  1. You've missed the 45, as advertised on here, by but a few days, but the LP is still availlable! >>> Marge Dodson 45 & LP For Sale <<<
  2. I'm not gonna type them all out, but the sales page includes all of the following: Metros - RCA Hesitations - Kapp Incredibles - Audio Arts Shades of Blue - Impact Righteous Brothers - Souled Out Ripple Blast Singers - Funny Girl a la Soul ...and the great compilations... Soul Black & Beautiful - the GWP label compilations 1 & 2 Gamble All Stars - inc's alternative takes of 'What kind of lady' and other Gamble label goodies Here's a few scans to please the eye and here's the link to the prices (all VERY reasonable though i say it myself) and conditions - note that a lot of them are MINT with no deletion cuts, near mint or pretty damn mighty fine - no shockers here! >>> RARE 60's Original LPs Up For Grabs <<<
  3. Nice one...fab clip...a true classic slab of Northern Soul I have a couple of copies of their stunning RCA album, if anyone fancies one: The Metros - Sweetest One - RCA LSP3776 Copy.1. - Vinyl E+ / Sleeve E+ = £75 Copy.2. - Vinyl E+ / Sleeve has a slight seem split on one edge vg++ = £40 +P&P £5...insured, recorded to your doorstep and trackable on the internet all the way! Parcels taking between 3 and 5 days to the UK at the moment.
  4. Do not be misled by the three scans that appear to different. There are to my knowledge just two variations of this Nosnibor number...both are purple one light and one deep...and no black label copies. The scan on the left is actually more of a light purple when seen in the flesh, so to speak, but note the differing font. The middle scan is a deeper purple colour, just like the one on the right...the scans obviously caught the light differently. Hope that helps...you may enjoy this page to >>> Cleveland Robinson Feature <<<
  5. I've had a couple of copies over the years - swapped away a WD not too long ago too. What's the UK scene's going rate for this one at the moment? (Feels funny typing that phrase, but hey I'm on the outside looking in!)

Another Mode disc: Ronnie Taplet - Somebody Out There (Love me) Light blue label, Colfam Music publishing and fab Northern Soul. Rattling tambourine, tinkling piano intro and a sax suddenly waking up mid-way through for a few powerful 'Phurps'. The vocal is a touch Gwen Davis style (SS7) and overall a great sound...imo. Sold my copy to Tm Brown yonks ago and have not seen another since. (If anyone has a Jades in decent condition that they want to part with, please drop me a PM.)
  7. From a discussion waaaaay back in June 2003 between us chaps over on RareSoulForum.co.uk. One member had been talking with Bart Mazzarella, the original bass player: Detroit Soul began in New Britain CT in early 1966, formed by a bunch of high school kids...all had played in previous groups...Bart started playing with Dave, Joey, and Skip at the age of 13 in a band called the High Tones. The original Detroit Soul lineup: Bart Mazzarlella: bass guitar Joey Verillo: Sax Peter Villano: Hammond B-3 Organ Skip Blankenburg : Trumpet Angelo Mariani :trumpet Ronnie Carruba: drums Bart notes that the group originally had three black singers from Waterbury CT that billed themselves as the Connoisseurs...initial gigs had them as the top billing, with backing by Detroit Soul, making people think an actual group from Detroit was providing the soul beat! The Connoisseurs eventually dissolved, then Detroit Soul incorporated front-man/lead singer Sal Lenares, who had just left his previous group. Most gigs were Battle Of The Band type events at the local spots in New Britain, as well as Bristol and Hartford, CT. One memorable Battle of the Bands had them beat out CT's top group, The Wildweeds. This brought them to the attention of WPOP program director and booking agent Bob Paiva, who got Detroit Soul to perfrom on Hartford Avenue at Sound View Beach, a real popular summer spot back then (1967). Bob encouraged the group to record an original tune, so Pete and Sal put their heads together for "All Of My Life", recorded at Syncron Studios in Wallingford, CT in the late summer months of 1967. The record was released on the Music Town label, based in Hartford, and climbed near the top 10 in the Hartford area in October 1967, also gaining airplay down in New Haven (#31 peak position out of the top 60). Bart noted, "We first heard "All of my life" on record for the first time at our manager's pizza shop in Southington on his juke box...what a thrill! WPOP's PD Bob Paiva played it in regular rotation and we were on our way. Our experience was a lot like the movie ('That thing you do'). Soon we were the opening act for nationally known bands and even went on the road throughout New England and New York to play a number of venues to promote the record, which became a turntable hit. Our friends said they even heard it when they served in Europe and in Vietnam!" Bart went away to college shortly afterwards, and Dave Calcagni replaced him on bass, as heard on the follow-up 45, "Does Your Mind Go Wild" in the spring of 1968. But due to the draft and college, the band split up for good later that year. Some of the members went on to play locally in a rock /soul type band called 'Kangaroo' (no recordings). Two of the members are now deceased: Angelo (killed in action in Vietnam) and Skip (1999). ============== 'All of my life' is one of my fave Northern tracks of all time. A friend of mine even has a picture of the record label tattooed on his arm! It reminds me of the Yate nighters and Wheelwrights soul nights, where Dave Thorley used to push it. I recall at the time also buying a copy of 'DYMGW' on the strength of 'AOML' (probably from JM!), but although it is OK, is is not essential...and certainly not in the same league at 'AOML'.
  8. One copy still available...£80 inc P&P.
  9. 45 sold, LP still available.

And for a quality big beat-ballad check out his version of, 'A moment of weakness' on Warner Bros...US or UK. Sublime.
  11. Do the deadwax markings reveal anything of interest? Here's what my sleeve looks like...a Japanese copy:

Would love to see for photographic evidence for this claim...anyone?
  13. Both are 2:02. yet another case of messing with times, though usually it was making the longer tracks appear shorter (Radio DJ play reasons).
  14. I have had a Mala demo, a #102 (RPR dist. vinyl) white demo and a #7823 local Detroit copy. The muddiest (but still not that bad) was #102. I still have a minty #7823 (Hi Rod ) and it is loud and bright...both sides...and has the large ARCHER stamp in the deadwax. If only there were demos of this variant <sigh> I also used to have an original vinyl test press of 'Rat race'...oh the Stafford memories...now that was a touch too bass-y, but all the better for it

Got a blue label 1st press of 'Storm Warning' up for grabs within the page of £10 specials on my site, should anyone else fancy a copy...I mean this is a disc EVERYONE should own...top tuneage. >>> £10 & £15 Specials <<< (There's also an original Billy Floyd - Arctic WD up for offers, but that is defo not in the £10 section! Now that's a tough Arctic number!)
  16. I'll take the image of them sitting on a wooden bench in the park composing, with the bottle in a plain brown paper bag, naturally. If only you knew what the weather was like on that day, the picture would be complete! Sticklers of the Soul world unite! Cheers Chris
  17. That's all very well and good, but you failed to mention the brand of rum!
  18. Any idea of the date he recorded this, Chris?
  19. I have quite a few...ahem...I mean I could possibly get you some Japanese releases, if you want? May I throw two more into the arena: 'Things I wanna do' - a wonderful beat-ballad/mid-tempo mover...full orchestration job 'Never give away love' - in the same stomping vein as, 'Stop breaking my heart'.
  20. 'Silent Heart' is on the wonderful SoulClub site... https://www.soulclub.org/stream/125th_St_Ca...ilent_Heart.ram ...love that piano break starting @ 1:45
  21. His telephone number. You are indeed correct that Johnny is his dad/manager.
  22. It's Chinese, not Japanese
  23. 125th Street Candy Store - 'Silent Heart' / 'Hey Girl' - Fania Super Northern double-sider on the King of Latin Soul labels! 'SH' is a beautiful lilting mid-tempo soul dance track...awesome piano work! 'HG' is an uptempo stormer with some great brass work and harmonies Nice clean stock copy...£85 +P&P
  24. Marge Dodson - 'Be Your Baby' - Decca Great uptempo storming Northern Soul...vibes, brass, strings, able backing singers it has the lot! Has had some scene exposure, but worthy of more for sure! Rare stock copy 45 = £200 ...or... Original Decca album featuring 'Be your baby' = £30
  25. Original single-sided 10" acetate resplendant in it's Transco sleeve...both being in fab condition. Good little dance tracks (both on Uni Records), but you don't wanna play 'em, you wanna frame this little beauty up and hang it on your record room wall! £250 for this slab of Soul history...inc P&P (gosh!)...or may consider a quality trade.
