i know it was a 2k record once but the last couple ive seen were only around the 1k mark..even john must be surprised at the outcome even tho its still a rare 45.......not the first copy ive seen to be put up since the auction finished either
yes tempests is 42790 so that means tempests is dec 68 ..nov at the very earliest..18 months after the lp and the last of the other smash 45s
anyway gettin sidetracked a little an goin off topic a bit. but its handy info if u dont know
ive dated it to jan 69 ish lol.ok maybe even dec 68 ....theres a 5 figure digit number on all the mercury/philips fontana smash brand of labels below the main catalogue number that ties all these labels together. a handy thing to know if you need to date stuff. i could delve further but i`ll leave that to the anoraks
then it should be on the typical mid 60`s label design.................it is not its on the one used from 69 onwards like kelly garrett etc ( with the mercury logo next to smash)..in fact they follow each other as releases.. the other tempest releases ( on the lp) are quite a bit earlier.. ....might have to do a bit more digging
out of my life is not on the lp tho tony is it. was it an earlier cut just randomly released a couple of years down the line. i havent seen flynny`s cd notes so i cant comment.but all the other tempest 45`s and the lp are 66/67. out of my life never came out at this time. its 1969 and sounds the part to my ears. perhaps it was really just a hazel martin solo 45 under the tempest banner.. i think it was reissued as hazel martin anyway on a purple label some copies with purple vinyl..name of the label escapes me now.....and to be honest i cant even remember if the reissue is a re recording ??? maybe for the beach music scene
dave
jimmy thomas..... i had a black parlophone copy from swish in 1991 for £100....sold it to ronnie pedley for £125 about 5 years later so if your copy was late 90`s pete you did well buying it and maybe not so when you let it go
just a thought............didnt america have transport in the sixties because we hear folks says things like "couldnt possible have been cut in chicgo coz they were from or recorded in detroit"...just an example.... also what gareth says could be right but the tempests records are 1966/67 with out of my life in 69...the paris 45`s are from 63 and 64 so anything is posible really..we`ll never know for certain
it has a delta mark so it can be dated exactly. defo 1964 ...this is hazel martin lead vocalist of the tempests right
just compare the sleepless nights vocal to this
a bit of both with me... i mean who in their right mind wouldnt want to own originals of tomangoes and cecil washington....but at the same time if i still had em i`d consider selling em again for something i`d rather use in 2012
i still say its melba moore doin the lead on this.....sounds like her,,a girl looking like her called melba montgomery on the back cover of the canadian copy for sure.... sold it recently so i cant be 100% certain
didnt the les mcann lp also come out on uk mercury ...corey glover cd came out in 98 and was played from the cd as a new release.he was in a band called living colour who had a couple of top 40 uk hits late 80`s.i can recall les mcann being played at the wilton mid 90`s chris holmes i think maybe roger banks also
a few copies here
