  1. By sheer coincidence I found JJ and the V's LP on Atco over the weekend...superb LP it is too (Come softly to me' - Atco SD 33-222). The sleeve note states, 'When they finally cracked through one sizzling, roaring night at the Birdcage Club in the city of Portsmouth, after two rough, hard years on the road there was no stopping them'. It also mentions that Doris Troy, Madeline Bell and Goldie (?) helped out on vocals on the LP. Now, should I file it or sell it?!
  2. Anyone got an MP3 they can PM me of the other version utilising the same backing track (as the Modern 45), albeit by a different artist and with a defo dodgy lyric?
  3. I Love another one of his Togo 45's, 'Believe it or not'...on opaque light-blue vinyl too!
  4. I may be dreaming as it is many moons since I had copies to compare directly, but isn't the drumming on the St.Clair copies harsher/better than the HBR release?
  5. 2305 - also came out on Calla. 2307 - yep have had stock copies.
  6. Also issued in Japan as a 7"...with 'Cupid' as the flip.
  7. Both look legit to me. Colours often appear different on scans of varying quality. No idea which was first...was T.Terry added after being incorrectly omitted, or was the credit removed as it shouldn't have been there...vote now people! (I reckon the former.) After that, let's revisit as to which Edward Hamilton 'Baby don't you weep' copy came out first...the one with and without M.Terry on 'em?!
  8. Any chance of a memory-joging scan of this one, Sean?
  9. Have PM'ed you. Oddly enough I stumbled across a copy last Friday...played it as it had been a while, but it didn't float my boat, so left it.
  10. It is featured on the Japanese P-Vine LP, 'Got to find a way' from 1979 (I thought it was a little later too, Sean!). Great album also featuring, 'I don't know what to do'. I have a spare copy if you want it, Carol...PM me.
  11. Wasn't there a Peter Sellers comedy, which featured an instrumental of Mel Williams', 'Promises, promises, promises'? I seem to recall a scene in a mountain chalet, probably in the Alps, when the tune was played?
  12. Clyde McPhatter - Lonely people can afford to cry - Amy EDIT: Yep it is Freddie not Clyde. I got all excited about the, 'Neither will I' extract.
  13. Any chance of label scans to illustrate the difference? Must admit his other Blue Jay 45 is miles better...but no T.Terry on that one...blue stock or WD.
  14. Seems we posted at the same time, Tony! Fools seldom differ!
  15. Not got my copies with me, but are they not exactly the same...apart from the title?! From my files: 2002/2003 - Soldier Come Home / I Can't Make It 2002X/2003 - Keep on Holding On / I Can't Make It ...and whilst we're at it, the initial release on the label: 2001 - Don Hart & James Shorter - It's In My Mind / Come Here Baby All three releases used to be fairly easy to pick up during those 'lean times' during the 80's (2002X being the tougher of the three)...but then again that was 20 something years ago!
  16. Fabulous track! Was this on the 12" only?
  17. Nowp, defo wasn't the White Cliffs' disc. One of my regular suppliers had an interesting stash a few months ago...mainly big ticket Deep sides, which included Tommy's River City (and White Cliffs discs), along with some others. I seem to recall another sparse looking label, maybe yellow in colour, that looked interesting, but failed to be Northern either side (not saying that's a problem!)...so I left it. Went back and visited the bloke again yesterday...the River City 45 was still there, but the 'other' disc had gone. Hmmm.
  18. The SS7 copy LP pictured in an earlier thread was released in '77. The Japanese copy came out the following year, and has their VIVID logo on the cover in place of the SS7 logo. Here's a large-font scan of the superb 'So says my heart'.
  19. This did appear on a 45 (one-sided) and the Beas came out on the same promotional label (also one sided) before DeeGee (and UK Pama)...scans below. There's also some great clips on YouTube that I posted on RareSoulForum.com...hang on I'll go and dig them out...here you go: and... and...
  20. Superb R'n'B currently bubbling under the radar...and dare I say way under valued too?!
  21. Pops up for sale over here in Deep Soul land every now and then too. Seem to recall another disc by him on a similar sparse-looking yellow label too...hmmm?
  22. Oh! So good top notch male group harmonies with a highly polished backing track. Recommended.
  23. Got anything of equal value to trade, Phil? Agree that the flpiside is great...and more danceable! PM me if interested.
