  4. AH THANKS KRIS.Staying near Dallas for a while thats very useful!! BAZ A Sound Exchange is really the only one of note in Houston. For a city of it's size it is weird that Houston doesn't have better record stores. The guy that runs Forever Young is a big Bob Dylan collector if you can rustle up any stuff to trade. Best store in Fort Worth is Doc's Records & Vintage at 2111 Montgomery St. Dallas has a couple of spots, I've done well out of the big main Half Price Books on the East Northwest Highway. Austin is the best city for stores in Texas, that place is sweet, but if you're an ARC regular you'll probably know all those
  5. thanks mate. BAZ A Baz, glad to see you've had a few suggestions, for record shops etc, I can only make one small contribution, if you google, John's Boy- Texas, sadly not listed anything for four years, but I used to buy off them about 30 years ago, when they used to do some amazing wholesale lists, Rca demos etc. Multiple copies of each. Another bit of information at present, but again, might be of no use now, if I can locate the details before you go I will e mail you, Is a shack I visited, all the abc's, linda elliot etc, and for anybody, who collects beatles, yesterday and today U.S. copies( butcher sleeve), un peeled, apart from the one shown, to a good friend of mine and I, who I went to the states with, incidentally the place was in the middle of nowhere, and we were taken there, by someone who exchanged dusty springfield (springfields records) in return. Happy hunting, all the best, Nigel A.

  7. any good hunting in Houston Tony ? BAZ A ...That's exactly the shop I meant. I've had a bargain or two out of there in my time, although they do know what they're doing by and large and, I would imagine, more so since the advent of price guides. Mind you, there was that marvellous day in the mid 1990s, that I walked in there and pulled three copies of Ty Karim "Lighten Up" on Romark from the racked-out stock, for a total of $9.00 plus tax. If only that still happened every week,eh?

  11. Thanks Tony -got a day before Austen or so. BAZ A Never found a record shop (or a record!) in Fort Worth in maybe 20 or 30 visits to the place, Baz. In the early 90s I used to get quite a bit o stuff from a shop in Grand Prairie, about half way between Fort Worth and Dallas, but I can't remember what it was called now (bloody senior moments). Nice place, though, is Fort Worth. Especially since they restored downtown...

  13. its brilliant and credit to you Ian-saw the master tapes just lying about -took me right back did that and reminded me of my old mate Al Coney sat on loads of reel to reel mar-v-lus stuff which he totally forget about till there were rescued or should i say procured by the likes of Rob Marriot etc lol.The interviews are brilliant -just a great insight indeed!! PS if there were about a uk venue or a glueless northern soul dj you would of had 100 replies so far lol-does make you wonder-keep up the marvellous work. BAZ A

BAZ A Only just spotted this threadBaz and what a great thread it is too!! Will plough my way through the tread tonight. I fully accept the Gospel genre and truly believe that the vocals are of the highest quality of any genre of music let alone soul. Have you ever heard a mediocre gospel vocal?? SOME INCREDIBLY FUNNY MOMMENTS Al Coney stealing the spastic statue and us lot knocking the head of it in the bus must of been at least 200 quid in penny coins scattered all over the eden bus .bought eddie parker for 7 quid that night all in penny coins lol. Pulling in at Kirby Stpehen and having a drink in the pub we all walked out with beanstalkers-barbour coats wellies-farmers gloves-youname it -allnight that night Al Coney worre a beanstalker and i had a pair of size 19 wellies on !! Knicking milk -on doorsteps outside at 5 in the morning and a lad from darlo got gaught he was charged with 5 counts of theft [one for each milk bottle] Paul hindle getting locked up for biting a punk. My good mate conney deliberatly falling downstairs in our corner for pound notes lol, top to bottom. sleepovers from friday to sat with gaz simons girlfriend and me and kev johnson eating toast in a terraced house in wigan with a girlfriends mum while smoking 10 no 6 . carlo knicking a mini and the steering wheel coming off - back street bluies inside of pork pies . the mods mayday night me booking a bus and not turning up. lovely people like june daily who never charged me for 3 years for bus fair 78-81 because i was gaz simons mate lol. absolute nutters like bowsey and mouse from boro who had no boundries and even scared the wigan bouncers- jack livo telling me he was gonna be a hit man when he grew up [those who know him will have a silent chuckkle] little dungan mc callister beating up hells angels at service stations finally because i really could go on all night -rading brighouse space invaders and spendig 2 nights in prison with 35 nutters from aycliffe -darlo and boro -every single person had a forged ticket for the oldies aniversary-didnt matter we did not get there. no wonder i failed my o levels!!
