  1. And its not in the same league as 'Band Of Gold'. Really interesting thread this. Amazing what some folk just don't 'get'. Rather than a 'slag off' its more about how a record fits with your own expectations - and how you see others waxing lyrical about a tune, but just can't see it yourself. Brilliant Mr Rounce. Sean
  2. Rod broke some great records Steve. This wasn't one of em! Its a dismal, out of tune, Poo Fest! Sean
  3. Think you need to listen again, Steve. Its a massively overrated, pile of poo. I never 'got' what all the fuss and hype was about when it was played, first time out, down at Yarmouth. And I'm sure I never will. There are thousands of better tracks on four quid albums. Yet this tragic example of rarity over quality gets the exposure and exaltation. One of the vocalists is good! The other is piss poor and flat as a Fart. I would have pulled the flat fecker out of the studio and let the guy with the tonsils do it solo! But even then, the song is just as pappy and pissy as they come. It's Loves Stormy Ballocks mate! ...IMO Hope you're both well. Sean
  4. Love it! Sean
  5. Hi Kev, Lee Jones was back in Texas - driving his truck as you'd heard! Think there's a bit more to him 'having to truck' than meets the eye though. Got to say, his loss was made up for by the INCREDIBLE Sam Hutchins. The three of em were great - but Sam... oh lordy, lordy! The guy was out of this world... like watching (and hearing) the Womack on Steroids! (His AGP 45's are well worth picking up by the way if you don't have them). I've got a tiny bit of footage, shot off my mobile, that I've tried to upload to no avail - if I can I'll email it to ya! Cheers matey, Sean
  6. Didn't know it had been Reissued, Tony. I have "Night After Night" (coupled with "When Did You Start") and "Do It Right Now" (coupled with Who's Been Warmin My Oven) on seperate 45's. You're right about DIRN. A Fabulous version. Sean
  7. Nice post, harpo1. I know nearly everything... and i still know fook all! Sean
  8. If you're talking Masq's Kev... and I don't disagree with your choice in "Average Guy" (the flip of my old Mel Britt cover up from 30++ years ago would you believe)... the other side of "How Big Is Big" on Bell "Please Take Me Back"is a perfect 'Emotionally Charged" slab of Soul Music to be reckoned with. Saw them perform in Memphis last year and they did a private acapella rendition for us! Sean
  9. Type is all over the place and a contemporary font. Proper copy looks like the one below. Buyer beware! Sean
  10. Great info. I never knew that Pauline Shivers was one half of Birdlegs & Pauline! Sean
  11. All of the above! Sean
  12. So called 'Modern Holy Grails' I just don't get... Tyrone St German "In a World So Cold" - Always leaves me cold. Fluorescent Smog "All My Life" - Never want to hear it again in my entire life. Melvin Brown etc. "Loves Stormy Weather" - Bring your umbrella - it's fookin dismal! True Image "I'm Not Over You Yet" - FFS get over it! And a particular Northern Ear Bleeder! Shawn Robinson "My Dear Heart" - Should have packed up years ago! What a bloody row! To the skip with 'em! Sean
  13. Fabulous description of Otis and OV's style, Gareth. I guess you must have been there, at the Town & Country Club when Otis came on singing his tribute to O.V. 'Nickel And a Nail'. One of the most INCREDIBLE performances I've ever witnessed. Goosebumps just thinking about it. Often wonder if anyone ever caught it on video? Bestest, Sean
  14. Agree on Otis Clay, Simon & Brett.. for me though the killer 'emotionally charged' track from the mighty OC has to be "That's How It Is" (The OneDerFul original - not so much the later Hi recording) Off the top of me head, I'd also nominate:- Jackie Wilson's incredible waxing of Sam Dees "Just As Soon As The Feeling Is Over" Dramatics "I Can't Get Over You" where LJ tears it up! Jean Plum "Back To You" - listen and weep! Bobby McClure "I'm Not Ashamed" Mille Jackson "Tired Of Hiding" Marvin Gaye "It's Madness" Irma Thomas "It's Starting To Get To Me" Barbara Lynn "Until Then I'll Suffer" David Ruffin "Statue Of A Fool" . Dramatics "And I Panicked" .........mindblowing emotion! Debbie Taylor "Touching You" - overshadowed in conversation by her Arista side, but this one is up there with it! Johnnie Taylor "I Can Read Between The Lines" devastating! ...... and in the simmering emotion stakes... Lee Moses "I Can't Take No More Chances" and ...Bobby McClure "To Get What You Got" take the prize for me! Sean
  15. Yes, June 09... my album of the year thus far, the real KILLER track for me being "The Only One Loving You". Absolutely STUNNING! Sean
  16. I have an unreleased Jean Carn version - I played at Yarmouth a couple of years ago. Went down an absolute storm, but I filed it afterwards as I don't think any of 'em top Barbara. Sean
  17. Yes, Gareth, I've seen a Brown / Red issue too. Could have been Pats. On the "Wonderful" side.... clearly never gonna be a Northern MONSTER but certainly worth a spin or two - especially when you consider a lot of what does get played . Its a bit of a bonus track on the back of the marvellous 'Rainbow Road' 45... I think we'd all agree. Sean
  18. Keb spin. Love the Male when it kicks in. There was a copy for sale on here last year for about £35 that I wish I'd nabbed. Keep missing em when it comes up - so if anyones got a spare..... please! Sean
  19. Agreed David, And (thanks to you) I now have a white Tower copy up for grabs! Sean
  20. Sean Hampsey replied to a post in a topic in Record Sales
Agreed Val & Steve. Came out on Pink MCA and Green MCA. Superb midtempo 70's. Sean
  21. The LYNDELL 45 was their second or third release, by all accounts. Their first recording was "Stop Hurting Me" on FINE in 1965. Seems to also be a rare one. Sean
  22. A stack of Tower 45's came out on Sparton in Canada, including Jerry Naylor "City Lights". Very nice indeed. Sean (PS: sell it to me! )
  23. That's right Ken, there was a UK 'Capitols' group, so "Cool Jerk" had to come out under their previous name the 'Three Caps' (they were originally four members and known as 'The Caps'). Sean
  24. Carrie Lucas Ebony Alleyne Howlin' Wilf Marcia Ball Sylvia Richards Trade Martin All did versions of this great song... but nothing compares to Barbara! Sean
