  1. Do they still play Mel Britt at Northern Soul nights, Steve? FFS, no wonder everyones getting lathered up! I thought it was a played out record 30 odd years ago. I don't think I've been anywhere where I'm likely to have heard that particular track since the 70's. Lovely tune, but I'm with you all the way... if some Northern Soul 'DJ's' really are playing the likes of Mel Britt pressings, as opposed to the tens of thousands of alternative originals available then its a sorry (nay laughable) state of affairs! On the other hand, if some guy or gal wants to play it at their local working mens club, then who the fook am I to complain? I'm a real SOUL Music snob (I look down on everyone ) but such a lack of imagination is more likely to arouse my sympathy than condemnation. Just let the kiddies play. Keeps 'em off the street and its not really hurting anyone who's a serious Soul fan if Biffo (or whoever) is playing the type of stuff we left behind decades ago, is it? After all, if that's the level of creativity some DJ's display... then I just wouldn't go along to support the gig. Lifes far too short to live it in some kind of musical Groundhog day! On this very subject, my late friend, a very wise man, once said to me "the ones that mind don't matter... and the ones that matter don't mind!" That was the real Gospel according to Dave Godin. Translated by this lesser mortal... those who believe they know better... ...should just get on with it! Sean
  2. No, I like it Steve. Not a lot... but I just have to own every Soul record ever pressed (if only for one night) or I get the jitters! Sean
  3. OK Brett, I'm amending my first theory. On closer examination, I'll wager that the one that we're all familiar with (as posted by Val) is the second press.... and that the one on the bay is the first press. On the bay copy, the record title and artist are in the same condensed font, which is consistent throughout the label. On the scanned copy, the record title is in a different, more rounded, font, inconsistent with the rest of the label. The word STEREO is also set in a bolder font... different again! My amended theory also explains why they dropped the word 'Presents' on the second press - The record had already been 'presented' first time around. Am I being pedantic? It gets worse.... The Leading (space between the lines) on the Production credits is all over the place on the bay copy - fairly typical of traditional Letterpress printing, whereas on the scan its as crisp as if it had been Macced up only yesterday (artworked on an apple Mac). Not saying it was... but Macs have been around since the late 80's and I feel the 'Dollar' copy is certainly not as authentic (early/mid 70's) 'looking' as the one on the bay. So, IMO, the later press is the one Without the word 'Presents' but With the additional 'Dollar' symbol. And the one on the bay, almost certainly not a Boot, Brett. Think I'll have a crack at it! Sean
  4. I don't believe it is. Are you confusing the track with "I've Gotta Find Her"? Sean
  5. Murphys not good enough Brett? Happy St Patricks Day Think I'll join ya! Sean
  6. $ sign inserted as an 's' in the more common one! creating a spelling mistake, that looks to have been 'corrected' on this one. Sean
  7. Hate it when that happens. I have a copy - but only sell spares as a rule. Thanks for the reply though, and good luck. Sean
  8. As a matter of interest, what is the current 'Book price' for UK Piccadily? Sean
  9. Thank you Marc. Very nice it is too. I was just wondering if it referred to the one on CRS, which is listed as George Johnson. That's an extremely rare record. Thanks Sean
  10. Which George Jackson, Mik, out of interest? Sean
  11. https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2f8cf_ge...-i-run-to_music Nice! Sean
  12. Got a lovely Lebanese Tamla Motown issue of Tammi Terrell "This Old Heart Of Mine"... somewhere! Another one that didn't make a release here... wonder how many copies it sold over there? Sean
  13. https://www.rock.co.za/legends/60s/staccatos_index.htm Picture covers too! Sean
  14. Got a load of nice Oz Tamla Motown 45's too. Some were not released over here and always raise an eyebrow on the decks! Sean
  15. The technology is beyond me, Brett. Just close your eyes and imagine a UK label that says "Made In India"... ... that's how they look! Sean
  16. Yes Brett. Got loads of Irish Motown release 45's. Even have an Al Wilson "Show And Tell" on Irish Polydor! Sean
  17. That's correct. I have some. Stateside too. Sean
  18. Think that'll be NEMS mate. No Pete, never seen that b4. Is the flipside a cover of the Joe Tex "Hold on to what you've got" ? Sean
  19. As GREAT as it is, the Hesitations is unissued as a 45. Its the original recording of the Moments early 70's hit and is only available on a Kent CD. Sean
  20. That's right John, it was Mansfield. Remember giving 'Somehow' by Cliff Dawson a spin or two at the time. Sean
  21. That stands to reason Martin. He was living in Retford at the time and did loads of local clubs, around these parts, back then. Those that had them originally (pre eBay) got them from his local gigs. Stone rarity mate. Only 4 known copies.
  22. You might have done John, but I don't recall. Had it for years. Have you got the picture cover and are the labels reversed on yours? Sean
  23. So.... what we have here is a 'Three known copy' - modern day Frank Wilson!
  24. Sorry Tolbert, only just seen this. Garry is correct, released in Sept 1992. A copy on sale here! https://cgi.ebay.com/Greatest-Performances-...p3286.m20.l1116 Sean
