  1. It's Ebay who had 20% automatically isn't it ? Not the seller although Julian's earlier post does contradict that.
  2. I thought "Silverfox" selection was pretty good. I hardly buy anything from UK dealers but bought a couple off him recently and money permitting made a note of a few more I want.
  3. As we're comparing to eBay in what way is Parker's site excellent ? I just checked my recent buys off eBay of common 45s. Tymes WINCHESTER $9.99 Bobby Mac Keep on $5 Astors Candy $5.99 2 x J. Wilson Haunted House $5.98 On Parker list those 4 x 45s come to $110 ! Mine $26.97. And my Tymes and Bobby Mac were both demos not issues and all 4 were M-. Stick to eBay.
  4. Early days yet. I think most people get eBay is adding on 20 % but are not quite sure whether there will then be extra charges from customs and the PO when packages arrive in the UK.
  5. Won it. No VAT. Won it. No VAT
  6. Yes I think I'll avoid until actually sent from mate to me. There is a slight downside to my arrangement in that I pay state taxes.
  7. No, a mate. Cheaper postage having US buys collected together and sent in bulk [40+ albums say] than paying USA to UK postage on each individual item.
  8. I think it's more to do with me having a US address for my US buys. Not sure on that but next time I win something I'll see if I'm charged VAT. As it's not going to UK I assume I will not ?
  9. Looking at my UK eBay Summary/Watch list I can see one item that states 20% VAT will be added. That's a currently £13.48 [$18.30] album listed on US eBay. If I link to my Summary via US eBay it doesn't show that.
  10. Those lines from Fi-dels have always stuck in my head, but then I'm married. If you want poignant then you need to look at country music. The human condition laid bare in such classics as "How Can I Miss You If You Won't Go Away" and "My Wife Ran Off With My Best Friend and I Sure Do Miss Him".

  12. I know. HNY to you both
  13. I think you've misinterpreted my previous comments. I am right behind you in your collecting endeavours where you seem to have managed to accrue the right artists on the wrong formats or the wrong artists on the right formats. And I couldn't agree with you more that the only way to own this particular 45 is a 1966 demo copy but unfortunately for you that is of course on Ric-Tic 113.
  14. Depends which side the issue sticker is on. Whichever, you can bet Julian got the less desirable copy, allegedly.
  15. A lot rarer on the regular issue with the "NOT FOR SALE" sticker as most serious collectors know.
  16. I'd imagine it's momentarily annoying when you notice the exact record you lost appearing elsewhere for more than the winning bid but I don't think it's anything new. And that's not only confined to big ticket items. As Halogen said price guides really f**ked it. Most collectors I know don't resent the prices asked. They'll buy something else or wait till item comes up at a reasonable price.
  17. I had a listen to that Tucker 45. Handbag beat with one of the worst vocals I've ever heard.
  18. Are we talking about Rare Northern Soul site ? Isn't Allen around £600 usually ? To be honest I don't see any big deal about this. I'd assumed anyway that dealers got involved when rarities came up for auction. No different to us casual buyers and sellers who pick up stuff to re-sell off eBay. I guess their own sales experience will tell them if eventually they'll turn a profit.
  19. You had to go and mention the rarer issue. I imagine Julian is now a gibbering wreck curled up in a corner wondering where he's been going wrong all these years.
  20. I had a lot of originals back in late 90's. Dave Withers tracked down Massingille by looking in Detroit phone book. Think it might have been a relative rather than actual writer.
