Not sure if I'm mis-reading the wording, but both the Little Iva on Miracle and Majestics on VIP exist on vinyl...so not unissued.

I wouldn't say it was 'ever so slightly' different...it is a lot different to the Strata take! Interesting and very rare yes, but soundwise it is firmly in the Garage camp, rather than Northern.

I'm also partial to a couple of his ballads with a beat...'The Sinner' and 'The Willow', the latter of which I have on a Japanese MGM 7"...and yes Roy actually sings it in Japanese!

Also came out on an original Jamaican RCA 7"...rare!

Can recommend this dancer for sure...on the New Orleans R'n'B tip, naturally! Flipside is a decent enough ballad as well.

Another Obrey Wilson double-sider...not particularly well-known but certainly recommended to those liking Popcorn/Northern mid-tempo tunage.

Guilty your Honor! This was my cover up...really Bernard Harper on Action Records (Texas?). This is what I wrote about it in Shades Of Soul back in 2000: Took me a couple of plays to get into this a few years back, but it's definitely one of my favourite discs nowadays. I have been dee jaying with it recently under the guise of "Billy Arnell - The greatest story ever told", so now you know the truth. A chugging nagging beat, with a simple yet strong sounding production, without the aid of any added brass or strings or kitchen sinks! The chopping lead guitar and swirling organ play the major parts, as Bernard tells his ex that he's over her, "I never thought that I could face you again, after I was so hurt". He's strong as, "now you can even flirt 'cause I've found me a love so strong", and more than that, "it's better than the greatest story ever told". That put her in her place. "I'm not gonna lose it, no matter how good you look to me". Never seen or heard of another copy, but I'm not saying that it's a one off, but it definitely deserves to be more well known and loved. Come and hear it at The Dome! The recording in Refosoul has been pitched up a touch, and yes there is another version (different label), but the vocal is pretty weak imo.

I for one, much prefer the percussion laden take, which is the easier of the two discs to pick up The stripped down take exposes her vocals and make it sound poppy, and less powerful...imo

I've gone through all the Japanese 60's record company catalogues and label listings, so I kinda know what came out over here...which spoils the digging fun a bit...but...there are always a few missing numbers between the yearly listings, so there is always hope for other juicy pieces! My addition to this thread would be Bettye Swann - Make Me Yours on a Japanese press...not in any label listings, but rumoured to exist on a a promo copy with no picture cover!

The translation doesn't confirm or deny it's existance. The writer says that TSF was Don's 2nd release on Quinvy and that he hadn't heard the A side (not on the Quinvy 45) and wanted to, due to the Joe Tex connections.

Volumes on Pama...will believe it when I see it...but...it would not suprise me if it existed/exists on a plain white Pama test press. The Shades Of Soul fanzine scan is a 100% fake...as were a few other oddball labels featured in another issue...had me searching for a few for years until someone owned up to the scam! Finally, to throw the cat back amongst the pigeons, let us note that Harry Balk licensed product all over the world from his stable...look at this...the Volumes on London, Japanese London...VERY rare:
