  1. *Who`s Black Lace..You don`t mean Nottinghams own Paper Lace do you? Must say that tune is a long time favourite of us two. Theres been one or two floor clearers at our place but sometimes Chris` floor clearers will, given time and enough plays, get them up and grooving! Now Barrys a different matter....ooops!!
  2. Was his name Phil?? Unfortunately I heard he's no longer with us. RIP
  3. Remember it! when my mum and dad split up me and my mum (and the brothers who were left at home) lived down Portland Road opposite Jeffs just off Alfreton Road. It was where I used to meet up with my mates when we were going out ; " See you outside Jeffs"!! They definately had a shop upstairs in Broad Marsh as well. In fact the boyfriend before Christopher came along used to work there, so many a happy hour was spent hanging about on the benches outside that shop. What a full life I`ve led!!
  4. Huckleberry site was where I've seen them. Anywhere else sells them I wonder? I think it might be where you lived that dictated the style and shops frequented. These were the days before the internet so clothes tended to be bought locally. Trying to think of others we went to. There wasn't a great many because we tended to go to the places that we knew would sell the styles that we liked (and also cost a lot more than Chelsea Girl and places like that!) I can't believe it when i hear Chris go on at our middle lad for paying the money he does for D Squared, Diesel, Armani etc. When we were just as bad. Actually the shop he works in part time is very similar to the shops we bought from...Designer labels, different styles etc. So times don't change that much really! Just remembered! Chris bought a shirt from Paul Smiths shop which was up the alley off Bridlesmith Gate (Same side as the Fountain, but along a bit) circa 74 when I'm sure Paul still worked upstairs cutting out and making up the clothes. It was a dead little shop but sold some excellent stuff (The lads moved on a bit since those days )
  5. Thats why Chris and mates had `em (apart from looking dead smart). I reckon we ought to get a stall set up at the soul do's and flog some! I've seen a web site where you can get them. Only £65; Can you imagine what you could buy for that money in 74/75!
  6. Nothing could beat the sheer stylishness (!) of a pair of Solatio`s on the guys circa early - mid 70`s. They were the shoe of choice (in the crowd I knew) around this time and still around today, so have lasted the test of time. Personally (as a soul girlie ) from the early- mid 70`s I wore any decent, hard wearing, stylish leather souled shoe. Birdcage on Bridlesmith gate, Nottm was the shop of choice. All a bit pricey, but not the usual, run of the mill stuff. Some of us didn`t want to wear the long , multi yard skirts but even within the under ground nature of the scene still wanted to be seen as slightly different! Oh, to have that money and freedom now to spend on brilliant clothes!!
  7. Now what would be real news for my owd fella would be the re opening of a shop called Image just off Bridlesmith Gate Nottm with a sale on Solatio shoes!
  8. Haven't read all the comments on this but in my opinion the best djs are those that dance, obviously there are those who can't dance, and those who wont dance for whatever reason and some we don't want to see dance. It seems to me that those that do dance have a sense of getting the feel of a night rather than just banging tunes on. Some djs need to keep their heads out of their boxes while they are djing and spend more time watching whats happening on the floor. After 35 years on the scene (of and on) I still want to get on the dance floor and see a dance floor full, after all what sort of a soul night is it when everbodys either standing around twiddling their thumbs or watching which record is coming on next.
  9. I have always wondered about these acts that get dragged out for weekenders and the like. How do we know its the real people at all (Those that are still alive that is) and not just some tribute act? I wouldn't know what Dean Parrish, the Drifters, the 4 tops and all the others that have been on round and about look like now...Could just be some big con as far as I`m concerned, but then I`ve never liked live `northern` acts (or dead ones come to think about it!)
  10. We`re getting them..Whats it all about??
  11. wanted 1 copy of Eula Cooper, Let your love grow higher, pressing will do, just for the memories.
  12. Now I always thought it was; "But I was smart, I got rid of him quick"!!
  13. People who add events to their personal details on this site when they don`t even go there! Whats that all about?? I thought it was meant as having some sort of affiliation to a place?
