  1. Just as a matter of interest it was I (mr Bridget) who posted this thread, my intention was to provoke thought on 'Proper Soulies' as can be seen from my post. I have neither pointed the finger at music policies, clothes that people wear, or inffered any other thing with regard to promoters or which club does what or for what reason, I simply asked the question. It isn't a statement nor is it a question on the 1-1 basis. It is a question up for discussion hence the term question. if others derive different things or add different things to the debate that follows that is up to them, that is what debate is all about and debate stems from questions asked. it seems that a lot of people have something to say on the matter, therefore my question was valid. I would appreciate it if personal details, (names etc) were not included in the debate because it only serves to personalise it, which was not the intention unless of course it is on a freindly basis.
  2. Point out Dennis with all respect where it became one on one. I thought you may have known who Spinner is because you have taken an interest in wanting to know why his account was closed. There are some who are gullible and some who are not. I don't think the tone of the last post was 'nice'. Just trying to provoke comment. Lets not take things so personally a? Its not life and death this its just a night out!!
  3. Why oh why has this turned into a 'them and us' debate Dennis. You have singled yourself out and have pointed the finger at us for no reason as the original post was a general comment to get a debate going which it certainly has without any personalising intended. You and Spinner (who we now know as he has sent us an e mail telling us he will return onto this site in another guise) have sought to bring the topic down to personalities which was not the intention. If we lived in a world where only 'nice things were said' then what a sorry place it would be. You see in the real world some say nice things to peoples faces whilst slagging them off behind their backs very often. At least this can be a forum where we can voice our opinion despite it being an alternative opinion to others. The word 'debate' is about airing varying viewpoints because then the scene (and the world) can be a more coulourful place if we aren't all just 'yes' men to each others faces. We are all different and have different points of view.. Thank God for that!!

  5. There speaks the voice of the innocent!
  6. Once again Spinner, whoever you are, you have shown up to be a little short on constructive comment shall we say? Baz you reading this? what do you reckon??
  7. hear hear,
  8. thats it then, I'm off to get my baggies, glove and fully badged up bag and well placed towel, anybody know anybody who sells them or can i get one from ebay? I (mr Brigdet) posted this tongue in cheek but sean I owe you big time, i can now sleep easy knowing that when I hit the soul clubs next week I'll be in the groove and everybody will say, there goes a true soulie. Lets end it here folks.
  9. With great respect rednose and trying to prevent this thread being seen as a 1 on 1. Is it really `keeping the faith` ? The faith as in what? Being into northern soul? Surely thats what the majority are into so why try and be superior by inferring that if you do not attend or support a certain soul venue then you are not a 'soulie'?
  10. I really don`t think theres anything in my question thats 'going over old ground` Just was asking what a true definition would be. Also, Mike, quite of few of the sort in the east midlands.
  11. Couldn't agree more
  12. Don't know if it will get a response but occasionally you get flyers advertising a night for 'proper soulies' or 'soulies only' . These seem to revolve around the events where those who consider themselves 'True northern fans' gather. So can somebody tell me what a Real Soulie' , Proper Soulie or 'for soulies only' is, I'm intrigued?????? cause I'm begining to think that since 1971 I thought I was a 'proper soulie' but maybe i was wrong
  13. Sorry meant to put William Bell Easy Comin Out, on Mercury

  17. they do around here, and some do it deliberately, if you don't wear the baggies, carry a holdall, and listen to the same 50 tunes everyweek. and they will even tell others to go to their venue because "we play better music than they do".. trust me it happens.
  18. Agree with your point of view.. I really do think that numbers IN GENERAL have started to decline: this I think has something to do with the boredom factor in some more than the ability to listen to sounds in different formats. When travelling there is also the risk factor in that even if the event plays the advertised music policy then there may only be a few in leading to a poor atmosphere. Anyway, good to see different point of view.
  19. 200 miles, man where abouts in the country would that be, want us to come over and say hello
  20. went out last night to a club that normally pulls in a good crowd although occasionally, like last night they are down on numbers, thought about it a while then noticed the amount of flyers on the tables. brought them all home and after adding soul nights that we know of that hadn't got flyers at the venue we figured that within 30 miles east, north and south of us there are something like 30 soul nights each month. THIRTY SOUL NIGHTS, no wonder the numbers are down, just wondered what you thought about that???????????????????????
  21. Yes it is but well worth another watch!
  22. Sharon Cooper posted a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
started my soul life in 1969-1970 , by going to local clubs in Beeston Nottm and then onto the Brit Club on the banks of the trent. visited VaVas, The Torch etc whenever we could afford it, we often hitch hicked, (me and my mate trev) , Went to Leeds , but can't remember the name of the club, was downstairs as I recall, was a regular at Selecta Disc where i bought my first pressing and was told they were originals,, some things never change, got into it when my older brother Barry started bringing these records home and playing them on his new Dansette record player. He went to the allnighters at the Dungeon in Nott'm. First record was Jackie Wilson Higher & Higher from Barry for 10p.
  23. What like you me and everyone else on here?? The difference being I don't know what the next post is going to say.. do you? (or are you telepathic or psychic or something else??)
