modern soul check out i think its issue 13 voices from the shadows 20 years ago the whole debate issued i think the more accurate term "modern" northern soul seems to spring to mind a description from Tim Brown to describe some of the records epic was buying as new in 1975 or 70ss records being broken at the time by top djs at the time eg curtis/levine I think we should be talking more about contemporary soul covering all tempos stylesif were talking modern if we need to at all as Rick says its all music so why categorise ill get my manship prayer book now and leave

i tagged along with epic and soulfuldancer last night 800 in at the tower looks fantastic when its that busy it was a nostalgia night for many who probably hadnt been out for some time i thought it went really well perhaps next time they need to test out the sound but the muusic that was played was well received and just a good time party atmosphere i loved waynes set and copacabana perhaps next time hes up at blackpool theyll dig out the down with hemingway placards!!!! my mate duffs remembers hearing it at the mecca and walked out when it was played and hes into his 70ss disco!!!! great night well organised shame for those persons mentioned who not to get involved but at the end of the day 800 people turned up to dance to their music and thats what counts i couldnt imagine for one minute epic would be into dillinger and heavy funk

hi there get the "doin it" lp on casablanca 1979 its on there nice and cheap plenty of copies about uk seven is on there for the collectors/anoraks nowhere near as good as the gloria scott tune from 74 but a nice record all the same and i can see the comparison there are far better 70ss records that would merit an auction item the fact this one is a uk 45 only should see it get a good price though get merry clayton one more ride just as good in my humble opinion

the best thing ive ever heard him play was ronnie barnes youve got my heart i think the other side is a belter too but rarely hear that it was a poorly attended gig at palm court southport early 1990 i think got there in the back of kev edwards van with barrie may and one or two other reprobates ellipses people recently was a cracker played out at the orwell last couple of years

if anyone has a mint copy let me know seanoconnor@morecambefc.com barry maleady played this one out on the sunday soul selection special we did last january for shaun robbins wonderful track a lowton DDA spin i think Barry was saying great track chaps £30 seems way too small a price for quality but ill take one at that price

wonderful stuff and well presented nby martin who showed he had a real passion for the music would love to see th efunk brothers again and agreed docu could hav ebeen longer but were all being selfish there to have 30 mins was a great bonus and one of the best bits of tv this xmas for me would be great to see martin play some tunes out!!!!
