  1. Yes, the single-sided copies 100% exist. As I recall, it was ZTSC stamped, not scratched and the blank side had a plain white label and an audio tone. Sorry no scan, as I decided to stick with my double-sided copy and didn't go for the single-sided one I was inspecting. Besides, the guy wanted too much (at the time!) for it. Of course, the question now is which press was used as the radio promo and which one was used for the phone-in competition give-away copies?! Naturally, this post is made with advance apologies to the Ric-Tic label collectors out there, who didn't know that there were two 109X presses, and therefore now have another label variant that they have to track down in order to complete the run!
  2. For reference, the pressing plant with the raised 'X' and glue-problem was called, Shelley Products Ltd, out of Long Island. There's a few more details about them (and many other pressing plants, including how to date your records) within the page devoted to US Pressing Plants on my site...quite interesting, though I say it myself! >>> CLICK HERE TO READ <<<
  3. Careful, the Mainstream WD's don't feature the, 'In school' side. Superb record as we all seem to agree on.
  4. Sorry, should've added the two tracks that I really like/rate are, 'Take a chance' and 'Come home girl'...quality midtempo tunes.
  5. Mr.Wood seems to have been popular over here in Japan too...on checking the shelves I have five 7" and an LP all of his Double Shot recordings on Japanese presses...the LP features a few corking tracks that (sadly) never came out on 45's.
  6. ICMIA also came out on a Japanese 7".
  7. Mint minus. £20 inc. courier service P&P PM me if interested.
  8. Still have a spare demo in nice condition...£250+P&P.
  9. Judy Clay TBMM always reminds me of the Yate All-nighters...stomp stomp stomp! I've a spare WD in excellent condition (HTKOG on the flip)...£25 inc. courier service to you doorstep.
  10. Glad you enjoyed it, Andy! Always turned heads and got chins scratched on the occasions I've played it out.
  11. Can get you a 12" copy, if that is of use Mark?
  12. Attached to a PM and winging its way to you now. Hope you like it.
  13. I'll get round to it this weekend, as the Solid Hit version is soooo much better than the Mah's one...honest! It sounds more 'complete' with the additional brass...more 'Detroity'...imo.
  14. Here's a nice one...West Coast Monarch press. I sold a stone-mint (probably unplayed!) spare copy for £50 recently. Should go for double that imo...so good/fine pedigree/under played.
  15. 1000mph...defo improved using a vari-speed deck! Red label variant. Are there any WDs?
  16. Yes. Another number that is on red vinyl with the WDs. Great track...Northern!
  17. Agree. What do you think of his, 'The sweetest story', Gareth?
  18. He once told me Holland too. It is certainly safe to assume that they aren't over here in Japan, as none of the collectors have it/them/have ever seen one either. My copy came from Quin Ivy himself...and yes the version used on various Charly label releases is indeed off master tapes, stereo AND a different mix to the released 45 (check out the brass work!). If y'all don't know it, I thoroughly recommend another track by him, on the South Camp label called, 'The sweetest story'...great Northern SOUL.
  19. This one is pretty good/obscure/lesser known/interesting to some! It is a female vocal (but not exactly accomplished to be fair!) track with an overall Soul/Jazz feel to it, and reminiscent of Karmella Brooks, if you like that kinda thing?
  20. Nowp, that's the Mah's version...but still great innit! Now imagine additional brass on top and you're on the right track! Haven't got time to record snippets at the moment...not that I've ever been successful uploading clips onto SS anyway!!!
  21. The Solid Hit take is far, far superior to the common (yet still good) Mahs release. Here's a link to a piece I wrote about it in Shades of Soul back in 2004: >>> CLICK HERE <<< A very nice piece to add to any collection, or indeed DJ with!
  22. Hi Ian, I had one many moons ago...West Coast styrene press with typical block-print and bar-lines. I may have a label scan somewhere...will have a poke around.
  23. Awesome moody mid-tempo NYC Soul grinder...imo. Defo has turntable time left in it and I can easily imagine a fair amount of people liking it, if they didn't know it and enjoyed mid-6T's NYC Soul. I sold a copy in the mid 90's to Chris Dale, who gave it a few spins on the Northern/Mod scenes in/around London. Not a 'rarest of the rare' piece...I've listed my spare for a while with no takers.
