  1. Simply original unsold stock, shipped to Japan during the 70's, still in their original packing boxes, stuck gathering dust in a warehouse...which is why a large amount of the discs I sell are in such fabulous condition It is indeed my mission to liberate such discs and set them free...and I've gone out literally EVERY weekend for the last four years doing this...a filthy job, but someone has to do it!
  2. Just scnned these before they leave to go to their new owners...a stocker and a WD...and also another good one from them, 'I've got my baby', which is a good bouncy uptempo feel-good dancer of a track.
  3. Open to offers. >>> CLICK HERE <<< Is in excellent condition...bit of writing on label...see scan:
  4. Awesome disc...both sides...defo worthy of further scene exposure. I was lucky enough to find a small quantity of them over here, all mint/unplayed (along with a few Big Daddy Rogers on Midas too!). I didn't really get around to playing the HAP side for a fair while, as the WCYD side is sooo strong, but of late it is the side of choice at Flynn Towers...excellent cross-over feel (with a foot more in the 60's side imo). I have two copies available at £20 each + P&P...and can easily see this one hitting the £75 then £100 even, with just a little exposure. Don'cha just love those sparse looking Chicago labels?!
  5. STOMPER of a tune! All the label variants for the Magicians shown thus far are originals. The yellowy-orangey one is the West Coast 1st press. The light-blue ones with/without the Roman villa picture are East/Mid-West Coast releases, though if there is a difference between the two I don't know! For the demo enthusiasts, there are 'D.J.COPY NOT FOR SALE' variants on both the light-blue designs too! Bought my first blind maaaaaaaany years ago, in those halcyon days when you could pick discs up genuinely cheap (regardless of it being years ago), because they weren't already established oldies. If one recognised the artist, writers, producers, arrangers, or collected the label...or just fancied the look of it...one didn't have to break the bank to buy.
  6. Sold to the lady in the sparkly outfit. I think the vocals on IMT are some of the most expressive put to wax. The fragility of the lead in places is sublime. Never seen/heard of a demo copy mind, more's the pity.
  7. I have a spare for £15 + P&P. Have a look >>> CLICK HERE <<<
  8. For reference, that's the flip to his take on 'Kentucky Bluebird'...great tuneage!
  9. I am a big fan of both Lou and Roy and enjoy both versions...I like the melancholy feel of Lou's take, but Roy's is the superior (vocals and arrangement)...imo. Oddly enough I found the following in a shop the other weekend: LOU JOHNSON-UNSATISFIED-BIG TOP (blue)- £ 15.00 LOU JOHNSON-MAGIC POTION (inst) / THERE'S ALWAYS SOMETHING...-BIG HILL- £ 10.00 LOU JOHNSON-KENTUCKY BLUEBIRD-BIG HILL D- £ 10.00 LOU JOHNSON-IT AIN'T NO USE-HILL TOP- £ 10.00 I'll cover the postage if anyone wants them as a set.
  10. Hi Ian, Long time no see, squire! I found the spare I have in downtown Tokyo for slightly more than 10 or your English pence, and thought it would fly out the door at £50...but it is still sat here...amazing! I often list pieces a lot cheaper than others, all depending on how much I find them for, and I'm happy to then hopefuly turn them around quickly and give folk bargains...kinda like the Pete Smith school of pricing! Maybe folk are worried about ordering a record from Japan, but the courier service I use can take as little as 3 days to a UK doorstep! Take it easy mate, and yes I do see your products on the shelves over here! d.
  11. Sweeping up, the above are all legit originals (the Brenda should be TK4M 5435), as are the Celestrials and Big Ella pictured. The only one that may be a bootleg is the Superlatives, but there have been threads about this one...use the search option for more details about the blue and yellow label variants.
  12. Isn't this a fake someone made up for a dub?

  19. Is it more, or less Northern?
  20. I have a lot to thank Dave for. I was a fan...Chapter.1: Once upon a time, in a land far, far away (from where I live now!) I was a young and impressionable Soulie, and on my first trips to the Casino it was Dave's sets that I would really enjoy (alongside Searling and Rushbrooke). I still have the live-tapes and can recall him playing a diverse set from Billy Prophet through to Chuck Cissell...and come to think of it the Isley Bros' 'Take some time out for love' too, which is still a fave of mine. Hop forward a handful of years to Chapter.2: I was working at an HMV store when in walks Dave, 'Hello! I'm Dave and I'm your Charly Records rep!' Well, I was kinda gobsmacked, as being already a Northern Soulie I was already well aware of who he was! After realising that I knew what I was on about, my then store manager instatntly handed over the ordering of Charly stock to me from that point on! I would see Dave once per month on his visits and we struck up a good rapport...to the point of when Charly were looking to expand, he suggested I went for the position. He was also kind enough to sell me his copy of Howard Guyton...a disc I still treasure today as it graced the Casino decks whilst I, ahem, graced the dancefloor! And then there were three...Chapter.3: I took Dave's advice and went for the position of an albums salesman for Charly back in '85/'86. As it turned out Tony Warot was also going for the same job, but thankfully I got it...which did surprise me as I was still sooo young to be an album salesman (one usually became a singles-hyper, before 'progressing' onto albums). So, I therefore ended up working alongside Dave and indeed Brian Rae, who was also working there at the time...three Northern Soulies working for the same outfit! Very happy times! Record Hunting with Dave...Chapter.4: I recall sitting in on one of Dave's Signal Radio shows during my first week at Charly, when I went out with him to 'see how selling was done'! I crashed with Guy Hennigan for a few days and went out on the road with Dave on his round of record stores, and I think it was on the second day we hit Birmingham. Being the Soulies we were, he introduced me to paying visits to non-existing accounts 'in search of new business', which basically meant going to collector's stores in search of Northern! I did well at one place (Discery or Rays, can't recall) and found a Charles Anthony on Film Town, an Edward St.Ann on USA and a James Bryant on Renee for £20 the lot (or a lot less, certainly no more than £20). The evenings around Guy's were fun with discs all over the place...he played me Bunny Shivel ('Top Twenty'), which I liked and indeed he started to play it at Stafford over the coming months, but I digress. Epilogue: I recall when Dave's son Josh was born, and noting how proud he was...he was walking on cloud nine with stories of how Josh would play for Stoke City one day! He was so proud and inspiring in his approach to fatherhood. I don't get to see Dave much nowadays, but on the rare occasions we do bump into each other we have lots to reminisce about and I echo previous member's comments in that Dave is genuine and a great bloke...and is a legend on this scene of ours. If you're reading this Dave, keep on keeping on, mate and thanks for everything. Respect.
