hello mate tis a top tune to feature twice -love the soul children in the atkinson top 5 -thanks again mate your a real gentleman. BAZ A Just seen this, Baz. My pleasure indeed. For me it's been a real education - just so much wonderful stuff, a lot of which I'd never heard before, Iv'e given all the CD's plenty of hammer over the last 2 months. At some point I might do a "favourite from each CD " type of apraisal but for the time being a special merit award to Jock for 2 CD's even if one of them features the magnificent "Poem on the schoolhouse door" from the Soul Children twice!! World's Biggest Collection Still Unsold
Baz Atkinson replied to Ian Dewhirst's topic in All About the SOUL
some of the big popcorn collectors have been in also-does make you wonder however-not only a culturaly significant collection but you just would of thought that if it is only 17% then why have a major not been in ? i use the term major losely because their core business is signifantly different now-if the dollar was say 4-1 then i would of swooped in lol shame it isnt 1982 and i have the money i have now lol!! The Gospel Truth - New Cd From Ace/bgp
Baz Atkinson commented on Dean Rudland's article in News Archives
its a top class compilation and yes ofcourse some real stand out tracks forgot how chillingly soulful Josie Joe was and the sons of truth track is ace-21st century mindblowing a job well done folks!! BAZ A -
ITs a broad church and Manus and Brett are right -why stoop so low -just let the music do the talking the thread has ran now since Jan 2008 and we were at it way before that -I believe in the music and dont care about the bollox -in my record room the music speaks and thats good enough for me,the idea is to get a good encylapedia of soul music mostly from the genre of 69-75 but also the vast array of stuff that mirrors the magic from the golden period of soul music which is iMho the seventies [please not 6ts purists saying the sixties is the best lol-one mans poison etc.] Seems to be the most uncontroversial thread on SS because its the music -alot of people want to fight on here etc-mark out turf -i just want to post good tunes and spend most of my time in soul audio source -id rather listen and learn from good souls then slag off a venue dj or all the other bollox whcih i simply cant be arsed with. BAZ A

Should Debate Be Allowed On Sales Posts?
Baz Atkinson replied to Pete S's topic in All About the SOUL
See what others think Pete could be worth a punt as all sorts of stuff will sping from it!! I'll move it if you think that's where it should be, but it wasn't really actually All About The Soul! -
Should Debate Be Allowed On Sales Posts?
Baz Atkinson replied to Pete S's topic in All About the SOUL
Chat on prices is and can be title tattle lol-one man/womens poison etc, there is no consistency at all re prices so people as mentioned paying big sums should know their stuff if not then bigger fool them-i always lock WANTS and if people start pissing about on my sales i lock that also - should the mods not move this to all about the soul as it will throw up some wider issue like prices market flucuations rarity etc -INFACT ALL THE USUAL BOLLOCKS LOL!! BAZ A -

thats fantastic thankyou -really really helpful particulary the closed shops-we are expecting to head to houston after the fair -if your at the ARC please come over and say hello ! BAZ A I live in Houston and head up to Austin monthly. If you're planning on hitting other cities prior to hitting ARC, a serious suggestion would be to do so at least a week early, minimum. People fly in to Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio and Austin starting the week before typically just to drive around the state looking for records. Most stores in large Texas cities have been thoroughly pillaged a few days before ARC. Here's my take on these stores Allrecords 1960 West Gray Street - Houston, Texas 77019 Phone: 713-524-4900 , Utter crap that isn't worth the time on your worst day. Black Dog Records & CD's 3804 South Shepherd Drive - Houston, TX 77098 Phone: (713) 522-6001 If you're looking for Beatles LPs with variations on serial numbers, this is your place. Every now and then, I find something decent here but seldom. Close to Cactus Records and Sound Exchange. Chemistry Records 1412 Westheimer Road - Houston, TX 77006 Phone: (713) 521-4797 CLOSED Rockpile Records 2404 Montrose Blvd - Houston, TX 77006 Phone: (713) 521-2300 CLOSED Screwed Up Records & Tapes 7717 Cullen Blvd - Houston, TX 77051 Phone: (713) 731-0747 Hip Hop CDs, no records to be found there Sound Exchange 1846 Richmond Ave - Houston, TX 77098 ph 713.666.5555 soundex@firstworld.net Though you likely won't find any 45s here, they regularly have a nice selection of well-priced used vinyl. Probably my favorite store in Houston. Also check: Cactus Music 2110 Portsmouth Street Houston, TX 77098 (713) 526-9272 A place which isn't the collector's paradise but can turn something up here or there. Don't sleep on the dollar bins here. Vinal Edge 13171 Veterans Memorial Drive Houston, TX 77014 (281) 537-2575 There's more records here than most of these stores put together and they're basically all in cardboard boxes and unpriced. Can be a total pain in the ass but has proven well worth it in the past. It's located in way way way far North Houston but is worth the time if you have it typically. Plan on spending time and getting dirty if you go. I always have some stuff in my out-bin as well. You can give me a ring if you like.

AH THANKS KRIS.Staying near Dallas for a while thats very useful!! BAZ A Sound Exchange is really the only one of note in Houston. For a city of it's size it is weird that Houston doesn't have better record stores. The guy that runs Forever Young is a big Bob Dylan collector if you can rustle up any stuff to trade. Best store in Fort Worth is Doc's Records & Vintage at 2111 Montgomery St. Dallas has a couple of spots, I've done well out of the big main Half Price Books on the East Northwest Highway. Austin is the best city for stores in Texas, that place is sweet, but if you're an ARC regular you'll probably know all those

thanks mate. BAZ A Baz, glad to see you've had a few suggestions, for record shops etc, I can only make one small contribution, if you google, John's Boy- Texas, sadly not listed anything for four years, but I used to buy off them about 30 years ago, when they used to do some amazing wholesale lists, Rca demos etc. Multiple copies of each. Another bit of information at present, but again, might be of no use now, if I can locate the details before you go I will e mail you, Is a shack I visited, all the abc's, linda elliot etc, and for anybody, who collects beatles, yesterday and today U.S. copies( butcher sleeve), un peeled, apart from the one shown, to a good friend of mine and I, who I went to the states with, incidentally the place was in the middle of nowhere, and we were taken there, by someone who exchanged dusty springfield (springfields records) in return. Happy hunting, all the best, Nigel A.

BAZ A I am not sure if any of these are worth checking out: Allrecords 1960 West Gray Street - Houston, Texas 77019 Phone: 713-524-4900 , Black Dog Records & CD's 3804 South Shepherd Drive - Houston, TX 77098 Phone: (713) 522-6001 Chemistry Records 1412 Westheimer Road - Houston, TX 77006 Phone: (713) 521-4797 Rockpile Records 2404 Montrose Blvd - Houston, TX 77006 Phone: (713) 521-2300 Screwed Up Records & Tapes 7717 Cullen Blvd - Houston, TX 77051 Phone: (713) 731-0747 Sound Exchange 1846 Richmond Ave - Houston, TX 77098 ph 713.666.5555 soundex@firstworld.net One of Houston's oldest independent record stores. New and used vinyl, turntable parts and repair and , of course, c.d.s Soundwaves 8032 South Gessner Drive - Houston, TX 77036 Phone: (713) 773-9283 Vinyl Edge Records, Tapes and CD's 13171 VETERANS MEMORIAL Drive - Houston, TX 77014 Phone: (281) 537-2575 Wize Up Records 2325 San Jacinto Street - Houston, TX 77002 Phone: (713) 650-3585

any good hunting in Houston Tony ? BAZ A ...That's exactly the shop I meant. I've had a bargain or two out of there in my time, although they do know what they're doing by and large and, I would imagine, more so since the advent of price guides. Mind you, there was that marvellous day in the mid 1990s, that I walked in there and pulled three copies of Ty Karim "Lighten Up" on Romark from the racked-out stock, for a total of $9.00 plus tax. If only that still happened every week,eh?
