  1. A lesser known disc from this Soul master...cracking uptempo Northern dance track
  2. Note the version Pat originally played as 'Robbie Lawson' was from an acetate, and is actually a different take to the Padded Cell 45.
  3. When one starts off a new thread there are two boxes to type in...in this case: 'Topic Title' : David Ruffin 'Topic Description': Hurt the one you love When viewing on an iphone, all that can be seen is the Topic Title, so the reader has no idea what David Ruffin track you are after, without opening the thread and hoping someone actually mentions the title.
  4. Here's the Japanese 7" (surprisingly rare) and LP (pretty tough too!)...and a US 7" test press (RCA machine stamped - vinyl).
  5. Any chance of a scan? I've been a Latin music fan a fair few years...had access to the entire Fania, Tico, Cotique, Allegre vaults back in the mid-8T's...needless to say I put in a rather large promo request which was readily supplied! Their (printed) catalogue at that point was wonderful and still contained some cracking titles! The Venezuelan re-presses (wafer-thin vinyl, but sounded OK) were awash in London during those times too...all the stores had them in quantity (via Sterns?) and I picked up one of everything via Tower, Mr.Bongo, Honest Jons etc, who were all on my round as a Charly rep. I also used to pick up many an original LP on my travels to all the jazz stores all over London/South, taking the Boogaloo as well as the killah jazz-dance big-band titles...love some of Machito's material! I actually had some compilations ready to roll via Charly, but I left the company before they came to fruition...shame! One of my fave memories from these years was a concert we went to with Celia Cruz...she had the 1500 strong audience eating out of her hands, and it really was a sight to see as the crowd swayed to the rhythms like a rolling sea...fabulous!
  6. Big fan of this one as well Took me ages to work out one part of the lyric, '...wearing a cellophane disguise...'
  7. Oddly enough part of my job role is to employ teachers!!
  8. Oddly enough the industry term for doing this is/was to 'dink' a disc! I recall when I worked for HMV there was an old cast iron 'dinker' machine...kinda looked like a big stapler and was very simple to use...you placed the disc in it, lined it up and then thumped down on the top of the dinker to knock the middle out. ANyone got a picture of one?
  9. That's the one...changed name a few times...I'm sure Hippo will recall as he probably DJ'ed there in some capacity over the years!?
  10. I remember the Gloucester Music & Disco center as well! My local YC was in Longlevens, Gloucester...talking '76/'77 and the 'big lads and lasses' made us young ones leave the dancefloor so they could shake their things to the following before disappearing off to some club up North that started at midnight (soooooo mysterious and intersting to a young would be anorak!): Interplay Like Adam & Eve We got together At the top of the stairs ...and later still at Cinderellas (remember that one, Mikey?!) in '81: You're ready now Loving is really my game Like her This is the house (PattiB) Love on a mountain top ...and then there was a night when I took along Dena Barnes and the Majestics (OVO of course!)
  11. As far as I'm aware, Carl has 'only' one WD...came via Shifty I am green with envy as this one still eludes me on a WD....Carl if you're reading this you know I deserve the chance to own it too!
  12. There were a fair few at-the-time releases on ABC Japan 7"...lots from the Impressions, both O'Kaysions already pictured on US 45s in this thread amongst others...but the pick of the bunch is the Sapphires 'Gotta have your love'...I only know of two copies within collections over here!
  13. I HIGHLY recommend the Kent CD of his Okeh material, featuring alternate takes and unissued instrumentals.
