"Philly Soul" was inscribed on my brand spanking new UK CBS copy of the O'Jays "Time To Get Down". It was the first indication that Philly International was coming to the UK. I can still recall how I got all giddy at the prospect. Looking back, I must have been one sad Fecker... ...except that such stuff still excites the fool out of me! Sean

Think you need to listen again, Steve. Its a massively overrated, pile of poo. I never 'got' what all the fuss and hype was about when it was played, first time out, down at Yarmouth. And I'm sure I never will. There are thousands of better tracks on four quid albums. Yet this tragic example of rarity over quality gets the exposure and exaltation. One of the vocalists is good! The other is piss poor and flat as a Fart. I would have pulled the flat fecker out of the studio and let the guy with the tonsils do it solo! But even then, the song is just as pappy and pissy as they come. It's Loves Stormy Ballocks mate! ...IMO Hope you're both well. Sean

Hi Kev, Lee Jones was back in Texas - driving his truck as you'd heard! Think there's a bit more to him 'having to truck' than meets the eye though. Got to say, his loss was made up for by the INCREDIBLE Sam Hutchins. The three of em were great - but Sam... oh lordy, lordy! The guy was out of this world... like watching (and hearing) the Womack on Steroids! (His AGP 45's are well worth picking up by the way if you don't have them). If you're talking Masq's Kev... and I don't disagree with your choice in "Average Guy" (the flip of my old Mel Britt cover up from 30++ years ago would you believe)... the other side of "How Big Is Big" on Bell "Please Take Me Back"is a perfect 'Emotionally Charged" slab of Soul Music to be reckoned with. Saw them perform in Memphis last year and they did a private acapella rendition for us! Sean
