  1. Sorry just seen this Chalky - I think the Crossover thread has long had an anything goes policy - I think must of us know what the definition of Crossover is but the regular contributors to the thread who tend to be broad minded often post tunes that fall outside of that strict definition and don't allow themselves to be restricted by a beat, time period or format ( CD tracks are sometimes included). I don't really think there is any confusion amongst the regulars but Baz has changed the heading of the thread to reflect the eclectic nature of the thread. Cheers Manus
  2. Good idea Steve and Baz has already been on the case and renamed the thread. Cheers Manus
  3. Hello Paul I often put ballads into the Crossover thread on here but it's not because I believe that they are Crossover or should be described as such but more to do with sharing them with the people that frequent the Crossover thread and the fact that they are open minded and tend to judge a record on it's Soul content. I'm personally a bit worn out with the need to catergorise everything and I see the Crossover thread as simply a place to put good Soul music and discuss it with like minded people. All the best mate Manus
  4. He's just played a fantastic tune by Bernard Drake - new one to me.
  5. Very sad news indeed. RIP Manus
  6. A bit of both Paul I think Cheers Manus
  7. Brilliant track Paul and great to see it getting 45 status - the albums one of my favourite LPs Cheers Manus
  8. Great thread Brett - I'd go for the Alice Clark too but my favourites would Charms of the arms of love and I keep it hid. Agree with the already mentioned Sandra Wright LP every track a winner and also Darrell Banks Here to Stay which is on my decks as I write. Also like Jimmy Hughes Something Special and both Facts of Life LPs and so many more. Cheers Manus
  9. Had me smiling too - just when I thought we'd done every thread possible along comes something different. Seemed light hearted and a good laugh to me. Good on em
  10. I remember Alex Lowes bringing him up to Durham for a night - I couldn't make it but I did get to the Gold Mine and I was a wee bit disappointed - maybe it was just an off night as there is no doubting the mans pedigree. Cheers Manus
  11. I remember the tape business got to give the little fella 10 out 10 for cheek - him and Alex were in a war over venue's and coaches to Wigan and there's Duncan playing a tape of all the current big sounds and they'd been taped from Alex's emidiscs I remember going up to the desk to find out where they'd suddenly got all the top sounds from and as you say Jeff they were playing them off a tape - jeez you've got to laugh at the brazeness of it - great days ( Alex had taped all his emi's for a 3rd party and Duncan managed to get copy of the tape) Cheers Manus
  12. Hope Jazzie Bs reading this
  13. Hello Paul Yes I remember a bit of a bust up in Tynemouth - it was a fairly well known ex skinhead from Wallsend and a few others who weren't Soul fans - I think Ted knew him and was trying to calm things down. Cheers Manus
  14. Spot on
  15. Been reading this thread again and thought it was of worth a revival - I really like Ken's post at 19 and also Louise's - Jazzie B really annoyed me to Cheers Manus
  16. My memories terrible these days Webby - but I'm pretty sure about this - I'm sure someone else will remember. Cheers Manus
  17. I've asked this before but does anyone remember when they had some sort of raised mobile theatre seating stored in the Beachcomber and people were sitting on them - very surreal or was I hallucinating? Used to like the buzzing atmosphere in the Beachcomber but very odd place at times. Cheers Manus
  18. Just googled them and there still around - too good a name not to be used Cheers Manus
  19. Everytime I go through the New Forest and see the sign for Rufus Stone - I think Soul singer - great cover up name Manus
  20. One that's been around for a while but deserving of a bit more exposure Jesse Mitchell Don't Be So Eager Cheers Manus
  21. As I said earlier in this thread - I love threads like this. I was a little suedehead in 1970 listening and dancing to Tamla, Invictus and Reggae and didn't know much about the Wheel and the other great clubs that existed until I got involved with the scene in 1973 - so a hearty thanks to yourself Brian and pioneers like you who pushed the boundaries and helped create the scene that we have now. And to people like Swish who have kept the faith for so long and to all who have played their part along the way. So Merry Xmas to all - those that have been around for 40 years and those that have been around for 2 weeks Cheers Manus
