  1. Yes remember The Fountain very well..Always used to meet Chris there before he went off to the match and also was a place where where me and my best mate used to go to arrange our lift to Cleethorpes etc. Sharon
  2. Someone told us last night that there a soul cafe opened up on Queen street in Nottingham. Juke box in situ and playing soul 12 hours per day. Can't recall anymore of what was what else was said (Frightening really don't know if its age or what but I can have the most in depth conversation at a soul do and can't for the life of me remember the details of what was talked about the next day!) Anyway, anyone been or know any more about it? Planning on taking a trip down next Saturday so will feedback following that. Cheers Sharon
  3. ''i think her sqeeky voice has let her down in the past '' Totally agree with this bit..Her nasal sounding squalling has always left me cold: That along with her reported high and mighty attitude as never appealed to me. Can tell I'm not a fan?? Sharon
  4. Don't know about charting but I remember owning a copy ;early 70's after hearing it at my local soul 'do' and really listening closely to the words to try and figure it out!! Sharon
  5. I heard a radio show somewhere Lincs/Norfolk way that was playing some Northern tunes. A woman called in and said that she happened to have tuned in and heard Dena Barnes 'If you ever walked out of my life' said it was the first northern tune she had heard in years and it made her cry whilst listening and driving up the A1. Said it brought back fantastic memories of her youth and visits to the north of England. What tune does it for you then? for me Christine Cooper, Heartaches away and P. P. Arnold, Everythings Gonna Be Alright.
  6. Me too, could listen to it over and over, brings back great memories of my early northern days, have always loved it but have never owned an original, Chris
  7. Heartaches away...Absolutely top notch - one of mine and Chris' top sounds..(And not just because she shares our name)!!
  8. Could be, I would need to see a photo or some history about her. Is she still around??
  9. From the album: Bridgets snaps

Nige Brown in full flow!! (Can't think what date this was!)
  10. Anybody from the Nott'm area who used to go to the Brit on Trent Bridge happen to have any old photos of the place, especially around 1972-75 , Friday night soul night that is, not a load of blokes rowing boats and wearing boaters, If so any chance of posting them on SS. Chris
  11. Know this is a long shot, but many years ago at the Casino 73-74 I used to travel from Nott'm with like minded people to enjoy the nighters. Met a girl there from the Aintree area and got to know a bit about her. Is there anybody from around that area who visits SS and may know of folks still on the scene who were around then and can remember, Chris, Trev, Tim and Gary. No for the life of me I can't remember her name but I do know she was really small and lived within a stones throw of the track. Oh yeah she was a total pill head at the time, aspirins of course. Chris

  13. In April 2002 Chris and Barry started the soul night at Pilsley. The music emphasis at this time was Northern oldies (Chris' influence) and Classic Motown (Influenced by Barry) Both brothers having a life long love of soul music but experiencing different venues at different times: shaping their own particular taste. As time has gone on we have rarely seen a bad night at Pilsley, even when other venues have come along and their nights have 'clashed' with ours, the numbers have generally remained consistent. Barry would be able to give an accurate average figure on this but I reckon over the time span we have probably averaged about 120 people. Some nights seeing far more and of course some dropping below this slightly. The night now consists of Chris and Barry as residents, having top DJ's guesting for us and one of our regular guests commented that "PILSLEY IS A FANTASTIC LITTLE SOUL CLUB, WELL WORTH A VISIT", (NIge Brown:source N.SOUL magazine). Other guests have been PETE TAYLOR, STEVE BROWN, SAM MOORE, GLYN SISSONS, JOHN POOLE TONY WIGGANS, TONY CLARKE , JOHN MAY, MORT, KEITH MANLOVE, JACKO, ROB KAY, ROB SMITH , CRESSY, The Big Daddy MARK BICKNELL AND MANY OTHERS. This reflects the across the board music policy which now pervades the atmosphere of the night. WE ARE PROUD OF WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED AT PILSLEY and would like to say thank you to all who have regularly supported us through the good as well as the not so good times and also to those who tend to mix visits to our nights with one of the other many nights around and about on the third Saturday of the month. THE 5TH ANNIVERSARY IS GOING TO BE AN ABSOLUTELY AWESOME NIGHT, WE BELIEVE, WITH GUEST DJ'S MARK BICKNELL AND NIGE BROWN. MAKE SURE YOU ARRIVE EARLY BECAUSE THIS IS GOING TO BE ONE PACKED NIGHT!!

  23. Days Long Ago Should old acquaintances be forgotten And never be remembered? Should old acquaintances be forgotten and days long ago. Chorus: For days long ago, my dear, For days long ago We'll drink a cup of kindness yet For days long ago! And surely you'll have your pint tankard And surely I'll have mine. And we'll drink a cup of kindness yet For days long ago. Chorus We two have run about the hills And pulled the daisies fine But we've wandered many a weary mile Since the days long ago. Chorus We two have paddled in the stream From morning sun till dinner-time But the broad seas have roared between us Since the days long ago. Chorus And here's my hand, my trusty friend, And give me your hand too, And we will take an excellent good-will drink For the days of long ago. I LIKE THE SPIRIT OF AULD LAND SYNE BUT NEVER REALLY UNDERSTOOD WHAT IT WAS ABOUT. THIS ENGLISH TRANSLATION MAKES IT EVEN MORE POIGNANT. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL!!
