  1. Walk along Whitworth St and turn right at Princess St, up over the canal and the club is about 50 yards on the right. 5- 7 mins. OR Walk down Portland street to the lights at Princess street turn left and Alter Ego is 50 yards on the left. [steve J]
  2. Yes, we were only there by virtue of age and/or knowledge, BUT thankfully the music does live on and moves on to NQ LIVE on Sunday 13th January 2013 ...
  3. Hi Soul-Slider, I haven't bought a record from the US for a long time until this week and it has just today been shipped to me. Does this mean that the postman will put a note through my door saying the record will have to be collected from the main office after vat etc of £6.80 + handling has been paid? [The disc was $45 with $7.50 shipping.and bought via GEMM]
  4. The lease holders of the Wheel premises have informed Pete Roberts that their lease expires on 31st December and after that date the club will close prior to being demolished. In fact, the Wheel closure would have happened irrespective of the planning application outcome. Here is the link:- https://www.placenorthwest.co.uk/news/archive/12054-motel-one-plans-approved.html
  5. "have just checked the flyer for this weekends twisted wheel event - nothing about the campaign just checked the event guide entry - nothing just checked the connected event web site - nothing" Thanks for bringing this to my attention - Have just updated.
  6. As for the "tourists" with their drink problem, they always get told to "GET OFF THE DANCE FLOOR" in no uncertain terms whenever it is brought to the attention of the DJ who is on at the time (especially Pete Roberts!) as I'm sure you will agree with...
  7. I have added this mail on behalf of Pete Roberts, promoter Twisted Wheel Club. (Reason: He is not a member on Soul-Source) Pete Roberts here. I was reluctant to come on to this site, but I feel I would like to reply back to Jumping Joan and others, about the BBC Interview on the threatened Twisted Wheel Club closure. Do you seriously think that I spent the best part of three hours being interviewed and that I wanted the TWO minutes to be condensed and part of that two minutes wasted on showing the tattoo on my leg, which by the way they were told by a third party about the tattoo, and not by me? The Interviewer promised me they wouldn't be broadcasting that part of the interview. I have no control over what the interview was edited down to, I also had NO control over that Frank Wilson Pop record "Do I Love You" (Indeed I Don't) being played either, which is Not a Wheel record, and will NEVER be played at the Wheel. Yes I can take your point and believe me, I did tell them how important the Club and the BUILDING is!! I also told them all about all the Black American Artists who appeared on that famous little stage at the Wheel. And for the people who think the Twisted Wheel Club is a Youth Club - Why for the last 12 years has my phone never stopped ringing, by some of the biggest named DJ's in the country asking me if they could do a guest DJ spot at the Twisted Wheel? Pete Roberts
  8. Latest update:- https://www.manchesterconfidential.co.uk/News/Twisted-Wheel-To-Be-Demolished-For-German-Motel
  9. Thank you all for your very kind comments on the "Twisted Wheel Club". I have read some of the suggestions that we should play Wigan/Torch records in the second room?? That in some respects would be an across the board music policy (what you can hear anywhere) which I don't want and neither do the 100's of others who regularly attend the Wheel!! When I reopened the Wheel, 9 Years ago I wanted to recreate a nostagic Twisted Wheel night playing only Twisted Wheel back catalogue (1963 - 1971) records in the original, 6 Whitworth Street, Basement Club!! With nearly 600 people in at the last "Sunday Afternoon Soul Session" I think I have been successful and have achieved that (the reason for the 2nd room is purely the numbers of visitors that now attend and who want to listen to authentic Twisted Wheel sounds). A BIG THANKS to you all, and I hope to see you on Friday 29th May at the Wheel. Thanks Again, Soulfully Yours, Pete Roberts. [Promoter - Twisted Wheel]
  10. Glad you enjoy the Sunday afternoon's, especially after all that travel. And it's good to see The Wheel getting mentions by you all on the Soulsource Website. Soulfully, John.
  11. Steve, Is there any chance you can email them to me also, if there aren't too many or too big file-size wise? (twistedwheel@tiscali.co.uk). I can then add some of them onto the February pics page on our website. FYI The guest DJ on Friday 27th is Nick Marshall from BBC Stoke, very knowledgable of the music and I'm sure he will do a great spot. He was there on Sunday, big guy with a suit, shirt and tie - you may have seen him. Thanks and see you Feb 27th, John.
  12. Spud, Just had a look at the video - really shows what it's like at the Sunday Sessions. It's even got Pete's dulcet tones after the tune. Thanks for letting me know about it. See you soon, John
  13. Spike, I will start taking some pics on Sunday's but will probably upload them to the website along with the following Friday's pics. Sunday's now seem to be even better attended than the Friday's (The one before Xmas had 400+ in with about 200 locked out! - honest. There were 4x52 seater coaches turned up from the Midlands!) It will be good to include some pics to show how well-attended the Sunday sessions are. Sadly, the photos can't recreate that atmosphere. I think it is the ease of travel and being able to get home at a reasonable time that have made them so popular. Hope to see you Twisted Villagers soon, John.
  14. Spike, Due to website constraints and not having any time to take pics [since it's so busy - over 320 in just after 4 o'clock!], I don't have any pics from the Sunday Soul Sessions. One of the visitors did take some photos but then left his camera in the cloakroom when leaving! If we can find his camera, I will get him to email them to me and forward them onto you. Glad you enjoyed the day. Soulfully, John Green.
