this is true..uk dealers will try to push it prices up from £50 to £80.. that said..prices on copies direct from the usa will always be a bit cheaper as they will have to try and incorporate the postage and the taxes into the record to compete.. at least they are in the US and will have sourced the records out in the field or cheaper in the first place
-
it may well be true chris. corruption was rife within the industry back then and probably still is. but sadly its just talk with no paperwork to clarify one way or the other
-
ye i could be crossed wires with don gardner.. think rob said it was issued without his consent for sure
-
i`ll wager the majority of usa artists didnt know of their material being issued nationally or overseas and what about backing tracks being borrowed.. don gardner had no memory of the cheating kind... does that make it a bootleg.. as i said earlier about the london darrell bank that they never had the rights to..thats 2 expensive bootlegs at the top of the tree if we look at it that way.. but i`m sure somewhere down the line paperwork will exist as i dont think uk decca was in the habit of knowingly putting 45s out without permission.. in all honesty i take what the `stars` say with a massive pinch of salt as they are only human and one human frailty is to let theirs mouths run away with them... especially when they have an audience usually in awe of them.. the only boots that are worth campaigning about are the ones actually done for the soul scene in the uk and original USA material put out in the 60s/70s or 80s is just best left alone for the good of the scene and everything connected with it
-
think that may have been uk decca just being lazy..its not a bootleg in the true sense of the word..well no more than say the london darrell banks.. vault records in L.A tried to go national with it hense the atco distibuted copies..it could have even surface on uk red atlantic over here..that may seem far fetched but it could have realistically happened
-
i have black issue.. its rarer but not dean courtney or velours rare.. dont think were any further forward on this tho

lots of experts out there..you dont just need the opinion of those 2 guys to get the correct facts
-
was this ever actually booted.. in reality its a $50cent record thats as time has moved on finds itself being £40 or £50 record..great as it is both sides
-
think the metros previous single sweetest one was a bigger seller..even made the billboard hot 100 pop
-
i will say the last 12 months tho the internet has kept us all sane while we can spend tme and money trawling for records while we been stuck in the house.. dont know what i would have done without it personally on a buying and selling basis
-
i certainly agree the first 10 years i was on ebay. gemm netsounds etc i was like a kid in a sweetshop and its great to have the biggest record box ever at your fingertips but last 10 years its got much fiercer then on the top of that we have all the extra post and fees etc.. weve had a good run with it tho..just hope it dont get no worse than it is at present

Gwen Owens - You better watch out - going rate ?
Dave Pinch replied to Chris L's topic in Look At Your Box
think i have 4 or 5 copies of this.. thought it was really cheap.. £6 or something -
absolutely.. i looked around thought 100 might not be a sure fire sell.. and when i pulled it out to sell thought it may still be a £30 /40 record and was surprised it was so high so settled on the 80. at least i made a good profit on it and cant grumble too much
