounds fab over a venue system, I can assure you! Reminds me of Willy MacDougall, vocally...and that brass and organ work is stinging!
  2. For reference: Anita also came out on UK CBS. (As to whether it is a different take/mix/recording quality...I'll leave that to you to investigate, eh Tony?! )
  3. From the title I thought this thread was gonna be on about the backing singers on Paris', 'Sleepless nights'.
  4. I once had this on a tape c/up many moons ago as, 'This is my prayer'. Just gotta try and remember who did the tape for me now! (There was also a copy for sale on here within the last six months.)
  5. 'ere you go Russ, my friend...this one gets me nodding my head and scratching my chin: R'n'B meets Funky bassline coupled with awesome brasswork AND an organ! >>> Download Here <<<
  6. About the same as the value of the Everton squad, Mel...about £40
  7. Isn't there also a plain orangey label lookalike stock copy bootleg with no pressing stamps at all?
  8. I assumed (dangerous I know!) that it was indeed Ms.Ravan, rather than the infamous Drum'n'bass dogg! Thanks for the confirmation.
  9. Thoroughly enjoyed the show with John...thanks chaps.

Was a regular Soul Bowl Soul Pack piece a decade and a half before that, and also a front-page-special below £4 week in week out. Never seen a WD. Great track!
  11. They are Pye UK recordings licensed out to Atco US...and MFP...'Production and Supervision: Jimmy James & Peter Meaden'.
  12. By sheer coincidence I found JJ and the V's LP on Atco over the weekend...superb LP it is too (Come softly to me' - Atco SD 33-222). The sleeve note states, 'When they finally cracked through one sizzling, roaring night at the Birdcage Club in the city of Portsmouth, after two rough, hard years on the road there was no stopping them'. It also mentions that Doris Troy, Madeline Bell and Goldie (?) helped out on vocals on the LP. Now, should I file it or sell it?!

Anyone got an MP3 they can PM me of the other version utilising the same backing track (as the Modern 45), albeit by a different artist and with a defo dodgy lyric?
  14. I Love another one of his Togo 45's, 'Believe it or not'...on opaque light-blue vinyl too!

I may be dreaming as it is many moons since I had copies to compare directly, but isn't the drumming on the St.Clair copies harsher/better than the HBR release?

2305 - also came out on Calla. 2307 - yep have had stock copies.
  17. Also issued in Japan as a 7"...with 'Cupid' as the flip.
  18. Both look legit to me. Colours often appear different on scans of varying quality. No idea which was first...was T.Terry added after being incorrectly omitted, or was the credit removed as it shouldn't have been there...vote now people! (I reckon the former.) After that, let's revisit as to which Edward Hamilton 'Baby don't you weep' copy came out first...the one with and without M.Terry on 'em?!
  19. Any chance of a memory-joging scan of this one, Sean?
  20. Have PM'ed you. Oddly enough I stumbled across a copy last Friday...played it as it had been a while, but it didn't float my boat, so left it.

It is featured on the Japanese P-Vine LP, 'Got to find a way' from 1979 (I thought it was a little later too, Sean!). Great album also featuring, 'I don't know what to do'. I have a spare copy if you want it, Carol...PM me.
  22. Wasn't there a Peter Sellers comedy, which featured an instrumental of Mel Williams', 'Promises, promises, promises'? I seem to recall a scene in a mountain chalet, probably in the Alps, when the tune was played?
  23. Clyde McPhatter - Lonely people can afford to cry - Amy EDIT: Yep it is Freddie not Clyde. I got all excited about the, 'Neither will I' extract.
  24. Any chance of label scans to illustrate the difference? Must admit his other Blue Jay 45 is miles better...but no T.Terry on that one...blue stock or WD.
  25. Seems we posted at the same time, Tony! Fools seldom differ!
