  1. No Thank God

Reynolds - Weigh All The Facts - UK Club - 80s but it was a chance for LJ to be lead on 3 tracks in this list. All cheap, All Great.
  3. Personally I dont think the scene only played hard to find sounds. Anyway that's why I priced it at a fiver or less.
  4. For about a fiver (or less)! Sweet Inspirations - Reach Out For Me - Atlantic - Wonderful, best version Melba Moore - Let's Go Back To Loving - EMI 80's - Strings, heavy percussion - tight brass - Male vocal back up - Catchy chorus - yep I like it Jimmy Justice - Burgundy, Port & Red Wine - B&C - About a guy hitting the bottle after the old lady has left - sound familiar? SLIM
  5. 3 from a very mixed bag; Betty Harris - I Don't Wanna Hear It from the UK Action Soul Perfection LP - not cheap exactly but not rare either Donald Byrd - In Love With Love - Thank You For F U M L LP - nice uptempo modern dance track with the usual sublime trumpet from DB - not sure it's him singing tho. 100 Proof Aged In Soul - Backtrack written by General Johnson from the Somebody's Been Sleepin' LP. Great Greg Perry production with Joe Stubbs on vocals. Backing seems to be mostly Smacking drums, bass & some fuzzy type guitar + tight backing vocals. LP is great overall with another Joe Stubbs track taking the ballad & rapping honours with Aint That Lovin' You, a track that has to be heard to be believed, great stuff. Slim
  6. The Clovers - Try My Lovin' On You Al Green - Don't Leave Me The O'Jays - Hold On + All the motown classics The oldies (and cheapest) are still the best!!
  7. I used to watch TOTP regularly in the 60s just in case there may be an act on with a Soul or R&B sound and it happened occasionally but not as much as the BBC pretend these days. One Friday I was knocked out with a group I had never heard of before, although they mimed, they tore the place up. It was The Spellbinders - Help Me, HONEST! I rushed out to get the 45 the next day but as was usual in those days, if it wasn't in the top 20 you had to order it and wait for a month or so until the mule train arrived at The Disc Shop. Can anyone else remember this event just in case people think I'm dementing or recall other similar surprises?
  8. Wasn't Hotsy Totsy - Leon Bryant one of, if not the last records played at soulful Wigan??!!
  9. Great stuff being played including lots of luverly R&B. Just got to pick out the Jackie Wilson/Linda Hopkins track - Say I Do from Mischief's set. I've been putting this on tapes for years. A stunning Gospel/Soul/R&B stormer from 2 of the best voices ever. I've included a pic of an EP that Jackie autographed at the Colwyn Bay Pier!!
  10. Thanks for that. Here's another one from my very small collection. What about Tour Programmes & other memorabilia. Is there much interest out there?
  11. Collecting sheet music is the only way sometimes to get hold of pictures of artists from the 60's. Even if they are well known the sheets have a bit of magic about them when relating to particular classics like this one IMO. Are they being collected and does anyone out there have similar examples ?
  12. Thanks lads. I think that kind of explains it. My copy does not have sterling stamped in it scratched or unscratched so I presume it is a legit repress? Slim.
  13. Can anyone tell me please whether my copy of It Really Hurts Me Girl is a boot? I bought it many years ago but having heard of so many boots I thought I'd get it checked. I don't have many rare records (sob) so I haven't got Manship's bible. My copy is an issue, pink label. It has a small fr in the runout wax+ rc2857 and a d later on. I'm also after a copy of Ramsey Lewis - Day Tripper/Hurt So Bad on UK chess in nice condition if anyone has one. Cheers, Slim.
  14. What about Mamie galore - It Aint Necessary. One of the first 'biggies' I think from the very early 70's. Can't remember where it was first played but I remember selling quite a few at the time with Bob Foster that he brought back from NY in '71.
  15. Also look out for the Dean Barlow version on RUST. At least as good IMO & maybe easier to find Slim
  16. How are these for a mixed bag? Jackie Moore - Somebody Loves You Melba Moore - Let's Get Back To Lovin' Wall Of Sound - Hang On Tabby Thomas - Popeye Train Henry Strogin - Love Insurance Contours - Baby Hit & Run (always has to be played at least twice in a row) The Clovers - All About You The Top Notes - I Love You So Much (Derek Martin at his wildest) Ernie & Ed - Indication The Laddins - I'l Kiss Your Teardrops Away SLIM
  17. Bobby Darin - 18 Yellow Roses Frankie Laine - Don't Make My Baby Blue (Goffin & King) Gene McDaniels - Anyone Else - Pure Cheese & Great! Spanky & Our Gang - Sunday Will Never Be The Same Robert John - If You Don't Want My Love Delaney Bramlett - Liverpool Lou Connie Francis - No Better Off - Bert Keyes!! Chris Montez - Call Me Adam Wade - Rain From The Skies Bruce Channel - Hey Baby! ++++The Killer - Jerry Lee Lewis - Another Place Another Time - Must be played after a skinfull Slim
  18. Dottie & Millie is a good record. Etta James, Sugarpie, Aretha et al might sing it better but would their voices suit the song? It has a great groove and IMO their voices suit it perfectly. Anyway who could begrudge them having the opportunity to make the record? I bet that if there was only one known acetate and it was found in a box under Frank Wilson's bed all the critics would be falling over themselves to get their hands on it. Slim
  19. What about Jackie Moore - Somebody Loves You - Kayvette? Slim
  20. Great. I was hoping it was If You Don't Want My Love. I bought it as a newie in '67 and still listen to it regularly. Answer to Quiz. Robert John is/was Bobby Pedrick of White Bucks And Saddle Shoes (!) fame. Released on UK London in '58.
  21. Oops, I meant to put the price at £30 NOT £40. Still includes postage, what a bargain!. Email me on volt4stax@aol.com Slim

  23. Hi Davie. re; the other 2 Robert John's being played. Other than 'Raindrops' what's the other? Quick Quiz anyone - Robert John had a 45 issued in the UK in 1958 under another name (a big US hit). - Who was he then?! Slim
