Golden World: Locals & Outsiders Involved
Blackpoolsoul replied to Roburt's topic in All About the SOUL
Kenny never mentioned "cutting" tunes in Detroit in an interview in February this year. "You’re universally regarded as one of the architects of the Philly Sound. How did that coalesce? Motown was the inspiration for Huff and me; we give credit to Motown for being able to assemble a great group of people who worked together. Berry Gordy, who was a successful songwriter-producer in his own right, created opportunities for some of the world’s greatest songwriters and producers, not to mention the superstar artists on his label. On my first airplane ride, Huff and I went to Detroit to explore working with Motown. It was impressive, and I still have the greatest admiration for Berry Gordy. But at the end of the day, Huff and I decided to return to Philly and set up our own record company." Perhaps they returned ? -

Neli Ruston spoke to Robert and I found this (which may give a clue as to an approx date) "Luther Ingram would of course become an icon on the Northern soul club circuit with yet another Wylie penned song that would reach classic status, Luther Ingram — “If It’s All The Same To You Babe b/w Exus Trek” — HIB 698 which saw both the vocal and the instrumental sides grace the turntables. Penned by Popcorn and recorded at Golden World Studios in a moonlighting session by The Funk Brothers, Neil Rushton, after a conversation with Robert Bateman says he (Bateman), took the tapes to Mercury studios in New York and overdubbed strings to create the 'orchestra' feel. Bateman says he sold about 5,000 copies, before achieving a distribution deal from Jerry Wexler at Atlantic Records. He was trying to capture a similar sound to The Four Tops and in doing so, produced a stone classic of the Northern Soul scene with a record that still fills dance-floors even today." -
There was a thread here (which came to a stop just as it was getting interesting)

I would expect more than just the OM 419 if it is Bestway

1962, Barney Ales hired Irv Biegel and Phil Jones. Biegal was assigned him to singles sales and promotion with Jones doing the same with albums. -

Now I know why he sang in the Ankara "Mob" joint in Pittsburg. He even admits himself to the "Mob Boss" connection in his book -

I think most thought that Maltese was a sub of Golden World but this article from Record World on 4th December 1965 seems to suggest that although Irvin worked as General Manager they were only associated by his connection -

I found this article https://vancouversignaturesounds.com/hits/and-the-heavens-cried-by-ronnie-savoy/ It quotes the following ? "Meanwhile, Savoy’s brother Bob Hamilton was inspired to create a record label in Detroit that could rival Motown. Hamilton created Golden World Records and the label Wingate." -

From the Biddeford-Saco (York County) region of Souther Maine, Dickie Waite led this mid-sixties rock and roll band that was a true fan-favorite of the Greater Portland/Southern Maine region. Dickie & The Ebb Tides released two 45-RPM singles on Golden World Records; in October of 1966, they released I've Got A Shadow/One Girl, One Boy with One Girl, One Boy receiving moderate air-play in the Greater Portland market. That single was followed by I Don't Want Your Love/It's Better Than Making Believe with It's Better Than Making Believe also receiving some air-play from Southern Maine's pop radio stations: 1310-WLOB & 1440-WJAB of Portland and 1400-WIDE from Biddeford/Saco. The band played all the local dance halls and venues, including The Palace Ballroom (Old Orchard Beach), St. John's Hall (Portland), The Expo (Portland), City Hall (Portland), and Clifford Park (Biddeford). The band opened for The Turtles and The Barbarians (featuring "Moulty" the drummer), both in OOB, as well as The Dave Clark Five and The McCoys, both at City Hall in Portland. The band broke up due to the Vietnam War draft. https://nighttrain04011.tripod.com/id62.html -

Just heard the sad news that Pat Lewis has passed RIHP lovely lady https://soultracks.com/news-motown-singer-pat-lewis-dies/ -
Happened to me 13 years ago with an MVP's UK Demo and ever since then I have taken photos like you. I am no doubt that you are being scammed on a return policy scam.

They did write it, Sonny was the arranger on the record (perhaps with Gene). It's not mentioned on the CD notes. -

In 1966 Carl Davis moved over to Brunswick and Sanders went with him. Their first major project was re-vitalising the career of Jackie Wilson with the timeless ‘Whispers’. Sanders worked with Wilson on numerous other tracks and ironically the musicians he used for the cuts were his old Detroit associates, The Funk Brothers who were moonlighting anonymously from the Gordy snakepit. Sanders went on to work with the major Brunswick artists … people like Gene Chandler, Tyrone Davis, Barbara Acklin, the Chi-Lites, the Artistics and Walter Jackson. Sanders also wrote prolifically. Amongst his best known tunes are ‘Soulful Strut’/’Am I The Same Girl’ and ‘With This Ring’ which became a hit for the Platters. Sonny Sanders later worked with Chubby and the Turnpikes (who, of course, became Tavares) and Manchild (Babyface’s first band). -

I "think" it was the other way round and then In 1965 Sonny was taken to Chicago by Carl Davis where he worked for Okeh and Brunswick. -

Fantastic stuff and what I have been told and read recently is that apparently Berry Gordy, either himself, or someone from the offices, spent time contacting radio stations and "asking" them not to play Golden World records in his attempt to either destroy their output or buy the company. So many backing tracks were then used by him when he bought the masters either on Motown records (often by The Debonaires and / or The Holidays) some of which were even "transferred" over to Philly and used for LP releases such as Teddy, Spinners etc and never even credited correctly. I am sure there is more to come and will attempt to find out more to add to this wonderful article -
