  1. Well, if the two people who have it know their stuff, and you've been digging for two years on the net / UK...plus someone Stateside has been scrapping around, maybe the stock is no longer in the States? Hmm...maybe they all got vacuumed up and shipped off to a far off land many years ago...oh I don't know somewhere like Japan maybe?! Drop me a PM Pete and I'll have a poke around over here without revealing it to UK based folk!
  2. I also always had this one down as a tough WD...so you can imagine the grin on my face when I found this one whilst out digging in amongst all the R'n'B bits?!
  3. As I recall, the Southern Artists and Bell recordings are indeed the same. The recording used by Kent are from different takes...I think there is also an original Bell acetate of one of those alternate stripped-down takes?
  4. I flogged you a demo of that little puppy too...are you trying to corner the market on them?! Flipping stunning, rumbling, sinister stuff of a tune!
  5. I have a Lada Edmund Jr. 'The Larue' on a Decca WD
  6. I've got a stone mint copy...and dare I say it is a demo, as 'some jokers' have rubber stamped 'Thank You, Don & Bernie'. The anoraks amongst you will be able to work out who these 'jokers' are.
  7. I've been a BIG fan of his recordings since I first got into this thing of ours. I particularly love his (their) Swan recordings and still have a few WDs filed away on the 'keepers' shelves! Oddly enough just last night I was scanning a load of Japanese labels for my never ending book project, and pulled a couple of his Invictus discs out...I'd forgotten I had a rather nice WD of 'GMJALMT'...left it out to spin when I had time this weekend! I also have fond memories of receiving a cassette (those were the days!) of Minit label out takes way back when I was with Charly Records. Fortunately almost the entire recording session for, 'The Wrong Girl' remained and to hear them constructing it and trying out new bits and indeed speeds (the uptempo version thumps along!) was spine tingling to say the least, as the quality of the sound reproduction and their crisp vocals was faultless! Yep, a vocal that stood out from the rest and will also stand the test of time. RIP, sir.
  8. I respect anyone who is passionate about a subject, be it vinyl, scooters or clothes etc. I also know that the Mod, Northern and Scooter scenes will always evolve around each other....and that is great...but...I'm slightly surprised that no one has raised the fact there was often friction (and the occasional punch up) involving the Army-green wearing Scooterists at the Hinckley Leisure Center nighters back in the mid-8T's...usually alcohol fuelled?
  9. Well, apart from those already mentioned and the following well-documented tough WD's - Magnetics (WIWMB), Precisions (SAS), Junior McCants (TMFYNL), Jesse Davis (TRFM), Tony Clarke (LS), John Bowie (YGMAGT), Herman Lewis (WKYT) and Eddie Parker (LYB), I'd also like to offer up the following which are very, very tough to find as WD's...but do exist: Gene Woodbury - Ever Again - Del Val Falcons - I'm A Fool I Must Love You - Big Wheel Del Larks - Out Of The In Crowd - Jet Willie Johnson - I Can't See Myself - Future Stars (feat. both sides, but more on the Deep than Northern side of Soul) If you want to spread the net wider to include non-US releases, well I've got some Japnese WDs that would knock you off your feet...another time, another thread maybe!
  10. ...and here are three nice Jet Star label demos: 'What's Your Problem baby' needs more spins...love that phurping sax within it! My demos of #116 and #117 are on coloured vinyl...one is clear brown the other the more regular yellow.
  11. Here are his three Japanese releases on London
  12. True. I always had his discs in my collection, and even saw him live at one of the Blackpool/Fleetwood weekenders, but it wasn't until I put his Kent CD in the car on one holiday drive that I truely appreciated his talents!! Sooooo many great recordings covering various Soul styles, as Shinehead states. (Oddly enough this is one of the few Kent CDs where the sleevenote could do with being more informative and longer.) I'll scan his couple of Japanese 7" releases this week to add to this thread.
  13. Four in total that I'm aware of >>> Cleveland Robinson <<< I recall Manship auctioned a pink label copy the other year (much to my/others surprise!)...anyone recall what it achieved?
  14. Another typical, powerful and super-strong Vidalia production
  15. Can't recall seeing the distribution deal mentioned on Quinvy labels, but here are a couple of South Camp variants:
  16. Here's a couple from the Drifters...so many great tracks from those guys; then my fave two from the Soul Brothers Six (West Coast promos).
  17. Hi Tony, It is an established Oldie/Classic from the 7Ts (Mecca before Casino - someone will confirm), that was also bootlegged at the time. The original has a Nashville Matrix machine stamp in the deadwax. I've always had a soft-spot for it...like the flipside too!
  18. So, the Sultans on Ascot, has it settled down and established a price tag yet?
  19. Thought the version on the CD was the light-blue labelled (#1006) version with no bongos/harmonica? Must admit I like all the versions...the bongos/harmonica fit well on the pink label (#1011) version.
  20. You're correct, it ain't on there...in my database I have a question mark against the cover up artist name...agree with the title though! So, was it defo the 'Johnny Adams Band'...if yes am more than happy to add it on finally. (The Revlons was on the list, mind!)
  21. An ex GuyH spin at Stafford...I had it down as Robert Bateman 'Don't Give Up' on a Bell acetate? As I recall the original acetate isn't in the best of shape either.
  22. Not true I've had stone mint copies which played perfectly with zero background noise
