Jackie Hill on Mar-Brit. Dee Clark's is the best version to my ears...in fact I almost included it on a Charly LP/CDcompilation, but I went for 'That's My Girl' instead as I thought it would appeal to more folks...and it did it seems as that track got a lot of scene exposure for a year or two...not that I'm taking credit mind...blimey I'm sounding like Tony Rounce!?!

Dorothy Berry - (I Say) You're Driving Me Crazy
Anoraks Corner replied to a topic in Look At Your Box
I see this around in Japan quite often...both variations...and sadly I have no idea as to why there are different titles! Both do feature the exact same track in the grooves...a what a great solid slab of R'n'B complete with fog-horn sax break it is! This track goes hand in hand with stable mate recordings from Jimmy Norman - 'I Don't Love You No More' and 'You Crack Me Up' (also on Polo Records). Both these tracks also feature the trademark fog-horn and the instrumental breaks are similar. Indeed, DorothyB's lyric name checks JimmyN's IDLYNM and is kinda like an answer-song to his track. Seriously love all three tracks...won't break the bank to own all three either! -
Kenny Carter - I've Gotta get Myself Together / Showdown - RCA Super-soulful track...tough on a stock copy! Condition is M-...vinyl/labels both sides £125 SOLD + P&P...£UK cheque or bank transfer (IBAN available)

Ray And Blue Satin - She Doesnt Love Me - Arv International
Anoraks Corner replied to a topic in Look At Your Box
Credit where credit is due I for one, have always admired your taste/DJ selection over the years -
I really enjoyed Keith Rylatt and Phil Scott's, 'Central 1179' - all about the Twisted Wheel club. Not pure NS per se, but an impressive piece on one of the groundbreaking clubs at the root of the NS scene to come. Well put together...fabulous memorabilia shots coupled with comprehensive facts and info.

Ray And Blue Satin - She Doesnt Love Me - Arv International
Anoraks Corner replied to a topic in Look At Your Box
I always had it down as one from your stable, Kitch...as 'Carl Hall', as pointed out earlier I used to play it a fair bit at the Capitol Soul Club as well Have seen stock copies and demos, and there is a factory bag for that period ARV too...sold a copy for £600 last year -
I've only ever had/seen grey/white label copies...are there any blue one or proper label stated demos as well? Shame her vocal is lost in the mix.
-
Also gained a release on Japanese Deram complete with picture sleeve...rare!
-
Every NS collector must have at least one Mirwood disc in their collection, surely!?! I bet most of us have collected the label to some degree as well!?! Here's a couple of WDs...and dare I sneak the Mira number in whilst I'm here!?!

I used to think that until the guy who used to cut my acetates said otherwise. He reckoned the second hole denotes that the disc is not 100% perfect in some way (not 100% flat, bumps in the actete etc) and that it shouldn't be used as a master, but only as a sample to play. Every acetate machine I've seen in operation had a suction cup to hold the disc in place as it was cutting, rather than having a second spindle. Not saying either if us is wrong or right...anyone else want to express an opinion? Great track, by the way...very CJ.

...and if you don't like her vocal...or indeed Al's, try this for size: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLNW-Rfryq8 C'mon, sing-a-long now!

Malaco Records - (Including Malaco Studio Productions)
Anoraks Corner replied to 45cellar's topic in Look At Your Box
I used to sell Malaco product when I was at Charly, where they had a distribution deal during the 80's and early 90's. I say sell, but the truth was outside of London they hardly sold into the shops at all, let alone sell off the shelves. Sometimes we'd only bring in x100 copies of a LP title...UK based stores just weren't interested even on CD. Shame, some cracking stuff hidden on some LPs. -
Record Store Day: New Kent Limited Edition Vinyl Ep
Anoraks Corner commented on an article in News Archives
Just for Tonys reference, thought you'd be pleased to know that stock of the Fame 7" EP made it to Tokyo for Record Store Day!! Still copies on the shelf...I'll wait for them to go into the sale! -
Wow! Not had this one before...The Capitols over looked Detroit dancer, 'I Got To Handle it' on a French Atco 45 (not EP)...with an art cover! Sound reproduction is loud and crisp...nice! I have the book of French EP releases/covers, but not seen a listing for the 45's...had the Loretta Williams', 'Baby Cakes' and Ben E.King 'I Can't Break The News...', so what else NS-wise made it to a one- track- per-side 7" 45 over in France? Merci bien!
