James Brown on Shout and Shimmy has to be the longest and best. He rightly sounds exhausted when he finishes. There's also Bobby Bland on Little Boy Blue - another long cracker. Bobby Parker on Watch Your Step and Ray Charles on Tell The Truth and The Right Time.

Martin might have changed over the years but I went over to Canada 3 times in the mid 80s with a couple of mates specifically to go to his shop in Toronto, a real treasure trove. We were treated real well including 3 of us spending 3 nights at his house going through the stacks of records in his basement and listening to stuff from his private collection which was awesome. He drove us to Niagara Falls and introduced us to other dealers. We bought loads of stuff at very decent prices inc Reatha Reese & Matthew Barnett + loads of R&B, Latin etc. Thene we went to his warehouse!! The only downside was being at his house at 9 in the morning watching Liverpool lose the FA cup to Wimbledon.

I was in Martin Koppell's warehouse in Toronto in 1987 when he took a call from Steve Davis enquiring about some rare Deep Soul item. According to Martin he was a regular buyer. Going back to Dale & Radio 2. Maybe this is the Establishment's revenge for Soul Sam playing Lulu or similar?

I switched the car radio on to Radio 2 by chance (honestly) this afternoon only to hear Timi Yuro - It'll Never Be Over For Me on the Dale Winton Show. It was great to hear it but does it mean THE END??!!
