  1. chalkys right re ref-soul it is an immense library of incredible stuff -particulary seventies were up to 163 pages of stuff on the crossover thread and every week-there keep coming thick and fast -brilliant -Ian is right ive stumbled on all sorts on obscure sites and you tube is awesome particulary for funk the last 5 tracks i posted on the funk thread were straight of you tube!! The romantacism with finding rare stuff etc -went along time ago for me it simply rarely happens these days mainly because of the longevity of the british soul scene however theres thoushands upon thoushands of interesting records to be had and you can latch on to stuff from all places online etc-going to us record fairs etc keeps the fire burnning for me but thats for the social reasons etc. Hunting records and going out are now 2 different things imho [never used to be]but certainly is now -plus the ownership issue with djs ie "i discovered that" YEAH RIGHT -what aload of kack bet your bottom doller with the exception of a few that a tune has found a place before it becomes big etc-trends and fads still dominate a soul scene in the uk ?? how many collectors etc are sitting on the stuff for numerous years before a dj makes it popular NUFF SAID -right back online to find some interesting stuff !!lol. BAZ A

  8. some good points from Keith-i sell for fun to fund trips to the usa so can say "your taking the piss if i feel like it"lost counts how many times :ohmy:I have but also done some great deals on here -the climate is hard but also we are in total vinyl overload so with that should bring tremendous value ???? [in theory anyhow] BAZ A
  9. NEVER HAD ANY PROBS RE PRICES I JUST SIMPLY SAY NO IF not happy -one thing for sure theirs always a good bit of activity on here for buying and selling and bargains to be had if you look hard enough-theres some items massively inflated and others worth picking up at reasonable prices imo,all goes with the turf ie record collecting and haggling well again why not ? The price quide has ofcourse thrown the selling side of things wide open and alot of the time sellers do quote the book thinking this or that is a bargain but just like when you are out and about the green always talks in the end!! BAZ A.
  10. Do agree with Rich on that id strongly recommend most of the singles on stang if not all of them and all can be picked up reasonably cheap-check out the mark green singles on stang also - sweet soul at its very very best imo!!! BAZ A.
  11. sounds brill thanks mate BAZ A Which one Baz? I take it you mean Sigma Sound? No unfortunately. I did pass it a couple of times - once with Val Shively in the 70's but I didn't have the balls to walk in in '76. Wish I had. I did manage to get some great studio photos and interviews with Vince Montana when we did the Salsoul Orchestra anthology a few years back and I speak with a few of the original guys every now and then - for instance, I just licensed a track from Bobby Eli who is alive and well. However, I have a sneaking suspicion that Moulton's sat on TONS of stuff from the era 'cos he collects it and then sits on it forever LOL I'm actually going to do a mini documentary with the great man in the next couple of weeks so I'm going to interview him in his apartment and get him to dig into all the stuff in his archives (of which there are 1000's of tapes) so that should be fun. Dealing with his bloody cats probably won't be as much fun however......... I'll let you know how I get on. If I start finding any Sweet and Deep you'll be the first to know.......... Ian D
  12. WONDERFUL GESTURE THANKS Ian just out of interest did you ever get to the studio ?? Lemme know whatcha need Baz. I kept copies of all the Salsoul masters we made anyway and those that we didn't manage to get are held by either Tom Moulton (who I'm seeing next week) or my mate Jeremy Newall who has the entire Salsoul catalogue. Now lemme see........you'll probably be after that unreleased Loleatta Holloway, Eddie Holman and Love Committee stuff right? And yer right. Litigating over this stuff is a one way ticket to oblivion......... Ian D
  13. EXACTLY - BAZ A. Yeah but that's for 'Wigan Casino Northern Soul' isn't it Baz? And it's less than a year old too. Nothing for 'Wigan Casino' by itself that I can see........ Ian D
  14. HELLO DAVE FOLLOW THE LINK TO THE SITE POP IN WIGAN CASINO IN THEIR SEARCH ENGINE AND GET AN IDEA OF WHO OWNS THE TRADEMARK - BAZ A WTF Does that mean? [
  15. ah the voice of reason Ian follow the link re the ipo office can only see wigan casino as a trademark registered once -and that was 09 -the registration invaraibly comes from companies because their have exempt liability legally from directors etc common sense and ofcourse its a lawyers dream and a punters nightmare -i dont think a moral case ie the right or wrong notion would come into this at all-it would rest on cash im afraid!! BAZ A PS WOULD OF LOVED A STUDIO CD ALL THAT LOVELY SAL-SOUL ETC!! As someone who spent £27K in litigation over a name I created (a case I lost by the way) that's probably pretty good advice Baz. The setting the trousers alight option could potentially be a bit tricky though...... I would imagine that Gerry Marshall's estate more than likely own the own the intellectual copyright and trade mark in Wigan Casino since it was his company which financed the operation and paid for everything in the first place. A court of law would find in their favour without a doubt - courts almost invariably find in the favour of the people who originally financed things unless there was a specific contract stating otherwise. I tried to do a Studio 54 album a few years ago and the road was littered with legal problems so it just wasn't worth the headache. I'd let sleeping dogs lie for a whole heap of reasons and they all cost money....... Ian D
  16. just checked the ipo intellectual property office - please check it out folks if your curious as to the trademark question -ie wigan casino just pop it in their search engine - https://www.ipo.gov.uk/
  17. there you go folks for those genuinely interested in looking at this objectively [perhaps i should remove the trouser comment lol] https://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/copyright/p01_uk_copyright_law take out the personnel feelings and comments -ask who created the work-ask who is taking credit -???
  18. urban expansions can go for breach of copyright -copyright is Copyright is the set of exclusive rights granted to the author or creator of an original work, including the right to copy, distribute and adapt the work. These rights can be licensed, transferred and/or assigned. Copyright lasts for a certain time period after which the work is said to enter the public domain. Copyright applies to a wide range of works that are substantive and fixed in a medium. Some jurisdictions also recognize "moral rights" of the creator of a work, such as the right to be credited for the work. while since i went to law school etc [oh yes tis true sadly but i was saved lol]but very costly -not that punitive -and a total minefield when it comes to determining a legal rememdy -my opinon of this is the moral rights argument presuming it came from russ would be fickle to say the least ?? Also what has the wigan casino trademark etc got to do with this?surely an action would be urban v winstanley unless he has been shrewd which would foggy the waters even more!! BAZ A. PAUL YOU CREATED SOMETHING WONDERFUL -YOUD SOON HAVE 10K EATEN UP ON THIS ETC SO JUST SET HIS TROUSERS ALIGHT WHEN YOU CATCH UP WITH HIM!!
  19. thas interesting re 111 [cry] always had me suspicions that was cut elswhere-anyone got some of the line ups of the appreciations and the dramatics at the time ??? BAZ A THINK WHAT HAPPENED WAS, SPORT 110, YOU DONT HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME, MADE A BIT OF NOISE NATIONALLY SO WAS PICKED UP FOR NATIONAL DISTRIBUTION BY AMY/MALA/BELL, SO STRIKING WHILST THE IRON WAS RELITIVELY HOT THEY QUICKLY RELEASED THE FOLLOW UP SPORT 111, EASIER SAID THAN DONE...NOT REALISING THAT SPORT HAD ALREADY RELEASED 111 LOCALLY IN DETROIT.
